Old Enemy

"Natasha, I know you want to keep them safe, but we can't just keep them away forever!" Falcon argued as Natasha stormed away from him.

"Try me." Natasha retorted without looking back.

"They're a part of our team now. With Peter, Tony, and Steve retired and Thor back in Asgard, we need all the help we can get." Falcon continued as he chased after the furious red-head.

"We can handle it!" Natasha snapped as she abruptly stopped storming away to glare at Falcon.

"We need someone to take the smaller jobs, like watching over the city while we hunt down the bigger threats." Falcon pointed out.

"That's what the Shield agents are for." Natasha countered.

"We can't just say they're on the team and not let them do anything! Look, I know it was rough suddenly losing Wanda-"

"Don't you dare talk about her." Natasha warned in low tone that made Falcon fall silent for a moment.

"I'm sorry, but you know the Shield agents can't be everywhere at once, especially since most of them are helping us with the bigger missions." Falcon persisted gently, his tone softer.

Natasha sighed as her gaze dropped to look at her black combat boots before she reluctantly looked back up at the him.

"What did you have in mind for them for a first mission?" Natasha asked warily.

"Nothing too extreme, just a quick patrol around the city." Falcon promised soothingly.

Natasha considered his proposition, running a hand through her fiery hair in contemplation as she weighed her options.

"I guess I don't have much of a choice anyway, now do I?" Natasha replied curtly.

"So...is that a yes?" Falcon frowned in confusion.

"Yes, now get a hold of them and see if they can come to New York." Natasha instructed before walking off.

"I hope they're ready after their three months of training." Natasha muttered under her breath before striding into her room.

Falcon retreated to his own room and activated his computer, pulling up Skype so he could contact the group.

"Okay, it's about time you guys had your first mission." Falcon announced to the new avengers once they all picked up.

"Really? Awesome!" Felix exclaimed excitedly as he ran laps around his room.

"I-uh, okay I guess." Robin stammered in surprise, caught of guard by the suddenness.

"I'm in." Mark nodded assuringly.

"Me too!" Tyler chimed in from next to Mark.

"What about Sean though?" Felix interjected.

"I didn't call him since he clearly said that he didn't want to be involved in this." Falcon explained patiently.

"Can we ask him anyway? Please?" Mark pleaded, flashing Falcon his best puppy dog eyes.

"Fine, I'll call him." Falcon conceded with an eye roll as he called Sean, waiting for him to pick up.

"Hello?" Sean frowned as his face appeared on screen, his brown hair messy and shirt wrinkled.

"Hey Sean, sorry to bother you, but your friends are wanting you to come over here and join them on their first mission." Falcon told him.

"C'mon Sean, it'll be fun!" Mark promised.

"Yeah, we're gonna fight crime and stuff!" Felix cheered happily.

"Besides, we miss you and want to hang out more." Tyler added.

"Hang on, what's the mission?" Sean sighed, wearily rubbing his eyes.

"I'll brief you on it once you all arrive at Avengers Mansion." Falcon stated.

Sean hesitated as he considered his options, glancing behind him at his closed door as he thought about Signe.

"Fine, I'm in. Just make sure it's quick and nothing too dangerous since I promised Signe that I'd eat breakfast with her once she woke up." Sean huffed in defeat.

"Awesome! I'll pick you all up via Quinjet, then we can go from there." Falcon nodded before ending the call to let the heroes get ready.

Felix opened his closet and delicately removed his uncle's old suit, running his hand along the smooth fabric as memories of stories his mom had told him about Pietro came flooding back.

Robin reached under his bed and pulled a sleek black suitcase out, hesitantly opening it to reveal his suit he hadn't touched since his last fight.

Mark quickly donned his suit that Tony had tailored for him as a partner gift, the appearance similar to Steve's, but allowed him to have super strength like him.

Tyler was able to find his suit in the basement he had created just for his tech, opening the display case for the silver suit before slipping it on.

Sean retrieved his suit from the pocket on the ceiling he had made for it out of web, taking a deep breath to steady his nerves as he slipped the mask on before darting outside through the window.

Falcon picked up each teen individually, stopping at Mark's house before going to Felix's, then Robin's, and lastly Sean's.

"Alright listen up, you're all starting off with a simple patrol around the city once we get there in about twenty minutes. You can split up or stick together, it's your call. Just make sure you all can contact each other if something goes wrong. If any of you need serious help, call me." Falcon instructed as he put his number into each of their phones.

"Okay. I'll go north with Tyler, Sean will go west, Felix will go east, and Robin will take south." Mark commanded.

None of the others complained about the plan.

"You're so much like your Dad." Falcon smirked in amusement while Mark straightened up in pride.

"He's exactly like his dad." Sean agreed.

"Except for the fact that he cusses like a sailor." Felix snickered.

"No I fucking don't!" Mark argued, earning more laughter from the group.

"Okay, maybe a little." Mark mumbled sheepishly with a small shrug as his face burned a light red hue in embarrassment.

"Alright, everyone ready?" Falcon asked the group.

