01.02 - call me elliot

Chattering filled the hallways as the excited students made their way in waves into the large auditorium. Along the way, students cheerfully greeted the pair who had a reputation for their good looks and personalities which naturally attracted others to them like moths to a burning light. It slowed the pair down a bit, but both responded to the others in a mixture of a polite and cheerful manner which only cemented their reputation as good classmates to the others and whether they meant to or not, it also attracted the other classmates to them even more.

When the two managed to get into the auditorium, Kai naturally found a couple of other buddies and intermingled with them as he greeted them and sat beside them like the spot was reserved for him. Elliot followed him and sat down slowly which gave Bonnie a chance to crawl out from the hoodie and onto his shoulder. If anyone had seen the pair, they would have taken note of how similar they looked as they both gave off a peaceful aura. Neither spoke to each other but surprisingly, it was comfortable doing so.

Elliot glanced to his side where Kai was enthusiastically explaining to the Nam brothers about how his trip to another country went during his winter vacation. From his memories, Elliot had a basic understanding of Kai's personality as well as the Nam brothers, Jason and Derek, yet no matter how much he racked his brain for the answer, he had yet to understand why Kai liked the pair so much ever since they joined the academy over a year ago. Jason and Derek were a questionable choice of friends, but the previous Elliot hadn't been the type of person to get in between their friendship without a solid reason to intervene and so the current Elliot would only follow in his footsteps. After observing them, Elliot moved his eyes away from the energetic trio and towards the stage that was at the front.

It wasn't long before the atmosphere slowly changed and even calmed down at the arrival of the headmaster, Berger, who slowly made his way across the stage and towards the podium that was situated on the left. Louis Berger was clearly an elderly man but despite his frail stature he was able to easily take over the rowdy crowd and quiet them within seconds. He held a microphone in his hand and tapped it gently to test it before raising it to his lips when it met his standards.

"Welcome back students," he politely greeted the students and continued.

"As you may have already noticed, we have started off the school year differently from previous ones. This change will be one of many the academy has decided to implement to make Seacoast Academy a school our students can be proud of fully claim as their own. Recently test scores have been lower than past years dropping our rank in the country out of the top three for the first time in years. To fix this, we have decided to hire additional instructors to aid in the development of our students as well as opening our doors to new students we believe can influence our ranking for the better. These students were carefully selected and have been awarded with fully paid tuition for their hard work."

Elliot he was quickly able to catch onto the headmasters' goal through just his introduction. Basically, since the current students were no longer keeping up to the headmasters' standards, Berger was inviting new students who could even out the range of the test scores so that the academy could rise back to its previous ranks. His suspicions were confirmed as Berger continued.

"As incentive, the school has decided to reward the top three students in each grade $35,000 per semester which they qualify for the reward to keep showing gratitude for the hard work of our students. We hope our students strive not only for the money but for the betterment of our school. Before I release you to your respective classrooms, I would like to encourage you to reach out to your new classmates who come to this new environment. With that,  you are dismissed and have a good first day back."

The headmaster retreated off the stage as chattering in the room reached its highest volume yet. Elliot slightly frowned. It wasn't hard to recognize what the problem was with this situation. To him, the arrival of new students meant an unknown variable to him. His intuition was warning him and so he decided to listen to it.

Bonnie, can you please check again?

The bunny stirred awake as it had fallen into a light sleep at some point but nonetheless still answered.

Ninety.

Elliot's frown deepened and Kai, who was beside him noticed and misunderstood the currently brooding teen.

"What's wrong? Do you really hate the idea?" Kai asked.

"No that's not it," Elliot answered casually.

"Not sure I believe that. Your frown is pretty obvious," Kai joked as he gestured towards his own eyebrows.

Elliot playfully rolled his eyebrows as he tugged on the straps of Kai's bag.

"Get up before were late," he said in an attempt to change the subject. It seemed to work because Kai quickly grabbed his bag, and the brothers followed his example as well.

Leaving the auditorium was a much smoother process and they were able to make it to their classrooms in no time. At first glance the classroom was familiar but if you were to look at it closer, anyone would be able to notice the additional seats. It wasn't many but it was enough to make an impact.

Students each had a suitable size desk with compartments underneath to place their textbooks that they didn't want to store in the lockers lining the walls of the room. These very desks were placed side by side in pairs, so each person has one classmate as a desk mate. As for Elliot, his desk mate happened to be Kai and seated behind the pair were the brothers.

Once all four were seated, it still wasn't enough for Kai to stop talking with the brothers. The only difference was that this time the topic had changed to the new students. Kai was already making plans on how to invite the students to hang out after school much to the obvious distaste of the brothers which Kai was unable to tell unlike Elliot. One of the brothers, Derek, accidentally met eyes with Elliot and nervously looked away guilty. There was something in Elliot's clear eyes that had scared him as if he was doing something terribly wrong. They were too clean and light, but he brushed off the feeling when Elliot had sent him a smile.

When the time signaled the arrival of the first class for the day, the students moved to take out the right textbooks and notebooks despite the fact that the instructor had yet to arrive. Just as they were beginning to get confused and worried, the door opened but the instructor was not the only person to cross into the room. Behind walked four youths, two guys and two girls.

Elliot could feel the excitement radiation off Kai which was the opposite of Elliot who sat stiffly in surprise.

Last in line stood a youth, slender yet firm. With only his posture one could feel the dignified aura that came off of him. If that wasn't impressive enough, then you would have to notice his looks that could only be described as pretty. Not handsome, not beautiful but pretty due to the mixture of soft and delicate features. Dark eyes framed with long eyelashes scanned the classrooms as the classroom did the same to him. They seemed to shine in a different way from Elliot's whenever the light would catch them. The only off thing about him was surprisingly the worn-down shoes he had on that not only stood out in the whole class but even among the fellow students he had arrived with.

"I think he's prettier than me," a girl nearby whispered to herself. Funny enough, Kai was also impacted as he was most quiet he had been the whole day.

As the class gawked at the four, but mostly at the youth, the instructor asked the new students to introduce themselves. The instructor believed that with introductions about basic information, the new student could integrate better by helping the rest know more about them. The two teen girls went first and by the end, the whole classroom knew them as Krystal and Summer. Then was the other guy. His named turned out to be Jonah but the only remarkable thing about him was how much he stuttered during his minute long introduction.

Last was the impressive youth who gave a less than impressive introduction as he simply introduced himself with his name.

"Carson."
