Fight and Flight

"You got a nice house." Mark remarked politely as he stepped inside with Sean, the adults ahead of them.

"Thanks, my parents haven't really changed it much since I left for college." Sean mused as he closed the door behind him, the adults disappearing into the kitchen.

"You wanna go to my room and game?" Sean asked Mark eagerly.

"Sure!" Mark replied, equally excited as he followed him upstairs.

"What should we play?" Sean asked Mark as they entered the room.

He felt a wave of nostalgia wash over him when he saw his old room, everything left in the exact same place they had been when Sean left.

"We cold always do an online game with Bob and Wade." Mark suggested as he sat down on the bed, Sean going to his desk in the corner.

"So, how's college going?" Mark asked as Sean set up a game the four could play on his computer.

Sean froze while typing, guilt flashing across his features for a brief moment before he plastered on a fake smile.

"It's not going so bad." Sean lied, keeping his eyes glued to his work.

"How about you?" Sean countered, wanting to get the attention off of himself.

"It's been fine, but kinda boring...I wish I could just play video games for a living." Mark sighed wistfully.

"Dude, That would he amazing." Sean nodded.

"I'll ask my dad if you can borrow the computer in his study." Sean offered as he got up and walked towards the kitchen.

He hesitated when he heard Peter and Steve whispering to each other in low tones, their voices tinged with concern.

"...the cure will work, we don't need to go to extreme measures like that!" Peter hissed in protest.

"You've been working on this cure for years with no progress, just because you're working on it with Iron-Man instead of Reed  doesn't change anything. I can't just wait around for some miracle cure and risk people I care about getting hurt." Steve replied calmly.

"Just stop trying to be a god damn hero for once Steve!" Peter snapped, raising his voice slightly in frustration.

"Language. Besides, they'll hear you." Steve warned.

"Doesn't matter, I know Sean's listening from the hall." Peter huffed in irritation.

Sean felt a twinge of guilt for eavesdropping as he meekly entered the kitchen with his gaze fixated to the floor to avoid a look of disappointment from his dad.

"What did you hear?" Peter inquired firmly, his tone holding a certain coldness Sean had never heard him use before.

"I-I heard you guys argue and then you told Steve to stop being a hero." Sean stammered quietly, a part of him wishing he had heard the entire conversation.

He opted to not mention hearing Iron Man being mentioned in case he would get in trouble.

"Good. Now go back upstairs and get Mark, we're going on a trip to see someone." Peter instructed, his tense body relaxing slightly.

Sean darted up the stairs and told Mark what he had heard, hoping he would understand what they were talking about.

"I don't know what they're talking about, but it must be bad if it's made your dad so upset and snap at my dad." Mark muttered thoughtfully.

"C'mon boys, hurry it up!" Steve yelled up the stairs, causing the two to exchange glances before jogging down the stairs.

The boys followed their parents to Steve's car and climbed into the back, the two thinking up different theories for where they could be going.

Sean gaped in awe when the car pulled to a stop at the old Avengers Tower, Mark looking more uneasy than excited.

"C'mon, we're going to have a chat with Tony." Peter told the teens as he got out of the car.

Sean scrambled outside and looked up at the massive building, wishing he was an Avenger as he followed his dad inside with Steve and Mark reluctantly following.

"No no no, the equipment goes over there you idiots!" One man snapped at another guy holding a box of spare parts.

"Hey Happy, how're you doing?" Peter asked with a smile as he greeted the worker with a handshake.

"It's great to see you again Peter." Happy replied with a grin.

"Have you seen Tony around here? I need to have a quick chat with him." Peter asked.

"Yeah, he's been flying the leftover stuff from here to the new base." Happy told him.

"There he is." Happy announced as he pointed to a gold and red flash that streaked towards them before landing in front of them.

"Hey there Spidey." Iron-Man greeted Peter as he removed the mask.

"Steve." Tony nodded in acknowledgment at the other man.

Steve wordlessly nodded back, his gaze stoic.

"Hey, I came to talk to you about the cure thing." Peter told him, interrupting the awkwardness.

"Right, follow me." Tony instructed as he led them away from the others.

"It's been awhile since I've been here. It looks so much emptier now." Steve remarked as he looked around.

"What was up with the whole silent treatment thing, I thought you guys made up?" Sean spoke up.

"We did, but things are still...complicated between us. Apologies don't bring back dead parents or fix fights to the death." Steve sighed.

"Guys, I just got word that the new Avenger's base is being attacked!" Peter explained as he ran up to them.

"Where'd Tony go?" Steve frowned.

"He's on his way there." Peter explained hastily.

"Wait, what's attacking then though?" Mark interjected.

"The Venom symbiote." Peter stared grimly.

"Take the Quinnjet, it's the fastest way there." Happy told the group as he gestured to the jet parked outside on the balcony, tossing Steve the keys.

"C'mon!" Steve urged the group, sitting in the pilot's seat much to Peter and Mark's disappointment as they sat down and buckled up.

"Manhattan here we come." Steve muttered as he started the her and took off in the air like a bullet, speeding towards the Avenger Mansion.
