Chapter 3
Hello! New chapter for you all to enjoy. It's a bit longer since we had to cover a total of three different perspectives. I tried to make the shifts between each as smooth as possible. I hope that you all like it. Don't forget to comment on what decision you want the guys to make.
80 minutes before the purge
Jin's POV
"Ah! Jungkook! Watch where you're going!" Yoongi exclaims from the living room.
Jungkook grumbles, "Why are you just lying on the floor!? You're supposed to help me board up the house." I roll my eyes as I hear them bicker from the kitchen. The two of them got along very well, but there are days where they just seem to want to bite off each other's heads. Today being one of those days. It made sense. The day of the purge. Everyone is on edge. "Just once can I not hear the two of you arguing?! Yoongi, you're older, so act your age. Jungkook, stop bothering your hyung," I yell from the kitchen as I prepare a small snack for us.
"Fine..." Yoongi grumbles, "Here, kid. Give me some of that wood. I'll help you board up the windows..."
"Thank you, hyung," Jungkook replies. I sigh as I glance at the living room. Those two would be the death of me one day. I sigh as I take out three bowls and fill them with noodles. I move the dirty dishes into the sink. I rinse my hands under the water as I hear hammering from outside. I glance at the kitchen window and see Jungkook hammering a large board over it. He notices me looking at him and gives me a smile and a wave. I wave back and mouth some words to him, come back inside, I have food for you. Jungkook's eyes light up when he registers what I had just told him. I laugh a little at his reaction. I turn back around and pick up all the bowls. I slowly make my way to the living room. Jungkook already sits there, but Yoongi isn't with him. "Yoongi, didn't want any food?" I ask as I hand him the bowl.
Jungkook takes the bowl from my hands and sniffs the food, "Hm....oh....I uh...didn't tell him."
"Jungkook!" I exclaim taking the bowl back from him, "Go tell Yoongi that I made food or else you don't get to eat." Jungkook pouts and gives me a sad look. I shake my head, "Not this time Jeon Jungkook. Go."
Jungkook sighs as he stands up and walks back outside. I sigh at Jungkook's actions. That kid sometimes focused too much on food. A minute later, Jungkook came back inside followed by Yoongi. "How dare you forget about me!?" Yoongi exclaims as he takes a seat next to me.
I hand him a bowl of food, "I didn't forget about you. Jungkookie here did."
"Sorry, Yoongi hyung," Jungkook says as I hand him his bowl back. Yoongi opens his mouth to say something, but closes it again. Yoongi could never really get mad a Jungkook. I hand both of them chopsticks, they start eating right away. I join them and smile as the flavors touch my tongue. "This is really good, hyung. Thank you for making food," Jungkook says with food in his mouth.
I smile, "You're welcome Jungkook. I'm glad you like it. And, try not to talk with your mouth full." Jungkook gives me a sheepish look before closing his mouth. "Do you like the food, Yoongi?" I ask turning to look at my other friend.
"Yeah, it's great hyung. Like always," Yoongi says not looking at me as he says it. I smile, glad that my donsaengs like their meal. I've known Yoongi since we were kids. He was always a bit of a loner. Most people are pretty surprised that the two of us remained friends for so long. I trust Yoongi with my life. Yoongi feels the exact same way. For a long time it's always been me and him against the world. We were so close that we knew each other's ticks and embarrassing stories from childhood. When we got to college, we met Jungkook. I took an immediate liking to the young man. Yoongi was a bit more hesitant. He's always been sort of afraid of losing me as a friend. He told me himself that he was scared that I would leave him and become best friends with Jungkook. I told him that he would never have to worry about me ditching him. He and I would always be friends. Jungkook was the baby of our little group. He wormed his way into the both of our hearts. Now, I can't even imagine what our group would be without him. "Hyung?" Jungkook says.
"Yeah. What is it?" I reply.
Jungkook scratches the back of his neck, "Um...today's the purge...."
"Yeah. Are you nervous? We won't be in any danger. We've boarded up the house. We'll be safe. No one will get in, just like last year," I say.
