Chapter 8
Roman was definitely not dreaming about a certain Ravenclaw when he was shoved off of his bed.
"What the Hell?!" He yelled, sitting up to see his entire dorm laughing in his face. Jack was sitting on his bed.
"Rise and shine, Sleeping Beauty." Jack laughed, wiping his eyes.
Standing up, his face burning, Roman shoved Jack off his bed. "Fuck you, Jack. Fuck. You." He muttered but he smiled slightly. There were no hard feelings, this was a weekly thing. It just happened to be Roman's week to be shoved out of his bed.
"Anyway, Alex told me what they got you to promise to." Jack said, swinging his legs as he sat down on his own bed. Roman smirked slightly, ignoring the blush that was creeping back up his face.
"And did they tell you what I had gotten them to promise to?" Jack shook his head, confused. Roman laughed. "Well, you'll find out soon enough. We had a deal."
Jack's eyes widened. "Roman, if you-I swear to Merlin if you told them- I'll murder you."
Janus was the only one left laughing as he looked between Roman and Jack. "Jack, we all know you're secretly happy with what Roman's done." Janus said, standing up and leaving the dorm. "Remember, I used to be a compulsive liar. I can tell when other people are telling lies."
Jack looked from the exit to the rest of the Dorm who were all looking at him and smirking. His face flushed a dark red. "No, listen, I don't-"
"There's no point lying, Jack." Roman said in a sing-song voice. "We all know you've liked Alex the moment you met them."
"Yeah, liked! Not like liked them!" Jack spluttered. Roman laughed again.
"Jack, we're your dorm mates. We know that when you got embarrassed or flustered, you turn into a blushing, spluttering mess. You can't fool us."
Jack sighed and stood up. "Fuck you all." He muttered before leaving.
"Hey Princey."
Roman let out a yelp and quickly turned around. It was only Virgil, laughing his head off at Roman's reaction. Feeling his face go red, Roman smoothed down his robes.
"Hi Virge. What do you want?"
"One of your friends said that you wanted to ask me something? Think they were called.... Alex?"
Roman gritted his teeth, cursing Alex. "Yeah, just not now." He muttered before walking towards the Gryffindor table with every intention to strangle Alex.
"Heya Roman. Why're you so angry?" Alex asked innocently, barely containing a laugh.
"You know exactly why." Roman growled. Alex laughed.
"Hey, I was only helping you out. Besides, Janus told me that you've already done something similar." All the smile was gone from Alex's voice by the end of the sentence.
"At least he actually likes you back! I can't tell with Virgil. He doesn't blush like other people do!"
"Wrong!" Janus chimed in. "Both me and Remus knew that he liked you before he even admitted it. You've got more than a chance of him saying yes."
Roman laughed slightly, putting his head in his hands. "Why am I the one being reassured? I should be doing the reassuring! I'm competent in romance so why is this so difficult all of a sudden?"
Alex shrugged.
"Well, maybe you've never actually been in love before."
"What? Janus are you sure you're alright? I'm flipping Romeo, falling in love with everyone!"
"Yeah but, if we're going by the story of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo thought he was in love with the other girls but then he met Juliet. He had only been in love once and his first real love was Juliet. Maybe it's the same with you." Janus said, tapping his chin with a pencil.
Roman blinked slowly at Janus. "Okay, you need to stop reading Shakespeare." He said before getting up. "Right, I'm going to go grab my money bag. See you in Hogsmead."

Virgil was sitting by the Great Lake when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Heya Kiddo!" A voice said, the owner sitting down beside him. "You probably don't remember me, I'm-"
"Patton, yeah." Virgil smiled slightly, throwing rocks at the Great Lake. "He told me about you. Also, I've seen you around."
Patton smiled slightly before looking out at the Lake. "It's not true, you know. Whatever he told you about me, it's not true. He wasn't cheating on me, I just received the same treatment as you." Patton forced a laugh. "Change your look, don't hang out with your friends, find out your supposed boyfriend is a homophobic. It's not fun."
