Ace of Hearts

"Pick a card." I bow to the stunning young lady in front of me, displaying the array in my hand. I could see her blush under the rim of my hat as she pulls one. I notice the sun shining through her brown hair as I feel a tug in my heart.  She smiles and puts the card back in the pile. I try to keep the butterflies in my stomach tame as I run the routine. My favorite one.  I try to find out as much about her as I can in the meantime.

She was one of those flirty, mysterious types, the kind that set your heart aflutter when she smiled.  I almost dropped the stack in my hand as I pulled a card.

"Is this your card?" I ask. She looked with a wondrous smile. It falters. Mine stayed.

"No." She watches me as I grab the hat off my head and bow.

"I really am sorry miss that usually works." I pull the hat off my head and a card flutters to the ground. It lands face up.

"That's my card," She says as she looks quizzingly at me. I give her a small smile as I lift it off the hardwood deck.

"Ace of hearts," I nod and reach for her hand. She grabs mine. "A pleasure, ma'am," I say as I slide the card into her hand. She gives me a bold smile as she realized what happened. She bows and runs of the stage, her floral sundress waving like a flag behind her. I smile and realized I had been staring for a moment too long.

"A volunteer please," I call as I look back to the girl, hoping she saw the phone number I had written on the back. She turns to me and gives me a flirtatious wink before running along with her friends.  I try to suppress the butterflies in my stomach as hands wave in the crowd below me.
