Stalker
(A/N ALERT ALERT ALERT if Destiny seems off because she's a full-on badass in this chapter and we get some songfic action and FYI yes the song will be from after 2001 because all songs before then suck and I found a perfect song for Destiny being a total badass)
As dad enters the break room, we were laughing and giggling. Dad smiles and shakes his head. Uncle Warrick, Aunt Sara and I are sitting at the break table, huddled over the latest "Crime Stopper" issue. "Who wrote this, "Uncle Warrick asked. "You're kidding me, right," Dad asked. "Nick Stokes, Crime Stopper," I said and the dad chuckles. "You went Hollywood on me, man," Uncle Warrick said. Then Aunt Sara spoke up, "And I quote, "in his off time, he enjoys creating and inventing toys." That's fascinating. What kind of toys do you make, Nick," she joked. "To be honest he judges me for the talent show. I'm singing," I said. "I thought I got my hands on all those departmental newsletters. Where'd you get those," he asked. We all looked at him and we all said, "Greg." "Yeah, that figures. All right, listen, Grissom wants us to divide and conquer. Blond hair for you, Warrick, "dad hands Uncle Warrick the bagged strand of hair. "I do love a blond," he said. I rolled my eyes at this teenage behaviour. Dad puts the file folder on the table in front of Aunt Sara, "Sara, you're on phone records," he said. "Yay," she said. Dad slowly leaves the room. He crumples the newsletter on his way out. Uncle Warrick said, "Hey, I wasn't done reading that." I giggled. "Yes, you are," dad said
Lab
Greg is sitting at the table reading a "Teen" magazine with Pink on the cover. He doesn't move when Uncle Warrick comes in. "How's that platinum blond coming," Uncle Warrick asked. "the wrong question," Greg said. "Come on, Greg I'm not getting anything out of trace. I was hoping you could help me out here," He said. "I took a snip, ran a crossed immuno-electrophoresis, "Greg puts his magazine aside and picks up the bag with the hair sample. He tosses it to Uncle Warrick, "Didn't pass," Greg his goes back to his magazine. "Not hair? Not human? What are you reading," Uncle Warrick asked. Greg turns the cover over and shows it to uncle Warrick. "This is Pink. Pink, this is Warrick, "He joked. "Do you know how hot you are? Ssss!," he said looking a the cover. I slapped him playfully, "Respect women," I said. "Bet I know someone who's hotter and I'm not talking about looks," Uncle Warrick said. I then laughed at Greg's look on his face. "Yeah?" Greg asked. Uncle Warrick nodded. "How mad is he?" Greg asked. "Watch your back," I said.
I was scrolling through my Playlist with my headphones in but not playing any music while dad was fuming a plastic bag when Greg walked in. He knocked lightly on the door. "Heard you were looking for me," he asked. "Greg. Come here. I want to talk to you for a sec, "Dad said. Greg hesitates at the door. "Come on, "Dad said. Greg walks in and stops when he reaches dad. "What's up," he asked. Dad slaps Greg on the back and grasps the back of his neck. "Stop invading my privacy, man, I don't like it. I'm just trying to do my job around here. I don't need the extra attention and neither does Destiny. She has a talent show coming up," dad said. "Okay. But, I mean, you are the one who's doing the "Forensic Spotlight" in the department newsletter and didn't Destiny help you out," Greg said. Dad tightens his grip on Greg's shoulder. Greg winces in pain. "I didn't do anything, man. Someone from the community wrote a letter of commendation. Public affairs ran it. Cool," Dad asked. Greg nods and said, "Cool." Dad lets go of Greg and walks around the tank. Greg sighs and looks into the tank. "So, uh, what are you fuming," he asked. A plastic bag from the crime scene. I'm trying to get lucky -- see if I can get some prints off it, "Dad said. Dad opens the top of the tank and starts to fan the fumes. Greg stares intently at the plastic bag inside. "Did she die of suffocation," he asked. Dad stares at Greg, amazed that he got it in one. Greg still stares at the plastic bag inside the tank. He glances up at Dad when he doesn't get a response. Dad catches on that Greg sees something. He moves back around the tank to stand next to Greg. "What is it," I asked making the two jump. I rolled my eyes and walked over to the tank. On the plastic bag is the imprint of the victim's face.
