In His Arms: Auston Matthews

(Jaycee's P.O.V.)
"Auston, you know that I have my Principles of Biology II midterm in the next couple of days. Unfortunately, my time is dedicated to making sure I ace that test. Plus, your first game is in another country for crying out quietly! I'll at least do my best to watch the game from my dorm room."
I fidgeted with my glasses as I told him this....well, I guess I could call it a kinda truth. The key is when you're trying to remember if you told the truth or not is if at least ten percent of the story is true, then that's the cold hard truth.
I heard Auston sigh and reply, "Okay. But, can I at least interrupt your studying so you can wish me good luck?"
I laughed a little bit, "Sure, but I might be in the library studying at that time. I'll do my best to answer though."
"Well, alright. Wish you could be here."
"I know, Auston, but I'll be there in spirit. Love ya, babe."
"I love you, as well Jaycee."
Once the call ended, I immediately called his teammate, Mitch Marner, and went over my plan to surprise Auston. What kind of a girlfriend I would be, to miss Auston's first game home? That's just wrong on so many levels!
I hear his groggy voice answer with, "Jaycee. Girl, you know it's naptime!"
"Yeah, yeah like Mitchy needs more sleep!" I teased him.
"Did you just hang up with Auston?"
"Yes, and I told him I would be studying for my Bio exam. Too bad he doesn't know that I don't have to take it since I passed my course with an A."
Mitch laughed, "Good job Jay. Alright, so your ticket is under your name at will call. I did it by first name, so that way, it wouldn't look weird. I may or may not have upgraded your seat to be right precisely behind where Auston normally sits."
If my mouth could of hit the floor at this instant, I think I would have been in China by now as I replied, "You did what?"
"Surprise? A surprise for a surprise exchange?"
"Mitchell Marner, you know I was already behind your bench somewhat, just not THAT close!"
I hear some muffled speaking in the background, and Mitch said, "Anything for the young blood here. The flight's about to take off. We'll see you soon, Jaycee. I believe our flights are coming in at the same time, so stay hidden."
"See ya real soon, Mitch. And thanks for all your help."
I then decided to start putting my own separate side of the plan into action. I couldn't wait to see Auston again.

(Mitch's P.O.V.)
I quickly hung up the phone as the "Surprise Victim" himself moped over. Auston looked devastated as the pilot was giving the Leafs the normal speech about how to control the plane if anything drastic were to happen, blah, blah, blah is all I heard.
I look over to see Auston flipping through his pictures of both him and Jaycee in various events. To be completely honest, these two are my relationship goals. Auston taught Jaycee how to ice skate, and Jaycee taught Auston in return how to show certain emotions during interviews. These two have been my goal since day one.
I ask my teammate, "What's on your mind?"
Auston sighed, "Jaycee, she can't make it to the game. I don't know when will I get to see the emerald green in her eyes again."
"It'll be okay, bud. She's, y'know, busy with school and stuff. She loves you, and she will never ever ever leave you. Maybe you can Skype her or something after the game."
"She'll probably still be studying for her exam!"
"Well, at least you're with someone who's really smart. Huh, I'll have to ask her what her IQ is the next time I see her."
"Yeah, except who knows when that will be?" Auston replied, and then he went back to staring out the window of the plane as we flew closer and closer to his new hometown.

(Jaycee's P.O.V.)
It was almost time for the plane to land. They had a game in just a few short hours, and as soon as I looked out the window, I saw the charter flight for the Toronto Maple Leafs right next to the plane I was on. I ducked down, because I saw Auston in his suit. Let me just say he looked fabulous. He had no clue I was there for his first game in his new hometown.
Once I saw the charter plane pulling away from the gate, I gathered my carry-on bag and dashed into the terminal. Hopefully, he wouldn't spot me. I had on my favorite jersey of his from his time with the Zürcher Schlittschuh Club Lions, and he always claimed that whenever I wore that jersey, I always rubbed my good luck on him someway. Whenever he did something good, he always said it was because of how I looked in his jersey.
Now, I get to see him at his new home for the first time in his NHL career. I quickly touch up the makeup on my face that matched my (or Auston's) lucky jersey, black jeans, black boots with heels on them, and I checked to see if the curls in my hair were still present and looked decent. Luckily, they were all there in place.
I hopped on the tram that would lead me to the baggage claim. I made my way to Carousel 34, and I couldn't help but laugh and think that the world is agreeing with this plan. Once I got my blue suitcase, I managed to drag it to a taxi.
"Where would you like to go, Miss?"
"To the Air Canada Centre, if you don't mind."
As the taxi driver helped me load my luggage into the car, I received a text from Mitch.
Boys are at Centre, put luggage in my car.
Thank you. See ya real soon!
I smiled knowing that I would be reunited with Auston in just a few hours. I just knew that tonight was his lucky night. I hope he would be surprised that I was there.
Once the taxi pulled up to the Air Canada Centre, I paid my fare and got my suitcase out of the car. I slowly made my way to Mitch's car, hoping Auston wasn't outside. I saw a person in a suit, and darted over to his car when I heard, "Jay, relax. I had to make sure some weirdo wasn't sticking love notes on my car....again."
"Like anyone would do that, Mitch. I made it, didn't I?"
"What did you pack in here, rocks?"
"Duh, had to bring a souvenir from the States for my favorite friend?"
He laughed and handed me my ticket, "Enjoy, Auston will be first out on the ice tonight."
"Thanks. Score for me tonight?"
"Whatever, Jay."
Mitch then walked inside and I went to the nearest fan entrance. The usher who scanned my ticket complemented me on my jersey and thought that I traveled a long way to get that.
If only she knew....
I thanked her and wandered around the Air Canada Centre and saw all of the sights and sounds there. I made my way down to Section 118, the first row right behind the Leafs bench.
I got there just in time to hear the PA announcer go, "Welcome to the ice, your Torontoooooooooooooooooo Maple Leafs!"
Auston and his teammates sprang out on the ice and started to warm up. As I predicted, Auston in the middle of warm ups came over right in front of me and took a sip of water and stretched a little more. He started to do his normal routine, and then he looked up.
I mouthed out, "Surprise?"
He mouthed out, "Jaycee??"
I waved, and I swear if he could of jumped over the glass to kiss me, I think he would of. Unfortunately, there was sixty minutes of hockey between me being in Auston's arms again.
The puck dropped and the game began with Auston winning the faceoff and driving it past the opposite goaltender to make it 1-0 Leafs.
And I already knew it was going to be a good night. When he scored that goal and was fist-bumping his teammates, he mouthed out to me, "That was for Jaycee."
He ended up scoring one more goal on the night and assisting Mitch's one goal and Auston was named the First Star of the Game. I could tell that he had something else on his mind when he was doing the interview.
As soon as I heard the PA announcer say, "Good night, and good hockey," a security guard escorted me down to the Leafs' locker room.
I stopped near the rest of the wives and girlfriends of the Leafs' players, and they started to stroll out to their family members. Mitch came out, and Auston blew right past him and wrapped me up.
Auston them muttered, "I thought you had a midterm?"
"It was earlier today online, I did it on the way here."
"Why....why did you trick me?"
"Because, I wanted to spend a few days with the best boyfriend in the world."
He started to slowly kiss me and a smile danced across both of our faces. We eventually stopped, because needless to say, Mitch was repulsed by the two of us. Auston started to turn red and so did I. We started to head out to Mitch's car so I could grab my luggage, and Auston held my hand the whole time.
Auston asked me as he grabbed my luggage, "Do you have a place to stay, Jaycee?"
"Yes."
He looked at me shocked, "And where is that?"
I smiled and stared into his eyes, "In your arms."
