Night Changes- Shot 1

Hola......

I got the idea while I was watching a music album "Lut Gaye"... nice song, nice lyrics and nice story line to go with it.... check it out if you haven't yet watched it.

The title however is taken from the song "Night changes" by One direction... listen to it to get the feel...❤

No, this won't be a tragedy like the hindi album. I am against unhappy endings and heart breaks😂😂

Caution : This is an action romance.. Meaning, there will be fights, chases and romance going hand in hand.

A new idea I decided to experiment with.

Colaba, Mumbai.

The full moon shown brighter than normal that day as if to help the police to nab the accused. On any other day, Omkara would have sat by the balcony of his cozy apartment to gaze at the rock in peace. It had been his favorite pastime since his youth.

Today however, work sort his attention and he barely had the time to register that the companion of his lone nights had been calling out to him wanting to tell him that he was going to meet someone special, that someone who would make his life turn special.

The three policemen took cover avoiding the bullets of their opponent team. Omkara gestured his friends to bend when the second bullet grazed the wall hiding them.

Irked, Rudra cursed aloud and moved out of their hiding place to take a shot. The sound from the gun was mellowed by the silencer but the fall of the lifeless body alerted their prey who took off with speed.

"Fudge Rudy, I told you to stay down," Omkara scolded him. as they ran behind the target.

"Shut up O. That bullet could have killed me. Why the hell are we not given a backup?"

"The team is approaching. Until then the target shouldn't go out of our reach," Shivaay instructed his friends.

"This Sultan bastard made me cancel my date with Bhavya. I need to live so that I can apologize tomorrow. You guys seem to be in the mood to get me killed, aren't you?"

"Now, don't overact. Focus on the work at hand," Omkara said, his breath coming short with the chase.

"What happened to the date with Sonam?"

"Not interesting. We aren't going to work out," Omkara replied.

"Who the hell cares? I asked you to just give it a try. She was ready for a one night stand."

"I wasn't in the mood yesterday."

"For god's sake guys, is this the discussion we are having while catching a terrorist?"

"Phir kya kare? Maa tujhe salam gaye? How would married-men know about our bachelors problems," Rudra retorted as Omkara took the next shot killing another.

"You should stop looking for soulmate one of these days O. Try differently, you are missing out on so much."

"I will know the one for me Rudy. I just need to keep looking."

"Who would have thought that an encounter specialist will be a romantic at heart," he mocked getting a smack on the head.

"Tum bigade hue ho, use mat bigaado,(You are a lost case, don't make him like you)," Shivaay said smacking again.

"Excuse me? He isn't that innocent. It is just that I keep my affairs open and he hides them from you."

"Shut up Rudy. The guy..." Omkara started but yelped as a bullet passed through his arm.

"Damn!! I told you to shot his head directly," Rudra said in worry.

"We want him alive," came the reply.

The three of them hid behind a car. As Omkara sat on the floor, the other two tried to remove his jacket to examine the wound.

Blood trickled down his hand and Omkara closed his eyes in pain.

"They hate you so much O. congratulations for your sincerity," Rudra mocked.

"It is a graze but you need to get it stitched Om," Shivaay said looking at his friend's injured arm.

"Where did he go? Into the Rajeha hotel?" Omkara asked as Shivaay tied a temporary bandage.

"Yeah into the fourth room of the second floor," Rudra answered.

"Let us go, I am fine for now."

"What are you thinking? You are going to walk in there, take the guy and just come out? He might take someone as a hostage, we need to inform the hotel security and take help. The team is almost around the corner," Shivaay said.

"Okay, I will follow him get him out. You both take the back up and reach the other side."

"No we will follow him and you get the back up."

"Shivaay, we have taken down all of Sultan's men. For now, he is unarmed and he will find it safe to stay hidden in the hotel than on the road. Worse, he might take somebody as a hostage and the situation will get out of control," he explained.

"Only if I chase him to run in the opposite direction will he land up in your hands. This is my mission, I can do it," he argued.

"Correction, we have taken down men who ran with him. The others are still on the loose. You will be their number one target and you shouldn't be found alone," said Rudra.

"They are not here Rudy, I will follow Sultan and that is it. The rest can be deal with later," Omkara stayed put and they huffed in annoyance.

"Fine, you won't listen anyways," Rudra said as they got up from their place.

Shivaay however wasn't keen on the idea of sending his injured friend for a chase, when they very well have a backup team coming shortly. He was ready to argue again when he stopped short hearing Rudra's answer to Omkara's next question.

"He went into the fourth floor, second room right?"

"No, it is the fifth room, second floor," Rudra lied.

"But you just said,..."

"You must have heard wrong O. Shivaay, what did you hear?"

