Chapter Six * Reflection
Summer has breezed her way into my life and has captured my heart. Is it love? I don't have a damn clue. Am I in lust with Summer? Hell, yeah. No denying that I can't get enough of her body. Just the thought of her smooth skin and voluptuous curves in my capable hands has me hardening.
Shit, I have a meeting in five minutes. Calm the hell down, Rain. That's the thing; whenever I think of Summer, my body reacts this way. I walk around quite a bit with a semi-hard on most of the day.
This foreign feeling has me petrified. I like and don't like the control that Summer has over me. She has no clue. After that night, when she wanted to know what this was between us, she's never brought it up again.
That's another thing that I love, no, like about Summer. Jeez, Rain, quit throwing that word around. It's dangerous and not who I am. Is it who I want to be?
See, this is what I am talking about; Summer is not pushy, clingy, or demanding. These are the main characteristics that have kept me from ever getting serious with a woman. I seriously can't handle that shit.
Summer is entirely different. She makes me question everything about myself in a good way. She has me speculating who I am and who I want to be. I want to be a better man for her because that woman deserves the world. I find myself wanting to give it to her. Unfortunately, I'm the one not worthy of her.
She amused me with her jealousy a couple of weeks back. There's absolutely no reason for her to be jealous. I'm ashamed to admit that I'm so used to women behaving that way around me that I don't even notice it. I'm flirty by nature, and it's served me well in my line of business and charming the ladies into my bed.
My desk phone buzzes. It's Willa, my secretary. Willa has been with me since I moved here five years ago to run the Harrisburg office. She's several years older than me, but still very attractive. She's in her late thirties and has been married for fifteen years. Her twin thirteen-year-old boys drive her out of her mind. I told her more than once that she should write a book based on their shenanigans.
I pick up my line. "Yes, Willa?"
"Mr. Yen had to switch today's meeting time from 3:30 to 5:00. You did not have anything on your schedule, so I adjusted it. He apologizes for the last-minute change, especially on a Friday night."
I sigh, remembering that I was to meet Summer and her friends at McGrath's at 5:30.
Willa senses my hesitation. "Would you like me to call Mr. Yen back and move the meeting to another day?"
"No, this meeting is important. I can't move it. 5:00 is fine." We hang up.
I have to let Summer know that I will be late. Before I get a chance, my phone rings, indicating that I have a phone call. I pick up the line.
"Miss Baxter on line one." Really? What the hell does she want? I reluctantly pick up the line.
I was preparing for my meeting with Yen when my cellphone buzzed with a message. Summer, I smile.
Hey, Rain, Kelsey, and I are heading to McGrath's. Are you still going?
Shit, I forgot to tell her that I was going to be late.
I am, but I am running a little late. I should be there within the hour. Start without me.
She gives me a thumbs-up emoji. She's the best. She doesn't question why I'm going to be late. I walk into my meeting with Yen with a massive smile on my face. That's what my girl does to me.
Wait, my girl? Hell, yes, my girl!
My meeting lasted longer than it needed to. I shot out of there like a bullet. Willa was already gone. The drive is only ten minutes, but I park at Summer's apartment building and walk to McGrath's on pleasant nights.
I walk into the bar, and my eyes go to my woman. She smiles sweetly. Her friends must have noticed her face light up because they both turned to look at me and stand. Three sets of eyes watch me walk over to the table, but I only had eyes for one set of sky blues. Tim, I'm assuming, reaches his hand towards me, forcing my eyes away from Summer.
"Hello, sorry I'm late. I'm Summer's boyfriend, Rain." I looked at Summer's shocked face and gave her a cocky smirk.
Her friend, Kelsey, looks as if she's watching a tennis match as her eyes bounce back and forth from me to Summer.
"You must be Kelsey. It's a pleasure to meet you. Summer talks highly of you and your friendship."
Kelsey is speechless until Tim nudges her with his elbow. "Yeah, uh, yeah, it is nice to finally meet the man that has my girl happy and smiling every day."
I glance at Summer as her cheeks fill with that rosy pink that I have come to adore. I reach her and pull her into a firm embrace. Her silky, golden hair brushes my cheek.
"Hello, Babe. I'm sorry that I'm late." I brush my lips against hers. I don't miss her shiver at my touch. God, I love how her body reacts instantly to mine. I feel myself twitch, reminding me that she has the same effect on me.
Gus brings me my regular icy Heineken along with another round for the table. I swear that this bar has the coldest cooler in all of Harrisburg and possibly its surrounding area.
A half an hour later, Tim and Kelsey have to leave to go home to their three girls. Kelsey pretty much shot questions at me the entire time we were together. I get it. She wants to make sure that I'm not a serial killer. I like that Summer has a friend that cares about her so much. Summer calls Kelsey Mother Bear, and I now see why.
I insisted on taking care of the bill. I convinced Tim that it was the least that I could do after messing up our get-together. Summer and I walk out with them and say our goodbyes. After they leave, I take Summer's hand and begin walking to her building.
Summer bumps me with her shoulder. "Boyfriend, huh?" I knew that she would mention my introduction the second that we were alone.
I squeeze her hand. "I'd like to be."
"Really?"
I flash her my best smile. "Really. It's all your fault. You're too damn irresistible."
"I was going to introduce you as my sex god, but my boyfriend is nice, too."
"Sex God!" I laugh, this girl. "We'll discuss our titles because I sure as hell like the sound of Sex God, and you could be Sexy Goddess."
She stops, looks up, and bats her luscious lashes at me. "I kind of like boyfriend and girlfriend." The way she is looking at me with those big blue eyes hardens me immediately.
"Come on. We need to celebrate." I am practically dragging her sexy ass to her apartment.
"What do you have in mind?"
"What don't I have in mind?"
