Chapter III: Shadows
"Hey, watch it!" she only managed to get out before her head hit the ground with a loud thump and she blacked out.
Slightly dizzy, she sat up and glanced around. At once, she noticed the golden glow of daylight filtering through the branches above her. Taking her time to stand up, she searched for the guy that she suspected had pushed her. After observing her surroundings, she glimpsed a shadow strewn across the forest floor in the shape of a crouching human. Finally, she located the owner of the shadow and was taken aback by the sight her eyes beheld. It was a lanky guy with long limbs and black hair that hung in front of his dark, slitted blue eyes. From the moment she laid her eyes on him, she couldn't move. She was afraid that if she so much as twitched a muscle, he would fade into the shadows.
Suddenly, she began feeling a prickling sensation in the back of her mind. It wasn't painful yet, only a slight nuisance, but she had never experienced this before in her many years of honing her telepathy talents, which she inherited from her mother. She disregarded it for a few seconds until it became so intense it was unbearable, and she could ignore it no longer. She quietly strode over to where he was squatting. He seemed to be lost in thought and, when she spoke, he startled and jumped to his feet.