Later
Dad and I were heading home. I was humming and Dad was looking through the mall. Once inside Dad turned on the T.V. with his new sports package. He got me a normal package but with a few extra movies and t.v. show channels. The guy who installed them was a bit weird but he did to my request which was nice of him. I then heard dad say, "Horndog? It's a blast from the past." "Ohhhhh college you and blackmail," I said moving my chair beside him. "All right don't get too excited," He said. Dad looked at the first two pictures with memories. Then the third picture. "She looked like the victim," I said as I had seen the pictures. Dad froze and then nodded. "You wanna hear a song I'm doing for the talent show," I asked him so we could change the topic. "Which two songs were you thinking of," he asked. "Daddy's Lessons or Uncover," I said. "Beyonce or Zara Larsson," he said, "Sing uncover," he said. "Nobody sees, nobody knows We are a secret, can't be exposed That's how it is, that's how it goes Far from the others, close to each other. In the daylight, in the daylight When the sun is shinin' On a late-night, on a late-night When the moon is blindin' In the plain sight, plain sight Like stars in hidin' You and I burn on, on Put two and together, forever we'll never change Two and together, we'll never change Nobody sees, nobody knows We are a secret, can't be exposed That's how it is, that's how it goes Far from the others, close to each other That's when we uncover, cover, cover That's when we uncover, cover, cover. My asylum, my asylum is in your arms When the world gives heavy burdens I can bear a thousand tons On your shoulder, on your shoulder I can reach an endless sky Feels like paradise Put two and together, forever we'll never change Two and together, we'll never change Nobody sees, nobody knows We are a secret, can't be exposed That's how it is, that's how it goes Far from the others, close to each other That's when we uncover, cover, cover That's when we uncover, cover, cover We could build a universe right here All the world could disappear Wouldn't notice, wouldn't care We could build a universe right here The world could disappear Yeah, I just need you near Nobody sees, nobody knows We are a secret, can't be exposed That's how it is (It is), that's how it goes (It goes) Far from the others, close to each other That's when we uncover, cover, cover That's when we uncover, cover, cover (Ooh, yeah) That's when we uncover, "I sang with my eyes closed. Dad clapped but then we had to go the sleep since he had the graveyard shift he slept in the morning as did I getting my work done and in every week before it was due.
Next day
I had a walkie-talkie beside me if dad or anyone needed to talk. It buzzed to life but it was Uncle Warrick's panicked voice. "Patrol. Request immediate backup. Immediate backup. Officer down. I need emergency medical assistance! Eight-two-six." I didn't hear the rest. That was my Dad's badge number. "I'm coming to the hospital with you, "I said to Aunt Sara who nodded and took me along. If she said no I would hotwire a car.
At the hospital
Aunt Sara and Aunt Cathrine stand as the doctor exits dad's room to give them an update. Uncle Grissom and Uncle Warrick are also there. The doctor began to list his injuries, "Concussion, two cracked ribs, sprained wrist, five stitches to the forehead. It could have been a lot worse. Tears filled my eyes. "But 's going to be all right," I asked. "He needs rest. But I don't see why he can't go home relatively soon," the doctor said. "Also if anyone wants to see him you can go in."Thank you, doctor," Uncle Grissom said and the doctor left. "Damn it. Grissom, this guy was right there. I could have had him, "Uncle Warrick said. Uncle Grissom told him, "You helped out Nick. That was the right thing to do," "Doesn't feel like the right thing," he replied. "You know, Nick was alone. The Stalker could have killed him and didn't," Aunt Cathrine said. "Yeah, I wonder why. Let's go back over there, "Uncle Grissom said. "I'm staying here. Once we wake up I'll drive the Police cruiser home," I said. "We'll be back," Aunt Sara said as I can't sign discharge papers.
A little later
Now, these painkillers are the real deal, okay? Don't overdo it. Plenty of rest. No work for at least a week," the doctor said and hands the medication to me. Dad is sitting in a wheelchair and Aunt Sara's behind him. "Will do, thank you, doctor," I said. The doctor left. Aunt Sara pushes the chair and they all walk down the hallway. "The gloves, you find them," he asked. "Catherine thinks he might have got away with them. But, uh, Grissom did find some wacky video collection, "Uncle Warrick said. "Of what, "He asked. Now, did you not just hear the doctor? You're supposed to rest. They're on it, okay," I said. "Yeah, relax, Ironside, "Uncle Warrick said.
At night
I was in my room when I heard something crash downstairs. I crept into the kitchen while dad was distracted. I looked up to see another man jump down and take my dad's spare gun. "Oh, man. You got to ... you got to watch who you let in here. The guy was snooping around all over the place. You know, smart move. Spare gun," He said. That was the man from Luna T.V.
FLASHBACK
I was going through different T.V. plans. I was thinking of getting a normal plan but I dropped that idea and decided to get a movie bundle with Netflix because come on. Musicals. My dad would get the sports bundles. "Destiny the satellite guy is here, "I heard dad call me. I came downstairs and was quickly throwing my hair in a loose bun. "So you chose your plan," the man asked. "Yes the movie bundle," I said giving him the paper with all the plans listed.
