Chapter 26 - A Rising Dawn of Hope
(After Balto sends the text message —location; forest)
"Good. You're not dead." someone says.
He walks over to Blade's now fully awake body as Irene's staff lays beside Blade. His trusty swords are also nowhere to be found.
"Didn't know I was." Blade responds then narrows his eyes. "Who are you, exactly?"
"Someone who hates Aaron." the person says.
My dad? Why does he hate my dad? Blade questions mentally. "That didn't answer my question." he growls.
The person smirks, pleased at the sudden growl he hears. "Ah, you're a wolf." he smiles then bends down on his knees to face Blade. "So am I." he snarls with a grin plastered on his face.
He then rises back to his feet and raises his hands up to his head. They grab onto the hood covering the person's head and lifts it down.
"You still didn't answer my question. Who the hell are you?" Blade snaps, impatiently.
"You may call me Balto Pyscho. Now tell me your name, pup." Balto smiles.
Do I tell him? He hates my dad, what if he kills me because of that? No, Blade, stop being so morbid. He's not going to kill me, right? Blade fixates his golden eyes to stare at the ground.
"I'm waiting." Balto folds his arms across his chest while he waits for Blade's answer.
He won't kill me if I fight back. Blade gives Balto a small smirk. "None of your business." he says.
"None of my business?" Balto questions. "Whatever do you mean, pup?"
"I mean, it's none of your business! You don't need to know my name." Blade replies.
"Stupid mutt, answer me!" Balto growls ferociously then shifts into a dark brown wolf with blazing red eyes.
He pounced onto Blade, pinning him to the ground.
"L..let me go!" Blade shouts.
Blade tries to kick Balto off him but the wolf is too strong for him to fight back.
(Flashback — Blade's POV)
"You know what Ultimas are, Blade?" Toby asked me.
I shook my head. "What are they?" I replied.
"Ultimas are the most dangerous and powerful werewolf to ever roam. They are also a species of Alpha werewolves." Toby told me with a smile on his face.
"You know, I think you'd be a good Alpha. You're already a good fighter and while you can't really make decisions on your own, being an Alpha Werewolf is in your blood, Blade. Don't ever forget that." he explained.
"Who knows, one day you may just become an actual Alpha." Rowan spoke up.
(Flashback ends —nobody's POV)
He successfully kicks Balto off of him as he stands before the other wolf, a wolf himself. Balto huffs and turns to pad away, then comes walking back in his werewolf form.
"You really are a wolf. Now I must know, for I am curious, who are your parents?" he asks Blade.
Blade tilts his head before disappearing further into the forest then reappearing a few seconds later. Oh he is so going to be pissed.
He smirks. "Aphmau and Aaron Lycan." Blade responds, casually.
Balto blinks and rubs his eyes with his clenched fists. "What." he says.
"Say that again." Balto demands.
"No. I've already said it once." Blade complains but the look from Balto tells him otherwise. "Fine. My parents are Aphmau and Aaron Lycan."
"Aaron? The one who threw me out of the window just because I was flirting with Aphmau?" Balto questions aloud.
Thank you Travis for telling me these stories. "Um, yeah." Blade says.
"Of course, Aaron was a werewolf the whole time, wasn't he! That foolish Alpha lied to everyone about his real nature! What a irritating little mutt." Balto grumbles to himself.
He then notices a pink staff laying beside Blade's feet. He walks over to it and bends down, picking it up with his right hand. Balto tests the weight of it, balancing it on his finger while Blade watches intensively.
"Hey! Put that down!" Blade snaps. "That's not for you! So stop touching it!"
Balto smirks. "Oh, this thing?" he says with an innocent tone of voice before he snaps the staff in half.
"Oops." he snickers. "Should've not had that to begin with."
No duh! That was Irene's staff and you broke it into half! Blade glares at him, his eyes flickering between their normal golden color and the untamed red of an Ultima.
They eventually settle on red as Blade shifts into his wolf form and charges at Balto with full-blazing speed. His vision is nothing but the pure color of blood as Blade rips into Balto like a starving wild wolf surviving on a killing spree. By the time his vision goes back to normal, Balto's body remains mangled into pieces. Clear evidence that an out of control werewolf killed him.
Blade shifts back and can only stare at the horror he just created. "Oh my Irene...I killed him." he whispers.
He carefully steps over Balto's mangled body and grabs the two broken pieces of Irene's staff with both hands. Blade turns around and studies Balto's body for a second before he breaks into a run, heading further into the forest.
Blade stops running and starts a slow walk towards a clearing where he drops the pieces of her staff onto the ground. He traces his left hand over both of them, then sighs softly.
"Why did I kill him? It was like I wasn't in control, anymore." he mumbles and fishes out his phone.
He hesitates several minutes about whether to send a text to his parents, letting them know where he was. Should I tell them what happened? What if they judge me? What if they kick me out because I killed someone? What if they abandon me? Leave me? No, they wouldn't do that, Blade, they are your family! Family sticks together.
Mom
Hey Mom...
Blade? Sweetheart, what is it?
I know you, Dad, and Alina are probably wondering where I am...right?
Right. So tell me, where are you son?
In a clearing...in the middle of a forest.
Your dad and I figured Balto took you. I assume that's where he took you. To the forest.
Mhm. But, um, I did something...I don't know how it happened.
Blade, you're scaring me. What happened?
I...I killed Balto.
(Mom is offline)
Blade then hears his phone go off, the usual notification sounds rings loud in his ears.
Dad
Blade. We need to talk.
Aph showed me your text conversation you had with her and truth be told, I'm worried about you, kiddo.
According to Travis, you never killed anyone before so mind telling me what led you to killing Balto?
Fine. Balto just pushed my buttons enough to make me slaughter him.
I don't know why you're lying to your own father. A voice tells him from deep in his mind. Blade shakes his head and sighs.
I know. Balto's always been like that. Now, tell me this; were you in control when you slaughtered him?
The truth, Dad, is I wasn't. All I saw was red, didn't even realized I killed him until it was too late.
You're losing control, Blade. But don't worry. You are not alone in this. You have family and friends here to help you regain control, okay son?
Okay, Dad.
Blade sets his phone down on his lap and looks up to the bright blue sky with a smile on his face. He's right. I'm not alone.
