Um… what the heck was going on? 

“What is going on up here?” My mother exclaimed as she came up from the basement. She took one look at the situation before her concerned face broke out with a smile. She shook her head and crossed her arms. “You boys will never stop will you?” she asked with a laugh and a shake of her head. The boys looked at her with sheepish expressions “Sorry” they said with hidden smiles adorned on their faces.

I pouted and crossed my arms when my mom laughed. “It’s quite alright boys just keep it down next time okay? I don’t need my baby girl losing her voice alright?” my mouth dropped open. That’s it? That’s all she’s going to say? They just about gave me a heart attack and she just tells them to keep it down!? 

Where is the justice in that?

“Yes Ma’am” they chorused out in unison, Xavier was giving me a smirk while his eyes held victory in them. I glared at my mom and she laughed at my expression “Shaylee don’t take it so hard, boys will be boys” was all she said before making her way back down the stairs. The boys instantly started laughing as I gaped at her retreating form. 

Now of course the teasing began.

“Oh my god did you see her face!?” Trevor laughed out his face turning red from his lack of oxygen as he laughed. Connor nodded his head in agreement “It was totally worth it man! The way she jumped onto Xavier! Pure gold!” he bit back as he wiped the laughter from his eyes. I glared great! Even Connor thought this was funny, so much for being my knight in shining armor. 

Stupid jerks.

“Argh! You guys are jerks!” I moaned as I pressed myself further into the couch. That was weird… when did the couch get muscular… and warm?  And when could the couch wrap its arms around you? I moved my head back up and I immediately blushed when I saw Xavier’s face hovered over mine with a smirk plastered on his flawless face. 

This just caused Trevor and Connor to laugh even more.

I put my hands on my face and groaned “This isn’t funny!” I felt Xavier’s form shake as he too started to laugh. “It is princess and it gets even better, we have it all on video” he whispered in my ear. My eyes popped out of my head and my mouth gaped open. 

They had it… on… tape?

My life is over. 

“What! How?” I squealed out as I tried to get out of his grip. Which didn’t work by the way, his arms only tightened their hold around my waist. I huffed and crossed my arms waiting for him to explain. “I have the camera right here sis” Trevor said as he waved the small silver device at me from his place on the ground. I glared as I saw the masks that were thrown on the ground because of their laughter.

Trevor and Connor stood up and came to sit on either side of Xavier since I was still trapped in his grip. I blushed when I realized I was practically straddling Xavier so I turned around and just sat on his lap since he wouldn’t let me go. My face continued to turn red as they pressed play and forced me to watch. 

There I was sitting on the couch with an expression of pure terror on my face while Xavier sent a text on his phone. Then of course the stupid ending of the movie came and a scream erupted from my throat, which only intensified once Trevor and Connor burst through the door moments later. It felt like my face was on fire as the next part started to play.

I screamed bloody murder and practically threw myself on Xavier’s laughing form. I then proceeded to clutch onto his leather jacket and bury my face in his jacket. I looked at Xavier’s face and it held pure and utter triumph. His arms wrapped around my form and Trevor had stopped the tape there. I groaned in embarrassment and tried squirming out of Xavier’s grip. 

Key word is tried.

“Let go of me you jerk!” I said angrily as I tried to get out of his grip. Finally he let me go and I stood up and glared at the three laughing boys. This was so embarrassing! I huffed and walked away towards the basement. “Mom I’m going home!” I yelled down the stairs before walking to the front door. 

I didn’t even glance at the laughing boys as I opened the front door and slammed it as hard as I could. “Stupid jerks” I mumbled under my breath as I walked towards my house. Light suddenly poured out into the dark night and I knew the door was open. “Aw Shay come on don’t be like that it was just a joke!” Trevor called out. I ignored him and trudged to the door; I reached into my pocket to grab my keys and groaned when I realized something.

I didn’t have pockets I was wearing a dress and I left my keys on the dresser in my room. With a scowl on my face I trudged my way back to The East house and opened the door with a frustrated growl. Trevor, Xavier and Connor all smirking at me from the couch I have to say it was slightly unnerving to have all three of them looking at me. 