Virgil sighed. "How did you get through it? I can't even say his name for fear but here you are, all bubbly and happy and kind. How do you do it?"
Patton smiled slightly. "I met one of my best friends and the love of my life."
"Logan, right? You and him are together, aren't you?"
Patton nodded, smiling brightly. "Yep, I met Logie. And you'll meet someone like that too. Someone who you'll want to spend the rest of your life with."
Virgil nodded and smiled slightly. "Perhaps I already have." He muttered, thinking of a certain Gryffindor. Patton nodded knowingly.
"He likes you, you know." He muttered to Virgil. "You've got nothing to fear from him. Come on. Can't be late for Hogsmead!" He stood up and offered Virgil his hand. Virgil took it and stood up.
"Let's go!" Patton yelled, running off and pulling a laughing Virgil behind him.

When the group of four (Roman, Virgil, Logan and Patton) got to Hogsmead, they split up. Logan and Patton went to Honeydukes on Patton's request and Virgil and Roman went to find Virgil a new sketchbook.
"You found something yet, Virge?" Roman asked, spying Virgil looking at yet another sketchbook. Virgil shook his head.
"Oh, I like this one." He said, picking up a black sketchbook with a purple rose inked on the front. Turning it around to look at the price, he shook his head and put it back on the shelf.
"What's wrong with it? You seemed to like it a second ago." Roman asked, picking the sketchbook up.
"It's 18 Galleons."
"Did Harry Potter sign it or something?!" Roman asked disbelievingly. Virgil shrugged.
"It's ridiculous for a sketchbook, I know. I'll find something else. I've only got 5 Galleons and 7 Sickles." Virgil said, taking the book from Roman and putting back on the shelf. As he went off to find a new sketchbook, Roman got an idea.
"Roman what the Hell?! I haven't gotten a new sketchbook!" Virgil yelled at Roman who had just dragged him out of the shop.
"Actually, you do." Roman said, sheepishly presenting Virgil with the black sketchbook. Virgil's grey eyes went wide.
"How could you afford this?" Virgil breathed. Roman laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
"My family is uncomfortably rich. Least I could do." He muttered, handing Virgil the sketchbook. Virgil's eyes shone as he traced the purple rose with his finger.
"Thank you, Roman." He breathed.
"You're welcome, Virge." Roman smiled at Virgil's awed expression. Should he ask him now? Before he could decide, Patton rounded the corner, carrying a huge bag of Honeydukes sweets and dragging a blushing Logan behind him.
"Hiya kiddos!" Patton yelled, stopping in front of Virgil and Roman, grinning.
"What's got Logan blushing so much?" Roman asked slyly. Patton giggled and Logan cleared his throat awkwardly.
"I offered to buy Patton some Honeydukes sweets and he.. um..." Logan trailed off, blushing even more.
"Did Patton kiss you?" Virgil asked. Logan nodded and Virgil laughed, much to everyone's surprise.
"Why is that so humorous, Virgil?" Logan asked, fixing his glasses. Virgil didn't answer and kept laughing.
"Sorry. It's just, I assumed that you'd be used to that seeing as Patton is Patton." He said, wiping his eyes.
"Logie doesn't really 'do' affection." Patton said, hugging Logan around his waist. "And that's one of the things I love about him."
Roman groaned dramatically. "Please keep your sickening lovey-doveyness for Valentine's Day!" He said, barely keeping a straight face.
"Come on, Princey. If we're quick, I bet we could bags a table at The Three Broomsticks for all four of us."
"I think Patton and I had better be getting back to the castle. We both have clubs coming up." Logan said, fixing his glasses again.
"Alright. See ya!" Virgil yelled after Patton and Logan as the latter was dragged away again. Virgil turned to Roman. "So, what d'you say? Butterbeers for two?"
Roman flashed a bright smile at Virgil. "Sure."
