Hero

Anemoi took a sip of the coffee. The chains on his wist rattled "Vanilla," He stated. Valkyrie nodded in approval as she tried hers.

"Hazelnut," She gagged, placing the cup on the ground. Anemoi took hers and put his in its spot. Valkyrie stared in confusion at him. He took a sip and winked at her.

"Um, thanks." She mumbled as she drank the Vanilla coffee. Anemoi gestured to the bag she brought with her with his cup. She opened it. She pulled out two cookies. A smile spread across the two's faces.

Valkyrie handed him a cookie. "You paid for this, right?" He asked as he put a piece in his mouth.

"Sure." Valkyrie nodded slowly as she bit her cookie. Anemoi looked up in shock.

"Jaden, you didn't!" He stared at her in disbelief.

"I gave him a five for yours if it makes you feel better." She shrugged. Anemoi's jaw dropped.

"Hey, I'm one of the bad guys, what do you expect. For me to pay twenty dollars for coffee?" She said defensively.

"Yes!" Anemoi threw his hands in the air. He shook his head as he ate his cookie. "I can't believe that a stolen cookie can taste so good." He tried to fight the smile. Valkyrie snorted.

They sat in silence as they finished their meal.

Anemoi woke up in a chair. A nice change from the wall he had been shackled to. He was handcuffed to the arms of it, tied at the waist to the back, and his ankles where crossed and tied together. I am going to have so many problems when I get out of this, he couldn't help but think as the cuffs dug into the raw skin around his wrist. If I get out of this.

His mind wandered to the dark thought of being killed by his best friend. He wondered what death would feel like. If it would be quick or drawn-out.

His worries were halted by an odd noise coming from behind him. He strained his neck to see Jaden, not the cloaked Valkyrie, dragging a tripod behind her. She dropped it in front of him as if he wasn't there. She bit her nails and she walked back to the room behind him and retrieved a camera.

She hastily set up the tripod and mounted the camera so it faced him. She froze and ran behind him. She came back as the cloaked villain Valkyrie. Any emotions had left her face as she stood behind the camera and angled it to his face.

When she was pleased with everything's spot she walked in front of Anemoi. Her cloak swished dramatically as he slowly looked up at her hooded face. he expected to see a scowl or glowering eyes, but instead, he saw the nervous girl he remembered rubbing her hands indecisively. He gave her a weak smile.

"Sorry." She said as she clenched her fist. Anemoi started to say something but was cut off by Valkyrie punching him in the jaw. The pain started as a sharp spike then fade to an ache. The left side of his face throbbed at Valkyrie watched the red spot on his face turn into a nasty purple-blue bruise.

She analyzed Anemoi and wondered if this was worth it. No, she scolded herself, you made it this far already, continue. She turned the camera on and sent the message to her inside guy at the broadcasting tower. He sent back a thumbs up emoji. She slipped the phone into her pocket. Everyone in the city would be watching this.

Anemoi watched the camera light blink red, then steady. He felt butterflies flutter in his stomach. The camera beeped. Anemoi watched Valkyrie dramatically walk around the side of the camera, then behind him. Her cloak swished in sync with the click of her combat boots. The hood of her cloak kept her face well hidden from the public.

"Goodmorning Haiser City. Its everyone's favorite anchorwoman, Valkyrie. Today we have a special guest star, the famous Anemoi of the winds. Say hi Anemoi." She smiled, staring at Anemoi from under her hood.

"Um, Hi guys," He attempted to wave, but the ropes kept his hand anchored.

"Not much for introductions I see." Valkyrie laughed, walking behind Anemoi as he tried to keep his eyes on her. They both hated his show they had to put on whenever they saw each other. Sure it was cool that they knew each other, but this was terrible.

"Anemoi, why don't you tell the folks who you think I am. What was your first impression of me?" She asked. Valkyrie planned to get some fun questionnaires out of the way before they got serious.

Animoi looked startled. "Um, yo -you pushed me off a water tower the first time we formally met." He stuttered. Valkyrie realized he was going to shut down on her if something didn't happen.

"Sorry, I know this is totally unprofessional, but I have to got write a quick e-mail." Valkyrie pointed to the camera. She walked to the computer and started to write.

"Dear Mrs. Tran,

I regret to inform you that the person on the screen is really your son, and yes, he is really The Anemoi of the winds. I am sorry for what is about to happen.

Sincerely, Valkyrie"

She hit send and ran back to the camera. "Sorry for that rude interruption, but I am back, and it looks like just in time for this commercial break."

The light on top of the camera flicked three times, then stopped.

Valkyrie ripped the hood of her cloak off her head and rubbed her forehead. She
glanced at Anemoi.

"Sorry," She started out strong, her voice grew weak, "Sorry, I am, um, a bit off today. I don't feel, uh, right, if that makes sense." She stood.

"What's wrong?" Anemoi asked as he shifted in his seat. Valkyrie took off her cloak and draped it over the camera.

"I can't today." Jaden sat on the floor with her head in her hands. "I just can't. I don't know what's wrong." She rocked back and forth. Anemoi rationed between being the friend that she needed or the hero he needed to be.

"Maybe you should just call of the, um, the filming and we can just talk." He suggested, awkwardly shifting in his ropes. He hoped that that was a middle ground.

Jaden looked up at him and he could almost see the wall that had broken go back up in he eyes. They went from soft to hard and merciless in a matter of seconds. Anemoi's stomach did a summersault.

The light on the camera blinked on and off. Jaden stood up and grabbed her cloak off the camera.

"Jaden, you can end this. Just turn off the camera," Anemoi pleaded. Jaden swirled the coat on to her shoulders.

"Jaden, it's your choice," He blurted. She stopped. Anemoi prepared for another classic "it's not my choice" speech.

Pain filled her eyes as she turned to him. "Please don't call me Jaden. It makes it everything so much harder." Her voice cracked when she said the last word.

The camera light steadied. Valkyrie popped the hood over her head. She wasn't going to be friendly this time.
