These New Walls
Wilson
"It's open!" Paul called out, having just finished lecture and letting us have time to read on our own.
And I could really see who it was at first, sitting in the front of the class and all. I figured another teacher or kid from his last hour class needed something.
"Hey," but that voice wasn't a teacher or any kid that I've seen lately. "Do you have a key for the apartment? I uh... Lost mine."
And everyone looks back because there's only two people that can ask that, and there's only one guy.
Percy was standing by the door, now inside the class. His shirt was tattered, his pants were now shorts, his left arm was wrapped up as his sleeve on the side was cut off. His wrists were wrapped, too, but they didn't have any red on them like his upper arm did. He must've gotten cut or something. His hair was a mess, longer than I've ever seen it. His backpack was somehow together.
"I uh, tried to get in but I couldn't find the spare and I couldn't get through to mom's cell phone." He went on to explain being Paul didn't respond, because was you know, in shock. "The school is closer than the bakery is, too. Sorry if I like, completely interrupted your lecture."
Paul looked at him for a second, realizing that he's back.
He's alive!
"What... Don't apologize," Paul insisted. "Come here!"
Paul pulled Percy into a hug and they talked for a little bit, I couldn't really hear what they were saying. But I'm sitting here, just patiently waiting because that's my boyfriend.
I want to see my boyfriend. He's been gone for almost 10 months. It was a solid 9 months.
I missed him.
Paul dismissed class early, it was my last class of the day, so I waited outside the class. Anxious.
He's back.
After a few minutes, Percy came out of Paul's class and he looked over to me and I smiled.
"Welcome back," I told Percy and he smiled in response. I gave him a quick kiss, missing being able to do that. Pulled him into a hug that he returned. "I missed you."
Percy was a little tense, muscle wise. He could use a nice spa day. Maybe we could do something like that this weekend. It is Friday.
"I missed you, too," Percy returned as we just stayed there for a minute. It's been a long time since we've been able to hold each other. It was really lonely for a while. "Aren't you uh... Don't you have class?"
"Paul's class," I clarified as he pulled away from the hug, holding my hand. "So not really. His class is my last one. Um... Are you feeling alright? It's been a long time."
"I'm better," my boyfriend insisted, flashing me a some. " Paul's a mess, I'm sure my mom is worse. Are you alright?"
"Well... Now, yeah,"
He smiled as we started to walk to the subway. Took it back to his place. His mom wasn't home yet, so we had some time to ourselves. He showered, which made a world's difference.
I won't complain about how touchy he was being. It was really nice, especially considering how little I've had physical contact since he's left behind the occasional hug when I'm having a bad day.
So we got to cuddle in his room, which he seemed more than relieved to be back in.
"Where we're you?" I asked him. "Nine months is like... A whole pregnancy. It's a long time."
Percy chuckled.
"It is a whole pregnancy," he agreed with that as he laid down next to me, resting his head on my shoulder. It was sweet. Cute. "You're right there. Um... A lot of places. I woke up somewhere around California with amnesia. Like, knew absolutely nothing. Managed to survive that, went to Alaska like a few months later with some friends I made there. We got back, I got my memory back, managed to call home and tell them where I was, that I was alive and yeah. After that it got weird, went to Greece, came back here."
"Greece?" I asked and he nodded his head. "Dang. I wish I could go there, my dad won't let me, though. Like, some family thing."
To this day, I don't understand why were not supposed to go to Greece or Rome. Like, the gods are in Manhattan.
We should be allowed to go there.
"Family...?" He questioned and gave me a confused look. "Who's your dad?"
"That's a long story."
"Babe, I've been gone for nine months. Every story is bound to be long."
He had a point.
So I kind of thought about it for a minute, because I mean, he's my boyfriend and Annie and Clarisse were coming to hang out later since they're in the city for something, I don't know. But they want to meet my boyfriend. Like, really bad.
"I mean," I started off. "It sounds fucking crazy."
"I promise I've heard crazier."
I looked right at my boyfriend, because there's no going back now. He's good with secrets, though. I do trust him with this.
"Apollo."
And for a second he thought the thought. I know he did.
"Who the fuck names..."
"I mean, like, Apollo." I repeated again. "Technically I'm not supposed to tell you but like... You're good with secrets, right? Plus, it's probably better that you know because I think Annie said she'd finally meet us for dinner with her girlfriend. I think it's her girlfriend. I don't know. If you're up to it, of course. It's a lot to take in and you just got back and it's probably a lot. Annie definitely wants to meet you, though."
Percy looked at me for a second, confused
"Annie?" He questioned. "what....? Babe."
"What?" I asked in returned. "I know it sounds fucked up but—"
"Do you mean Annabeth?" He suggested, working through this, but it didn't make sense that he would know her name. I've talked about her, of course, but I always call her Annie. Everyone there called me Tommy because that's my middle name. Well, Thomas is. But there was already Will, so people just said Tommy. Wilson and Will are different, but yeah. "about a little shorter than me, blond?"
"Why... How do you..."
My boyfriend looked me dead in the eyes.
"Babe," Percy broke the news to me. "I'm a demigod, too."
What are the fucking chances?
"You are!?"
"Yeah!" He confirmed, nodding his head. "That's what was going on with me being gone. Not camp but like... Hera's a worse person the longer you know her. Wiped my memory and like... We could've just talked and negotiated but no, that wasn't an option. So... Yeah. Rachel is the new Oracle! She took over last summer!"
So we talked about camp after that quite a bit. He's the son of Poseidon, which explains a lot.
Like the uncanny amount of monsters we've had at that high school.
It's way too much. But now I know why.
My boyfriend and I are just power couple.
The ultimate power couple.
Even if we're not out too everyone yet.