"Yeah Rudy is right Om, you must have heard it wrong. It is the fifth room," Shivaay supported his other friend.

"Okay, let us meet at the other end," he instructed, and started to climb up the pipeline while his friends appeared to follow his orders.

Just after he entered through a window, Rudra asked Shivaay to get the back up while he trailed the prey.

*********************************************************************************************

The first thing that Omkara heard once inside the room was the faint sound of sobs, making him worry if their prey had already hurt someone.

He looked around the elegant room to find a woman crying with her face covered in her hands. Dressed in a red bridal wear, she sat in front of the huge dressing mirror, her hair undone, her dupatta on the chair beside the couch and too immersed in her pain that she didn't notice that she wasn't alone in the room.

"A..Are you okay?" he asked and heard her shocked gasp before she sharply turned around to look at him.

If he were only a romantic, he could have sworn that his heart flew out of his ribcage and found its way to the girl the very second her hazel eyes met his chocolate browns. But as he was also a police inspector, who was on the chase of a criminal, his mind stuck to the practical side.

Gorgeous would be an understatement to describe the beauty dressed in her lehenga choli.

The red blouse she wore, fit to perfection accentuating her assets and his gaze rested a while longer on the exposed part of her chest.

Gulping, he lowered his eyes and mentally groaned as they appreciated the length of her creamy waist.

The girl stared at him in shock for some time. Then remembering that she has to scream, opened her mouth to do the same when he rushed to her and closed it with his palm.

She struggled to remove his hand and he had no choice but to pin her to the nearest wall making her attempts futile in getting him off her.

As her eyes widened in fear, they filled with more water making him drown in guilt.

"Shh, don't be afraid. I am a cop and I was chasing a criminal. I might have mistaken the room which he entered," he tried to explain when a knock sounded on the door.

"Gauri, open the door," a female voice called.

"Don't tell her, talk normally," he said which only seemed to scare her more.

Omkara sighed and rummaged through his pockets to take out his ID and showed it to her. As her eyes scanned the details, she relaxed and nodded her head believing him.

"Gauri, talupu teeyu amma(open the door, dear). It is me Kalyani," the voice sounded more urgent this time.

Thankful that she relaxed, he released her and she answered the person outside the door.

"Vastunna amamma, (coming grandmother)" he heard her say and raised an eyebrow.

What does it mean?

When she saw her open the door and allow an elderly lady inside, he roughly guessed what she meant.

The older one was obviously shocked to see him there but the girl seemed to be explaining the happenings to her in a language he did not understand.

Kalyani smiled at him and he smiled back formally.

"You said you are police officer?"

"Yes daadi ji. I accidentally,...."

"Thanks you so much for coming here," she said and he frowned.

"Gauri is my granddaughter, please take her away from here," she pleaded.

"What?"

"This marriage doesn't have her consent. I tried everything to cancel this wedding but I couldn't do it. You are the only one who could help us now," she asked him.

Looking at the bride's tear stained face, he deduced as much but he couldn't agree to their pleas.

"Daadi ji, I cannot do it now. I am in the middle of something and...." he started to say when his mobile rang.

"O, where are you? We got Sultan," Rudra informed him.

"Great, are you heading back to the station?"

"Yes, me and Shivaay will go to take care of the formalities. You go to the hospital," he said and he happily agreed.

Rudra gasped and asked, "You agreed without complaint? Where are you now?"

"Nothing Rudra, I am headed to the hospital. I will call you later," he said and ended the call.

"What happened?" Kalyani asked in worry.

"We caught the criminal daadi ji. I can take her but can you please hurry up?" he asked.

Gauri again started to cry when her grandmother tried to console her. Though he didn't understand a word they spoke, he patiently waited for the ladies to assure one another.

Kalyani picked up a bag from under the bed while Gauri hurriedly wiped her face clean and draped her dupatta.

"I will check if the corridor is empty," said the elder one and went out of the room. In no time, she guided them down the stairs to the backyard.

"I will take it from here," Omkara said and Kalyani nodded her head before she looked at her grand daughter with tears.

"Be careful," she mumbled to the girl before she hugged and kissed her a good bye.

"Hurry up, the security might soon come back here for their night stroll," she adviced them before she left them alone.

Omkara looked at Gauri as she continued to stare at the path through which the old woman exited, a sad look on her face.

He cleared his throat and her eyes shifted their focus to him.

"Uhh, you can give me that bag," he said and she shook her head in a no.

"You cannot climb the backwall with that," he stated and she widened her eyes as she looked at the wall which was twice her height.

How was she supposed to climb that?... she wondered looking at her lehenga.

As if guessing her thoughts, he looked around the place and luckily spotted a ladder. With it's help, they safely crossed the wall and reached the other side.

