Nico di Angelo: Be
[Remember: All demigods are adults here. And, mature themes included, do not read if sensitive to mental health issues.]
Nico thought he was invisible... until after the war with Gaia. Then, he enjoyed when others talked about him, because it meant they cared enough to put his name on their tongue.
Ever since, Nico had completely broken out of his shell, maybe even a little too much. He'd fucked all the gay guys in camp, and was a charmer on the streets. He made jokes and was loud. He became great friends with Leo and terrorized other campers. He wanted to say it was his true self, but...
It was just attention-seeking. Attention, making up for all the attention he'd lost as a grieving child.
And once Nico realized that... He fell back into the shell of a person he was before. If he wasn't meant to be invisible or visible, was he meant to be at all?
He stood on the top of his cabin. It wasn't enough to jump and kill himself, but maybe break a bone. Would anyone care? Probably not, people broke bones training all the time here. Would anyone ask him how it happened? Would they think he slipped up while training?
He dangled a single foot off. It would hurt, too. Was it even worth it? Maybe he should just kill himself now.
He thought about his sister. She'd want him to keep going... wouldn't she? Bianca always cared for him.
And Hazel... His half-sister. She would be sad. But somehow, Nico couldn't bring himself to care about either of them.
He jumped off the cabin, falling on his arm. He felt a crack and suddenly it got puffy.
He walked to the infirmary, but there was someone waiting for him there. Will. He had his arms folded and a stern look on his face.
"Why would you do that to yourself?"
Nico was caught by surprise. "I- what? How did you-"
"It's the way you fell on it. Plus, I saw you hop off your cabin's roof. Why would you do that?"
Nico lowered his head. Will brought him into a private room.
"Are you suicidal?" Will asked frankly.
Nico shrugged. He wasn't even sure what that meant outside of being an idiot on the battlefield.
"What does that mean, Nico?"
He took a deep breath. "I just... don't know what I'm doing here."
"Here, at Camp?"
"Here, anywhere."
Will started writing on a notepad. Then, he looked up and asked another question, "Why would you hurt youself?"
"Same reason," Nico said, glancing down at his broken arm. It didn't hurt as much as he expected. He'd been through worse.
"You have to be, Nico," Will commented.
"Have to be what?"
"Just be," he clarified. "You just have to be. Around."
Nico clenched his jaw. "Is that enough?"
Suddenly, Will put down his notebook entirely and met Nico's eyes. "It's more than enough. And it's required. So lay back while I set your arm, and don't go jumping off any higher cabins, okay?"