They all nodded eagerly except Sean, who still felt on edge about the whole mission despite its simplicity.

"Everyone take a parachute and hop out when you're ready." Falcon told the five, gesturing to the parachutes in the back of the jet.

Sean and Tyler were the only two that didn't grab a parachute, the others strapping theirs on before hopping out of the plane.

Tyler used his suit to dive bomb to the ground like a bomb while Sean let himself free fall, the breeze whipping his hair around wildly.

Just before he hit the streets below, Sean used his webbing to latch onto a corner of a building and swing up.

He did a front flip before landing on the top of the building he had used as an anchor, scanning his surroundings for signs of danger.

Felix easily ran through all of his designated search area, finding nothing despite his several searches.

Robin simply walked along the sidewalk with a group of other pedestrians, trying his best to look casual as he kept an eye out for trouble.

Tyler scanned the area in the air with Mark clinging onto his back as an extra set of eyes.

The teens searched the city for what felt like hours, seeing nothing of interest occur much to their relief and disappointment.

"I'm finding nothing." Sean reported to Falcon through a call on his phone, his tone sounding bored laced with sleepiness.

"I got nothing here or in Robin's sector." Felix informed Falcon.

"We're finding nothing suspicious yet." Mark stated.

"This is boring!" Felix complained as he ran with Robin to meet up with Sean.

"I can see why you guys wanted me to come, the whole hero thing seems to be so thrilling for you guys." Sean retorted sarcastically, watching as Tyler landed on the rooftop he was standing on before letting Mark off of his back.

"Something's got to turn up eventually." Mark interjected hopefully to raise everyone's spirits.

"You mean like that?" Felix asked as he pointed up at the sky.

The others followed his finger to see a black figure with wings racing across the sky, the engines on the wings faintly audible.

"I think that's just Falcon." Tyler grumbled in disappointment.

"I don't think Falcon robs banks though." Robin frowned, noticing the bank with alarms blaring as police attempts to chase the figure in the air.

"Finally, something to do!" Felix exclaimed in joy as he ran down the side of the building with Robin, Mark climbing back into Tyler's back before he took off while Sean shot a web at a different building so he could swing across the city.

As Tyler got closer, he could see that the figure was wearing a black mask so their features were hidden, the wings painted black.

"Why would someone rob a bank in broad daylight?" Tyler wondered aloud as he flew towards the criminal.

"Some greedy nutcase that loves prison I guess." Mark mused with an uncertain shrug.

Before Tyler could react, the figure turned around and boosted towards Tyler and Mark, slamming them into a building with enough force to make them fall out of the sky.

"I got them!" Robin yelled as he used his powers to stop their descent, carefully lowering the unconscious heroes to the ground while Felix continued running after the figure.

"Oh that's fucking it bitch!" Sean shouted as he used a web to grab onto his foot, slowly crawling up the web to him.

The person tried shaking them off to no avail, unable to make him let go as he made his way up.

"Who are you?!" Sean demanded as the villain turned their head to look at him.

"You." They growled in recognition, swiping a dust towards Sean.

Sean ducked under it and tried ripping the mask off, nearly losing his grip on his web.

"Hold on!" Felix cried desperately, frantically running up the side of the building so he could help.

"I'll see you again Parker." The figure snarled before severing the web as he flew over the ocean, flying away before Sean could latch on again.

Sean closed his eyes as he prepared for pain, hoping it wouldn't be as bad as he thought it might be.

His eyes quickly flew open when someone abruptly caught him, ending his fall.

"You know, when I said I wanted to see you more, this isn't what I meant." Peter joked, using his own webs to swing them back into the city.

"W-but I thought you were done with the hero thing!" Sean stuttered in shock.

"I am, but that doesn't mean I ignore saving people every once in awhile." Peter shrugged.

"Woah, it's nice to see you again Spider-Man." Felix grinned as he ran up to the two.

"Please, call me Peter." Peter corrected him, letting go of Sean.

Robin awkwardly waved as he met up with the others, Mark and Tyler finally awake again.

"So, do you normally like to jump off of buildings into the ocean for fun when I'm not around?" Peter teased.

"No, we were chasing this bad guy that had black wings-"

"Wait, did they have a black mask?" Peter interrupted, his tone serious.

"Yeah." Tyler chimed in.

"Never fight the Vulture on your own, he's very dangerous and could've killed any of you." Peter told the teens sternly.

"Oh, uh, okay." Sean lied, knowing that catching Vulture would be the best way to guarantee Signe's safety.

"Good. Now have fun and say hi to the rest of the team for me." Peter smiled before swinging away, leaving the five alone at the edge of the water.

Robin called Falcon and had him bring them all back home, lying when he asked if they had seen Vulture.

As soon as Sean was dropped off, he snuck inside the house and locked himself into his recording room, pretending to be working on a video after changing into his clothes he had left in the room earlier.

"Good morning babe, ready for breakfast?" Signe called out from the other side of the door.

"Breakfast would be great." Sean replied, hiding his suit before leaving the room.
