Cataract
Survived a week, I have; a week I have
survived. You thought me weak, you did; you smiled
that smile, that grin where you believe me flanked
and in that lucid moment, I profiled
your mask, at last, I recognised that smirk,
I wrote of it in verse, blank verse, as blank
as evil eye membraned* for bloody work -
dilating, celebrating as I shrank -
oh, you have duplex retinas, you are
duplicitous, Cronus! You steer the dark
and Dark steers you to wander murk, mirrored*
for ugly work as suits a brutal shark.
...
Finned avatar in search of easy prey,
my vertebrae's no longer your mainstay.
...
*Some sharks have a nictating membrane, or a clear membrane that covers and protects the eye when a shark bites its prey
*shark eyes are equipped with a layer of mirrored crystals located behind the retina.
