Heart-breaking dawn
Magpies chortle-warbling on dawn, their
liquid sound a mellifluous sluicing.
Honey-rose of sky having been imbibed
now rivulets from throats - topaz Tokay*.
Kookaburras also affirm sky-claim,
sly Fisher kings* that wound with proffered grail.
You do mistake, I am not your anointed,
far more likely that I be arointed*.
Nor will bees be silenced in their reverent
hum-thrumming and adoring attendance,
their thrill-trimming of crimson-tinseled tree,
winged Magi with more frankincense than me.
All is gilded, glorious and alive
while I lie here - joie de vivre deprived.
I mean Tokay - sweet topaz-coloured wine made from 'noble rot,' that is grapes that have begun to break down on the vine.
Fisher kings - I refer to the legend but also the fact that Kookaburras come from the Kingfisher family of birds. They are indeed the kings of the Kingfisher clan.
Arointed = a reference to Macbeth in which one of the three witches states she was spoken to rudely when she asked for food (chestnuts) 'Aroint thee, witch' though the witch has the last cruel laugh, she raises a wind against the 'rump-fed ronyon' 's husband and sinks his ship. One should be careful about being mean to those of power.
