Chapter 67
Poppy's POV
The day had been going well so far. The first and second interviews had gone really well and we were on schedule as we travelled to the third and final destination - the one that they were performing at. Michael has been just as quiet as he had been all day, it was awful to see. He switched it off when they were interviewing and acted like normal but when he was away from the cameras and just with us, he was pretty silent as he stared down at his feet.
"We'll be there in two minutes." Diego announced as he took a left turn. The whole vehicle remained silent until he stopped at the venue and as always, we jumped out quickly and rushed into the building, leaving the fans behind us without a second glance. We were escorted by Diego straight to the dressing rooms again where the boys were shut away whilst Diego and I checked the venue out. Diego went one way as I went another, looking for the first aid room and supplies. I sighed as he left without uttering a word as I began my journey around, looking for any signs that told me where anything was.
"Lost?" A voice caught me off guard and I spun round quickly, tensing my fists as I sucked in a sharp breath. Stood before me, arm in a sling, was Jack with a grin on his face.
"Jack?!" I let out a surprised laugh as I rushed to him, hugging him gently. "How are you? It's so good to see you!" I let go of him and took a step back, admiring how he looked after what he had gone through.
"It's great to see you, I never really got to say thank you for everything you did that day!" He let out a huge smile. "Turns our you were right, they took me straight to surgery and sorted out the bone splinter that was stopping the movement." He shook his head in disbelief. "Those paramedics did nothing but praise you."
"Ah they're lovely people. I'm just glad you're okay. We were all so worried about you." I was still smiling hugely as I spoke to him, glad that everything was okay with him and the old team could be back together again. "The guys would love to see you!" I quickly said as I showed him the way to their room, getting back to my duties before Diego saw.

The fans had piled in, the place was packed and their screams were more than deafening. It was still taking me a long time to get used to, but just knowing my boyfriend was making people this happy was so heartwarming. The boys were backstage and hyping themselves up, all but Michael, who stood there staring at his guitar still in silence. I caught Calum's eye and shifted my gaze to Mike, Calum's following instantly. He walked over to Mike and patted him on the shoulder offering him some comforting words that seemed to bring a small smile to his face.
"Here they are for you all, 5 Seconds of Summer!"
The boys ran out, jumping up and down, energy becoming them as the screams and cheers erupted and practically lifted the roof. I grinned from the wings as I watched them begin their set, jumping up and down as they played 'She Looks So Perfect'. All the fans sang along as they jumped around with the band, echoing every word perfectly. It was so easy to get caught up in the moment.
"Thanks everyone! Can I just remind you all to stay safe, please don't push each other, the people at the front are starting to get squashed!" Michael spoke out after the first song, then they began playing the second song. The second and third songs flew by but as the fourth one was half way through, Ashton stopped drumming to signal me to come on stage. He looked really worried so I didn't even hesitate as I snuck around the back of the stage until I was next to him. He pulled his earplug out.
"Poppy, a fan in the front row just passed out!" He pointed down to a girl who was slumped over the barricade. I nodded before running past the other boys and jumping off the stage, landing close to her. I felt for her pulse which was fine, so I grabbed her and pulled her over the barricade to the small gap between that and the stage.
"Can you hear me?" I shouted next to her ear as I tried to bring her round. I signalled a crew member for a bottle of water and put the cold bottle against her head, trying to cool her down. I yanked my vest that Diego insisted I wore that said 'crew' off and doused it in water, putting that on her head. "Can you hear me? What's your name?" The girl began to stir as she drowsily opened her eyes. I let out a smile as her eyes locked with mine. The crew member ran over and between the two of us we picked her up and took her out of the arena, into the food hall.
"Is she okay?" The crew member, Nico by his badge, asked me.
"I think so. I think she just got a bit hot and claustrophobic. Keep her in the cool for a bit and give her a seat." I spoke to him professionally before I looked down at the girl. "Hey, are you okay?" She offered me a small smile.
"Yes thank you. I just remember feeling really hot and that's it..." she looked down at the floor. "I missed most of the show, didn't I?" I let out a small laugh.
"Hey, don't worry. We'll sort that out for you. What was your name?" I smiled sweetly as I handed her over the bottled water.
"Tamarah Davis." She said quickly taking a long gulp of water afterwards.
"I suggest you get someone to take you home now and get some rest. Don't worry about the show..." she nodded at me before I said my goodbyes and headed back inside just as the show was finishing. The band thanked everyone and headed backstage, which meant I just needed to pack up and we'd all be heading back. My phone buzzed in my pocket.
Cal x: meet us at the van in two mins. Great work out there ❤️
I smiled sweetly as I packed up and decided to head out of the closest exit, which was the front one. I began to walk round to the back where the van was when a voice called after me. I turned round to see someone I didn't recognise jogging towards me. I slowed down but kept walking, weary of my surroundings.
"You dropped this!" He called, causing me to stop and turn to him, his outstretched arm holding a wallet that wasn't mine. I offered a smile.
"Thanks but that definitely isn't mine." I said kindly but as I went to turn away, he grabbed me and pulled me back.
"No, but this is..." He pulled a retractable blade from his pocket and opened it up. "Kyle wanted me to give this to you." The mere mention of his name caused me to take a few steps back as I lost the ability to speak or think. I just stared at this guy with my mouth agape. He edged closer to me, the blade held out in front of him. "He's not happy with you and the sentence you got him. He won't be out for a long time but he wanted me to leave you something to remember him by..." Footsteps echoed the empty area and we both froze, waiting to see who it was.
"Are you nearly done yet Poppy? We're all waiting in the-" Calum came round the corner and stopped suddenly, his eyes falling to the blade before back to me. "Poppy?"
"Cal, just get out of here while you can. Please." I begged him, my body now shaking in fear that Calum could be hurt in this. I thought my past had been erased from the present but it seemed it never would.
"Aw has your little boyfriend come to save the day?" This man taunted as he waved the blade between the two of us. "How sweet." I shook my head.
"No. Please leave him out of this. It has nothing to do with him." My eyes were welling up with tears despite me trying to stop them. The lump in my throat was growing larger with every breath. I turned to Calum. "Just go. Please. I love you." He stood silently but shook his head.
"No I'm not leaving you with this guy!" Calum argued but I merely glared back at him.
"Go." I said sternly this time, my eyes pleading with him to listen to me. He looked down at the floor before looking back up, he mouthed 'I love you' before he took a step back.
"Fine. Be careful." He said as he turned on his heels, making his getaway as he shouted loudly for help and Diego, Jack and security. The man in front of me turned to chase after him.
"He's gonna regret that..." he snarled as he took off after Calum. Panic set in as I imagined him getting Calum so I ran after him, calling him to try and grab his attention. Soon, the van was in sight and my worst fears would have been answered if I didn't do something and do it now. I shoved the guy into the front of the van and he landed with a loud clatter, alerting everyone to where we were. I grabbed his head and smashed it down onto the bonnet, hoping it would at least daze him, but I was wrong. Within a second he had turned round and was on me.
"Leave her alone!" Calum's voice shouted as he grabbed the guy and threw him to the side. "Come on, let's go!" He urged as he dragged me towards the vans door. The guy got up and as I looked back, he readied his weapon, leaping towards us with it aimed at Calum.
"No!!"