"Okay, we are almost near the car," he informed and walked ahead while she struggled to match his pace, her bag still in hand.

A few steps later when Omkara turned around, he found her slowly walking, looking around the place as if she were seeing it for the first time.

"You are slowing me down," he said and she mumbled a sorry.

He sighed and gave her his hand, asking her to take it but when she looked at him panic, he frowned.

"What is it?"

"B..blood, are you hurt?" she asked in worry.

"No, it is a small cut, come," he assured asking for her hand again. She contemplated for a second or two before she took it.

Omkara hissed and retracted his hand as he felt the static, making her frown at him.

"What happened?" she asked in worry when he stared at his hand in confusion.

"N..Nothing," he mumbled before took her hand again to hurry towards the car.

*****************************************************************************

"Do you have a place in mind?" he asked as he drove her away from the place.

"I have a friend who lives in Vikroli," she said and handing him the address slip.

"Will your parents not suspect that you will go to her? They might look for you there first," he said.

"They don't know," she said not wasting another word to elaborate.

He wanted to know more but he didn't want to look like a prying idiot.

"You are not from here," he stated and she nodded.

"In which college did you study?" he asked and she replied with silence.

"I am sorry but I wanted to know about the girl for whom I left my work unfinished," he urged.

"I finished my postgraduation in literature. You are right, I am not from here. I came from Hyderabad a month ago."

"Oh, so you were talking in telugu?"

She smiled and nodded her head in a yes.

"Why did you not like the guy?" he asked as he looked into the rare view mirror.

"Huh?"

"The guy whom you are supposed to marry today."

She gave a mirthless laugh as she answered, "He was a divorcee who had a daughter close to my age."

Omkara cursed aloud and apologized for the language.

"How could your parents..."

"They are not my parents," she cleared.

For the next five minutes when she didn't speak, he didn't ask further, thinking it must be too personal that she found it hard to divulge it to a stranger.

At the moment, he has more important things to worry about. Like the car, which had been following them since the start of their journey.

Are they Sultan's men wanting to ambush him?

He took out his phone to message Rudra when he heard her speak again.

"My parents married for love. My father was the elder son of the Yeshwanth Raheja, a strict Punjabi and when he married my mother who was a telugu brahmin, he was furious. He threw my parents out and vowed to remove my father's name from his will. Nanna and amma shifted to Hyderabad and I grew up there."

"Three months ago, they died in a car crash," she said as the tears dripped from her eyes.

Omkara knew not how to comfort her and stayed silent allowing her to tell her story.

"A month ago my grandmother was informed that Yeshwanth Raheja was on death bed and he wanted to see his eldest grandchild. Kalyani ammama never thought that he would die leaving the entire Rajeha empire to his grandchildren. I was eldest and I was given fifty percent shares of the group."

"My chacha chachi apparently were not happy with his decision but couldn't do anything legally. They planned to marry me off to that guy who offered them a better deal."

"I pleaded and begged to not that with me. I even offered to write my shares off to them which ammamma strictly refused. It seems my grandfather asked her of that favor since he did not like my chachi's intentions."

"Terrible, thanksfully you are out of all that now," he said his mind still stuck on the vehicle behind them.

"Hopefully."

Omkara's phone pinged with a message. He looked at it and muttered something incoherent.

"Is everything alright?"

"No," he said and she looked at him in worry.

"We are being followed Gauri," he informed and she almost turned her head around when he asked her not to.

"I am sorry but we have to stop nearby."

"What? Why?"

"These men are lapdogs of the criminal we caught tonight. They have been escaping the police since a year. I messaged a colleague and he asked me to lure them into our safe house so that we can capture them," he explained.

No longer did he say those words, a shot rang in the air and the back window of the car shattered. Omkara put on the gear and sped on the road, as the other car followed them closely.

Gauri's heartbeat skyrocketed and she tightly clutched on to her seat, lest she be thrown out of the window with the way he drove her.

Seeing her in panic, Omkara couldn't help but curse out loud.

"I will mislead them and drive into a housing society nearby. U have to get down there and in sometime one of my colleagues will pick you and drop to the place you want to go."

"No, I will come with you," she said making him glare at her.

What the hell is she thinking? He wanted to shout at the carelessness but he mellowed his temper.

"It is dangerous Gauri. I cannot take you," he said in helplessness and looked away from her anxious eyes.

"Please Omkara," she said making him turn to her again.

Damn!! Never did he find the sound of his name that melodic.

"Sorry, I meant Omkara sir, .." she tried to correct.

"No, call me Omkara."

"Please take me with you, I promise I will do as you say," she said and he sighed in give up before dialing his friends.
