Chapter 30
Poppy's PoV
It didn't take long at all. Baring in mind I was quite a Lone Ranger, without family and friends surrounding me, enough people contacted me to let me know I was now in the public eye. Calum had tried his best to get us out of there before the paps took over but the story was already there.

I sighed as people I worked with sent them over to me wondering if I had seen them. What annoyed me the most is that they'd already labelled me as a "5SOS gf" without anyone actually announcing we were an item. Baring in mind I was out with all the guys it was surprising that they had jumped straight to that but I suppose that's how they get their reads. They throw something out there that some people, without all the info, could believe and then they get the views they need to carry on. Of course that, and the information Stacey had probably spread to every pap she knew, had caused these articles to hit the press and fast.
"I need to speak to you and fast." I whispered to Calum as Dave pulled up to a very well guarded block of flats; gated and key coded with card access doors and 24/7 security at the door. It was a safe haven. Calum nodded at me, a slight fear showing in his eyes as Dave swiftly headed into the flat with us all in tow. He let us go to the lift, Luke calling it with his key card, as Dave spoke to the receptionist and security.
"Poppy? Can you come here a sec?" He called over and without hesitation I rushed to be beside him.
"Yeah?" I questioned the moment I stood with the group but he just smiled.
"Sorry, I just wanted them to see you so they know who you are. They need to record every visitor and anyone they don't recognise they question so I just thought it'd be worth introducing you." Dave explained as he looked between us all.
"Oh ok, no problem! Hello, it's nice to meet you." I said politely to the two people, shaking their hands. They smiled and nodded before gesturing that we were allowed to continue past. The guys had held the lift open for us so we quickly rushed in and they pressed for the top floor. I wondered whether that was because they were rich and famous enough for the top floor apartments or if the security had thought it was best that they were far enough away that the security could protect them and inform them if someone managed to get past. The music in the lift kept the silence comfortable as we headed past the single digit levels and headed into double digits. I fidgeted uncomfortably as it dawned on me I'd soon have to be having the worst conversation with Calum about my life because paps were going to have a field day as soon as they found out about my life before I'd turned to nursing. In fact, my old life was the reason I went into helping people.
"Hey, everything okay?" Ashton put a hand on my shoulder and gave it a comforting squeeze. Everyone's eyes were then on me in a flash, so I had to make sure my lie was good enough for at least most people to believe.
"Yeah, Sorry I'm not a great fan of lifts." I lied, hoping everyone would accept it without further questioning. Everyone nodded understandably apart from Calum, who looked at me like I was a bad liar but equally he knew the exact reason I was nervous.
"I know the feeling." Luke nodded, "but I'm not walking up thirteen flights of stairs!" He let out a hearty laugh and I laughed along.
"Precisely. I think it was too many horror films!" I shrugged but Luke was still in agreement.
"It doesn't help. They're always getting stuck and crashing and decapitating people..." He shuddered.
"They're not real, you know?" Michael added, tutting at the two of us.
"Some are based on true events." I added, knowing that from the pure amount I'd watched.
"Yeah, 'based on' being the key words. It's not all true." Michael retaliated smartly and I let out a smug smile.
"Alright, but I'm sure there are things you're scared of too..." I said back, an eyebrow raised as I watched him shift before responding.
"Nope. Nothing." I pulled a face that said I didn't believe him but didn't say any more, which I think he was grateful for. The lift finally pinged open on the thirteenth floor and we all headed out, Dave in the front to make sure everything seemed legitimate. The corridor was long but bare until you reached the end where a large set of double doors stood proudly, decorated delicately with an old fashioned design.
"Wow" I breathed as Dave moved closer to the door, putting the keycard in before punching in a code. An electrical buzz signalled the door's unlocking and Dave made his way in, followed by us all. He switched the lights on and, just like at the restaurant, began his patrol of the rooms making sure they were all safe. Strangely, after checking the main room, he headed straight for the small corridor where a few rooms sat. Upon checking those, he came back and nodded to Calum as he continued to check the house.
"I asked him to check my room first so we could have some privacy." Calum whispered as he grabbed my hand and walked me into his room, closing and locking the door behind him. He jumped onto his bed and lay down comfortably whilst I stood by the door like a stranger does when they aren't sure of how to react in a new place. "Come on Poppy, take a seat. Make yourself comfortable." He pushed, making me feel better about coming and sitting down beside him. He moved a cushion and put it under his boot, elevating the bad leg just how I'd told him to.
"At least you half listen." I said jokingly as I looked down at his ankle. It was weird to think that one thing had changed all our lives.
"Hey, just because I'm bored at home and went out doesn't mean I don't listen to advice!" He said, which we both realised contradicted itself straight away. We both let out a laugh and as it finally settled, I had the courage to begin the conversation I had dreaded so much.
Calum was about to hear about my life.
