Backstory: Maryam was a competitive ballroom dancer during her childhood and teenage years, so she grew up wearing a full face of makeup to every recital and performance. She loved trying out different looks, from red lips to smokey eyes. In high school, she was a student makeup artist for the theatre program. While she nearly chose to pursue a career as a professional dancer, in the end she chose that makeup and beauty was her true calling. When she moved to Vancouver to attend cosmetology school, she started her YouTube beauty channel, Mary Issawi Beauty, which has since amassed over 1 million subscribers. Around the same time she moved to Vancouver, Quinn Hughes was drafted onto the Canucks. Maryam was one of Quinn's first friends in Vancouver, and a little over a year later, that friendship blossomed into something more. The couple has recently celebrated their 1-year anniversary, and are very happy together.