Roman walked down the main street of Hogsmead, trying to ignore the fact that Virgil's hand was inches away from his own. Virgil was looking up into the sky, humming and smiling slightly. Roman had to stop looking at him if he wanted his face to stay the same colour. He heard wolf whistles coming from behind him and turned his head.
It was his Quidditch Team, smirking at him. He glared at them and turned back around. Virgil noticed the exchange and laughed.
"Are they expecting you to ask me out or something?"
Roman's eyes went wide with panic and Virgil laughed again. "Relax Princey, I'm kidding."
Roman let out a little laugh that was very forced and rubbed the back of his neck again. Virgil stopped outside The Three Broomsticks but didn't go in. When Roman looked over his shoulder, he saw why.
Daniel was sitting by the door, talking to some of his group. They were laughing about something. Roman looked at Virgil and saw his eyes had filled with tears.
"Come on. We don't want to go there if they allow dicks like him in. Let's go to the Shrieking Shack instead." Roman said softly. Virgil turned to him and smiled, scrubbing at his eyes.
"Yeah, let's."
"Um, can I hold your hand?" Roman asked tentatively. Virgil looked surprised but nodded. Carefully, Roman took Virgil's hand and the preceded to pull him to the Shrieking Shack.

Virgil let go of Roman's hand, very red faced, when they arrived at the Shrieking Shack. He prayed that Roman assumed his face was red from the cold and not from the fact that Virgil was way to gay to think straight around Roman.
"You alright, Virge?" Roman asked, making Virgil curse his red face.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Virgil leaned against the fence separating the Shrieking Shack from Hogsmead. "Wow. I've never been so close to the Shack before. It's beautiful."
"I guess." Roman said, turning his head to try and see what Virgil was seeing. To him, the Shack was black, sad and decrepit but he supposed that some people would find that beautiful.
"I need to draw it!" Virgil declared, getting his new sketchbook and a pencil out. For the next few minutes, there was silence between the pair as Virgil drew the Shrieking Shack and Roman watched the drawing come alive on the page.
"Um, Virgil?"
"Yeah Princey?" Virgil asked, stowing his book and pencil in his robes.
"I, um, wanted to ask you something." Roman cursed himself for being so scared. He took a deep breath. "Iwaswonderingifyouwantedtogooutwithmebutyoudon'thavetoI'msorryforasking!" He said very fast.
Virgil blinked at Roman, processing what he had said. "Are you asking on a date?" He asked slowly.
"Maybe?" Roman squeaked. Virgil smiled at Roman but then looked down sadly.
"I don't know, Princey. Sorry."
"Are you saying no?" Roman asked, feeling his heart shatter.
"I want to say yes, I really do, but how do I know that you won't treat me like he did? How do I know that you won't just toss me aside?" Virgil scrubbed at his own eyes, making Roman's heart break even more.
"Virgil, give me your hand." He said softly before gently taking Virgil's hand in his own. "Can you feel electricity moving up from your hand?" He asked. Virgil hesitated but then nodded. "That's called love, Virgil, and I feel it too. I promise you that I won't treat you like Da-"
"Don't say his name!" Virgil yelled.
"I promise you that I won't treat you like he did. You deserve so much better than what he gave you. He didn't love you. But I do and I want to be with you for the rest of my life."
Virgil looked down at his hand in Roman's. His eyes moved from Roman's hand, up his arm to Roman's face and finally, Virgil looked Roman in the eye.
"I want to believe you, Roman. But I just can't." He muttered before pulling his hand out of Roman's and running away.
Roman sat down on a rock, feeling empty. He knew he should feel something but he just couldn't. Virgil had wanted to go out with him but he was scared. Roman felt his heart shatter even more as he replayed Virgil's pained, tearful eyes in his mind. Suddenly, he was filled with anger. Anger at Daniel. This was all his fault. Roman grabbed a small rock and threw it into the woods. "Fuck! Fuck you, Daniel!" He yelled, startling some nesting birds before he sank back down onto the rock and put his head in his hands. He didn't even realise he'd been crying until his tears dried up.