FLASHBACK OVER
(I'm gonna go off-script now)
I grabbed a knife. "DAD DUCK," I yelled and threw the knife at him. Dad ducked but so did Crane. The knife hit my phone which was connected to the speaker letting the song that was on play. I always fought better with a little music.
Came into this world
Daddy's little girl
And daddy made a soldier out of me
I looked at him then I grabbed a frying pan and tried to hit him. I saw the gun laying far away for me to get to it. I managed to lay a few hits but he overpowered me. He knocked me down but i got up.
Daddy made me dance
And daddy held my hand
And daddy liked his whisky with his tea
I grabbed the piece of rubble dust and blind him while I got the gun but before I could reach the gun he pulled me back and flipped me over his head slamming me into the ground. "Ok now you made me mad," I said to him.
And we rode motorcycles
Blackjack, classic vinyl
Tough girl is what I had to be
I back-flipped kicking him in the face. I kicked him in the stomach. I had gotten way too far away from the gun. I looked at him. I tried to sweep him off his feet but he hit her a part of the roof. I stumbled but got right back in the game.
He said, take care of your mother
Watch out for your sister
That's when daddy looked at me With his gun, with his head held high
He told me not to cry
I tried to charge at him but he grabbed me smashes me into a wall of glass items. I hissed at the pain but I was closer to the gun.
Oh, my daddy said shoot
Oh, my daddy said shoot
With his right hand on his rifle
He swore it on the bible
Oh, my daddy said shoot
Oh, my daddy said shoot he held in his arms He taught me to be strong He told me when he's gone and When trouble comes to town And men like me come around Oh, my daddy said shoot Oh, my daddy said shoot
I looked at him with a fire in my eyes. "Look you can do all you want to me but don't mess with my family. My dad, my grandparents, my uncles and my aunts are all I need," I said. I grabbed some broken glass and tried to stab him with it.
Daddy made me fight, it wasn't always right
But he said, girl, it's your second amendment
He always played it cool, but daddy was no fool
And right before he died he said, remember
I managed to graze him. I turned and punched him in the gut. I had more of a purpose to at least harm him. I need to get him down now. I need to save my dad from him. I can't let him win.
He said, take care of your mother
Watch out for your sister
That's when daddy looked at me With his gun, with his head held high
He told me not to cry
Oh, my daddy said shoot
Oh, my daddy said shoot
I had to grab that gun. I grabbed a bunch of glass and threw it at him. I managed to get the gun but I didn't figure the safety in time was knocked down easily. I gave the man a death glare. "Seriously," I said.
With his right hand on his rifle
He swore it on the bible
Oh, my daddy said shoot
Oh, my daddy said shoot He held in his arms
He taught me to be strong
He told me when he's gone
Here's what you do
When trouble comes to town
And men like me come around
Oh, my daddy said shoot
Oh, my daddy said shoot
I grabbed the gun again and aimed. "Get on the ground," I yelled. "or what. you.......you'll shoot," he said. "You're ju.....just a girl," he said. just a girl. I hate that phrase so much.
My daddy warned me about men like you
He said, baby girl, he's playing you
He's playing you
My daddy warned me about men like you
He said baby girl he's playing you
He's playing youHe held in his arms
And he taught me to be strong
He told me when he's gone
Here's what you do
When trouble comes to town
And men like me come around
Oh, my daddy said shoot
Oh, my daddy said shoot
With the last words of the song, I shot him twice in the legs as everyone rushed in. Brass and Officers of Crane. The last thing I heard was dad calling my name and someone catching me as I blacked out. I woke up in the hospital with my grandparents beside me. "Grandma Grandpa, "I said to them. "She's awake," Grandma called. Everyone came in. "How are you, "dad asked. "Fine but important question. Did I miss the talent show?"I asked. They shook their heads. "They postponed it so you could take part and Destiny you're getting your first medal of valour and you're not even a cop yet, "Aunt Cathrine said. I fainted again. Two weeks later after getting my first medal of valour I had to get ready for the talent show I knew which song to sing. I got my Guitar and head out to the park. "And now Destiny stokes, "The MC said I began to sing.
"He looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see
That I want and I'm needing everything that we should be
I'll bet she's beautiful, that girl he talks about
And she's got everything that I have to live withoutHe talks to me, I laugh 'cause it is just so funny
That I can't even see anyone when he's with me
He says he's so in love, he's finally got it right,
I wonder if he knows he's all I think about at nightHe's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I dohe walks by me, can he tell that I can't breathe?
And there he goes, so perfectly,
The kind of flawless I wish I could be
She'd better hold him tight, give him all her love
Look in those beautiful eyes and know she's lucky causeHe's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I doSo I drive home alone, as I turn out the light
I'll put his picture down and maybe
Get some sleep tonightBecause he's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
He's the time taken up, but there's never enough
And he's all that I need to fall intoHe looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see"
