Wine-Thief*
Feeding moths
dither around the lavender.
No flight plan
on their random meandering
though they do return to fave destinations,
over and over again.
The lavender's sky-rise-blooms provide
apartment living
for aphids and whiteflies.
White cabbage moths delicate-feeding
draw no more consternation
than would high-rise window washers.
They light-sip once,
twice,
then move on,
enjoy each exquisitely unique vintage
dip uncurled pipette-proboscis
deep
to wine-thief* nectar,
taste-test flower yield and if to sir's satisfaction,
nod and drink.
One connoiseur
has discovered the dwarf diosma,
feathery walks across
swaying, green, asparagus-like-fronds.
Having sip-supped near-full on lavender,
she craves a little dessert
from starry cups -
mmmm, yum - tokay*.
Wine-thief - a glass or food-grade plastic pipette used in the process of wine making to taste-test its progress.
Tokay - delicious fortified wine.