Jungkook shakes his head, "That's not it. I was um...wondering. If maybe we could go out during the purge this year."
Yoongi's POV
My eyes widen as I hear what Jungkook said. We never go out during the purge. Jin isn't a violent guy. He's against the whole idea of the purge. That's why, for as long as I can remember we've stayed inside. We've locked the doors, boarded up the windows, and hunkered down while chaos erupted outside. When Jungkook joined our group that rule didn't change. If anything, it made Jin even more protective and even more worried. Jungkook was always sort of excited when the purge came around. I think that before he met us, he used to go out during the purge. I can tell that he wants to go back to it. He doesn't because of Jin. He looks up to him. He would never go against his word. Jin always looked out for Jungkook. Sheltering him from dangers that the kid probably already experienced. Still, Jungkook never said anything when Jin coddled him. He appreciated the kindness and friendship Jin gave to him. He's a lucky kid, to have someone like Jin always worrying about him. I've known Jin for such a long time. I may even know him better than I know myself. I know that he has a big heart. He doesn't think anyone deserves any pain. He hates the purge, hates what it represents and the whole principle of it. I know he won't be happy with Jungkook's comment. "What!? Jungkookie!!! Why would you ever think of such a thing!? We've always stayed inside, where it's safe. We can't just decide to go out, especially today. We would be eaten alive!" Jin exclaims.
Jungkook looks down at his feet, "Not if we stick together, Jin hyung. We'll be okay if we bring weapons to defend ourselves."
"Do you plan on using those weapons, Jeon Jungkook?" Jin asks, "We're not killers or thieves or anything. We're just normal people."
"They're all normal people too. I was just thinking of using some spray paint. I don't want to hurt anyone. Maybe raid a store or something," Jungkook mutters. I frown, I understand where Jungkook is coming from. For as long as I've known Jin, we've stayed cooped up inside during every purge. The next day people are walking down the streets as if nothing had happened a few hours before. Yet, there is something different about them. They seem happier, like a large weight that they have carried for so long has been lifted. The thought of going out during the purge has crossed my mind more than once. I just never acted on it. I had no real reason to. One, it was too much work. Two, Jin would never let me out of the house. "Jungkook! What has happened to my innocent little bunny?!" Jin yells, "Who has corrupted you're sweet innocent mind!?" I scoff, sure, Jungkook is young. But, I know for sure he isn't as innocent as Jin thinks. "Why are you scoffing, Yoongi!? You should be backing me up! Our little Kookie wants to go out into the dangerous world of the purge!" Jin exclaims looking at me.
I roll my eyes, "Jin, you are being way too dramatic. Jungkook is an adult, I hope you know that. He's been stuck in this house every year on this day. It's normal for him to want to go out."
Jin's eyes widen, "Yoongi! You wound me. How could my oldest dearest friend not take my side?"
"Because, you may be in the wrong here, hyung. I know that you only want what's the best for Jungkook, but you have to realize that you are coddling him. You're like a helicopter parent," I state dryly, "It's not a bad thing. I know that you care for your friends deeply, but there are just times you need to give Jungkook some breathing space. The same could be said about me, I know that you worry, but there are times I just need a break." Jin stares at me, not knowing what to say. Jungkook scoots over, so he sits right next to him. He wraps his arms around Jin and gives him a hug, "I'm sorry, Jin hyung, I never should have said anything. I really don't mind that you worry about me. You just don't have to worry about me all the time. I can take care of myself."
Jin sighs and pats Jungkook on the arm, "You have nothing to be sorry about. I'm the one that should be sorry. I'll try not to baby you so much."
Jungkook nods his head, his eyes widen, "Does that mean that we can go out during the purge?!"
"No. Whatever gave you that idea?" Jin replies.
Jungkook's POV
I frown at Jin hyung's words. "I thought you said you weren't going to baby him anymore," Yoongi says.
Jin nods, "That is what I said. That doesn't mean that I'm going to let you participate in the purge."
