auston matthews // toronto maple leafs

requested by valnentinss

you had been friends with tyson barrie for forever. your families lived right next to each other in victoria, british columbia. you two were practically joined by the hip and he was like your older brother. that was until he was drafted into the nhl and you were still stuck in victoria at high school.

after high school, you began going to university of toronto for sports journalism while tyson was in colorado.

you were beyond excited to hear that tyson was traded to the toronto maple leafs. you were getting your best friend back.

you had got out of university and pretty soon tyson helped you get a job with sportsnet that would give you an opportunity to work in the hockey world you loved so much.

you were very happy with where you were in life.

only a few months later, someone with a big role in the hockey sportsnet crew retired and you were moved into the position. you began to interview a lot of the leafs and other hockey players.

tyson was stoked to have you doing his interviews now. you had to admit it was pretty cool too.

you were getting everything set up for an interview you had with mitch marner and auston matthews.

this was like a toronto journalist's dream to have matthews and marner in the same room to ask questions.

you interviewed the two young players. you saw auston's eyes on you actively almost
the entire time you were talking which made you a bit uneasy.

"alright guys, we're all done." the film crew said from behind the camera.

you smiled at both of them, "thank you for your time. i really appreciate it." you said.

mitch nodded with a big mitch smile, "it was a pleasure. you're my favorite interviewer" he said politely.

you chuckled lightly, "thanks. i try."

auston nodded and carefully took his mic off of himself.

you walked off to take all your equipment off when you felt a hand on your shoulder.

you jumped slightly and then saw auston, "oh hi." you said.

"i didn't mean to scare you." he chuckled and continued, "i just wanted to say you're really beautiful and i was wondering if you'd like to go on a date sometime?" auston asked timidly.

you smiled and nodded, "yeah that sounds good."

auston let a relieved smile flood his face, "okay wow um can i have your number?" he asked.

you nodded and typed your number into his phone.

"thanks." auston blushed lightly.

you smiled at him as he walked away.

you were happy that you had gotten a date with auston but were interested in what sassy things tyson was going to have to say about it.

your phone began to vibrate.

speaking of the devil...

"hey tys." you greeted when you picked up the phone.

"hey arabella. you interested in lunch with me and some of the boys?" he asked you.

your stomach had been grumbling quite a bit.

you shrugged, "sure that sounds good. just tell me where." you said.

tyson sent you the address of the place you were going and you arrived there. tyson was waiting outside the restaurant with a smile.

"i heard you got a date with auston." tyson said as they walked in.

you nodded and chuckled.

"it's funny because i don't think he made the connection that we're friends." tyson chuckled.

you laughed, "are you serious?"

tyson nodded, "he's not the smartest." he joked

you sat down at the table and smiled over at auston who had just looked up.

he smiled back and looked back down before double taking your face with wide eyes. he looked from you to tyson as he made the realization.

tyson laughed, "this is my bestfriend who is the journalist that i always talk about." he said, showing you off, "also known as auston's new date."

auston still looked as if he was in disbelief of what he was seeing.

"out of all of my teammates, you picked auston?" tyson joked with him playfully.

you laughed.

"i didn't know that your journalist bestfriend was hot." auston blurted out.

tyson broke out laughing and tapped your leg. you blushed lightly and chuckled.

"i'm fine with it matts. as long as you're not a dick." tyson told auston with a shrug.

you couldn't help but laugh once more at tyson.

"sir yes sir." auston said.

"i'll help you out with the date aus. just text me." tyson chuckled.

"oh my god tys stop!" you begged with a laugh.

"what? don't you want a good date." tyson asked.

when the date finally happened, auston walked up with your favorite flowers and candy, along with taking you to your favorite restaurant. you knew you had tyson to thank for a lot of it.

even to this day, 2 years into your relationship, tyson still likes to remind you who got you guys together and as much as you hate to admit it, both of you had to thank him for it.
