Dylan Larkin (Detroit Red Wings)

Today was the day. Today was the day me and Dylan find out the gender of our baby. Dylan and I had found out I was pregnant around 4 months ago, and I was almost 5 months along.

We both wanted to find out the gender. I wanted a boy, because I wanted my little girl to have a big brother to protect her like I did. Dylan wanted a boy too, but I think he secretly wanted a girl to be his little angel.

We wanted to have a gender reveal party, so our doctor put the gender on a slip of paper and put it in an envelope, which I gave to my sister who was organizing it.

Our plan was, we were gonna get a puck filled with whatever color, pink or blue, and Dylan would slap shot it and it would explode the color of the gender baby we were having. It was cheesy, but Dylan wanted to do the classic "cut the cake and reveal the color." Id take my idea over his cheesy and cliche idea any day. Mine was just cheesy.

People starting coming into our house at around 4 o'clock. My sister had set up the party, but wanted to have it at our house because we had a big backyard and she didn't. I was dressed in a grey t shirt dress with a flannel around my waist with Birkenstocks.

It was very comfy, which was all I really cared about at this point. It was a warm summer day in June, so I could comfortably wear a dress without shivering. Dylan came down in a short sleeve collared shirt and khaki shorts, wearing his "dad flip flops" as he called them.

"Don't you look beautiful." He told me, kissing me on the forehead. I smiled and blushed. I had been with Dylan since we were 13 and he still makes me blush like he did when we were in junior high. I walked over to the cooler and grabbed myself a water, sitting down on a chair by the side of our pool, where I saw some of Dylan's teammates kids splashing around.

I leaned back in the chair and sighed in relief. I had been on my feet all day, and they were so unbelievably swollen. The only shoes I fit in anymore were flip flops. Dylan came up and saw me rubbing at my feet. He frowned at me. He always felt bad whenever I was sick or had swollen feet.

But I didn't mind. I was bringing a beautiful baby into the world. He sat at the edge of my chair and took one foot in his hand, setting it on his lap and rubbing it slowly. I wanted to cry it felt so good. I was so lucky to have him.

"Thank you babe, that feels amazing." I told him and he smiled at me. "Anything for you, my love." He said sweetly and I smiled. "Have we decided on a name for a boy or girl yet?" He said after a few minutes of silence.

"I thought we decided on a boy's name but not a girl's yet." I told him. "So we're for sure going with Davis Andrew if it's a boy?" He asked and I nodded, smiling. Davis was the name of my twin brother. He was alive for 4 minutes, but the cord was wrapped around his neck and they couldn't save him.

"What about a girl?" He asked me and I shrugged. "I picked the boy, you pick the girl." I told him and he nodded. It was silent for a bit, he was thinking. "Savannah Claire." He said out loud and I smiled. "I love it. Savannah Claire it is."

Soon enough, it was time for the big reveal. I was extremely nervous but excited. I was really hoping for a boy, so I'm hoping it explodes blue but I would love a girl just as much as well.

Henrik set the puck in front of Dylan and Anthony Mantha handed him a stick. He looked at me and smiled and took a deep breath. He hit the puck and it exploded blue. I burst into tears and so did Dylan.

I wrapped him in a hug and rested my head on his shoulder, tears streaming down my face and onto his shirt. "I love you so much." I cried and he kissed my forehead. "I love you so much more." He said and everyone cheered around us. "I'll love you and Davis until the day I die."