"But, hyung....I won't get hurt. I'll have to two of you beside me," I plead. When I first came to this town, I was young and nervous. I didn't know anyone and I had no real place to stay. When I met Jin and Yoongi hyung, I felt like so happy. I had two new hyungs that I knew would look after me. Jin hyung would always worry about me and Yoongi hyung would always be there to give me advice. I don't know what I would be like today if it weren't for them. They gave me a place to stay and made me feel comfortable in this unknown place. I'm thankful for their kindness and friendship. I was alone before I moved to this town. Most of the time it was just me and my video games. It was nice to finally have someone else there. Jin chuckles, "I would never even consider going out tonight. I'm sure that the same could be said about Yoongi." Yoongi grimaces, I can tell by the look on his face that he wants to go out tonight as well. "You know how I feel about the purge, Jungkook. It's a terrible event. We live in a world where we need laws. What is the point if we're just going to throw that all out the window one day every year? Whoever came up with the idea of everything illegal being legal was an idiot. We have a government and rules for a reason. We can't just fall into chaos like some type of lunatics. The principles of the purge is unsafe and unjust. Our ancestors are probably looking at us now and laughing. This is what society has come to. Murdering, stealing, and vandalizing like it is no big deal. The purge is an absolutely atrocious event that should be removed," Jin rants.
I sigh, "I know that you don't like it, hyung. But, there isn't anything we can do about it. Maybe it isn't as bad as you think it is. You've never even been out during the day of the purge. You can't just judge it like that."
"And you have Jungkook? You know what it's like to run a mock with hooligans and psychopaths?" Jin replies.
I shrug, "Maybe I have."
"You've been out during the purge! When!?" Jin shouts.
I look at the floor, "Before I met you. My brother took me with him for some bonding before he left. I didn't get hurt. It isn't as dangerous as you think. There are a few people that go a bit nuts, but if you have someone else to stick near you should be fine."
"You've been out during the purge!!!! How come you've never told me?" Jin exclaims.
"Because I knew that you would freak out. Please relax, Jin hyung," I say calmly.
Jin's eyes widen, "Relax!!! How can I relax when I just found out something this big?"
"Hyung, calm down. People are going to hear if you start yelling any louder," Yoongi speaks up.
"How can you be so okay with this?" Jin asks, "It's the purge! Jungkook has been out among all those other people that kill and steal and vandalize. He's been among criminals!"
"I didn't know for sure if Jungkook ever went out during the purge. I had a feeling that he did, with the way he acted every time the event came around," Yoongi replies, "No offense, hyung, but you're kind of oblivious."
"What?! No I'm not," Jin retorts.
I sigh, "You kind of are, Jin hyung. I mean you've never really noticed how either Yoongi hyung or I wanted to go out during the purge."
"Wait, Yoongi wants to go out today too! Since when? How come I don't know this and you do?" Jin says with a frown.
I give him a sheepish grin, "I just guessed. It was pretty clear every time I looked at his face."
"Yoongi? You wanted to go out during the purge? Even though I am very much against it?" Jin asks his closest friend.
Yoongi scratches the back of his neck, "Yeah. The kid's right. I do sort of want to go out during the purge. I never told you cause I knew how you would react. It's not that big of a deal. You've always been against the purge. I was okay with going along with what you wanted to do."
"But, you weren't just fine with. You wanted to go out. You still do," Jin states, "You're an adult. How come you've never sneaked out behind my back?"
Yoongi shrugs, "Eh, it's too much work. I mean I have to get up and stuff....and gather some things so I don't get killed." Jin sighs as he hears Yoongi's answer. I look at him, hoping that he may have changed his mind. "You know that this doesn't change anything, right? I still hate the purge. I don't want either of you to go out today. It isn't a good idea," Jin states firmly. I glance at Yoongi and he just shrugs. I open my mouth and then close it again. "Please. Both of you. Don't think about this anymore. I don't want you guys to get hurt," Jin says with a sad look on his face.
I shake my head, "I know you worry, Jin hyung. You don't have to though, we can take care of ourselves. Please reconsider. Let us go out during the purge."
You choose!-Should they friends face the dangers of the purge or huddle up inside where it is safe?