“What are you doing back here baby sis?” Trevor asked as I went to go sit on the loveseat. I crossed my arms and glared at them “I forgot my keys at home” I said to him. Trevor grinned and reached into his pocket “I have mine right here” he said while waving them in front of me. “Let me guess your not giving them to me?” I said in an annoyed tone. Trevor grinned and nodded “Right on the dot. The four of us have been reunited might as well celebrate” he told me.

I scoffed “You guys are like five year olds, you saw Connor a couple months ago! You guys spent spring break together!” I said with a pointed look. Trevor shrugged and didn’t say anything back. Even though I lost touch with Xavier, Connor and Trevor were still best friends they hung out a lot since they both went to the same University. “You guys are jerks” was all I said before taking up the wonderful pastime of staring at the ceiling. 

“Wow Shaylee you really grew up didn’t you?” Connor’s deep voice said making my eyes snap to him. I was still mad so I didn’t say anything and just nodded my head. That’s what happens in four years people grow is what I wanted to say but held myself back. Connor looked like an older version of Xavier, they had the same dark hair and piercing emerald eyes. Connor was just a little bit taller and was just as built as Xavier.

Damn those East boys for being attractive. 

I blew a strand of my hair out of my face and sighed. I just wanted to go home a girl can only take so much embarrassment. “Hey no staring at my little sister Con” Trevor teased. Connor laughed “Don’t worry I have a fiancé remember?” Connor said back. At those words I shot up from my slumped position and stared at Connor with wide eyes. I walked over to them and pointed my finger at his face.

“Did you just say you had a fiancé!?” I asked with shock. Xavier smirked “Ah so now you talk?” he teased. I gave him a look telling him to shut up before rounding on Connor “Who is she and why haven’t I met her? Why didn’t you tell me you jerk? Ah I’m so happy for you!” I squealed before I turned towards Trevor “Why didn’t you tell me you idiot?!” I asked my brother as I smacked him on the head. 

Trevor rubbed his head and glared at me “It didn’t come up” was all he said. I glared and turned towards Xavier “You could have told me too!” I said pointing an accusing finger at him. Xavier shrugged and repeated what my brother said. “It didn’t come up” I sighed and closed my eyes. “You guys suck. Not telling me this important piece of information!” I said before plopping myself on the ground.

Connor laughed “Don’t worry Shay you’re not the last one to know. Only the three of you know I’m going to invite Holly over one day and we’ll announce it together” Connor told me with a small smile. I grinned and jumped on him to give him a hug “Aw you must love her! You look so adorable Con! Congratulations!” I squealed as I gave him a death hug. Connor chuckled before hugging me back. I pulled away and hopped off of him and only now noticed the death glare Xavier was shooting his brother. 

Why he was looking at him like that was a mystery to me.

“I can’t wait to meet her! Is she nice? She better be nice… I don’t like not nice people” I told Connor. He grinned and nodded his head “The nicest and sweetest girl you’ll ever meet. She is beautiful inside and out” he said as a look of adoration came over his face. Connor was 2 years older than Trevor so he was 24. 

“Aw Connor you are so adorable!” I cooed making him blush. Trevor looked at Connor like he had two heads “Dude don’t get all girly on me!” he said with mock disgust but you could see the happiness in Trevor’s eyes. I smacked my brother’s leg “Trevor! Why can’t you get a girl? You should get married and be all adorable like Connor! Then I might actually like you!” I teased giving him a sly smile.

Trevor gave me a mock glare. “No way! I am not going to be tied down, there are just too many hot sorority girls out there…” he trailed off getting a wolfish grin on his face. I made a face and smacked his leg again “Dude you are just like Xavier sometimes I wonder how you two aren’t brothers” Connor said with a shake of his head. 

“Hey!” Xavier and Trevor said together as they gave Connor a glare. I laughed as they started to bicker and all anger from before seemed to have melted away. These were the times I missed, the four of us together laughing and having a good time.

These were my boys and even though they made me so peeved off I loved them to death and I was glad we were all together again. Even Xavier, yes he was my childhood enemy but without him things wouldn’t be the same. I didn’t like how he was the cause of all my humiliation but the times we did get along were nice. Suddenly Xavier turned to me and I saw the evil glint in his eyes, oh no what was he going to do? 

“So Shaylee why don’t you tell your brother what we were up to today?” Xavier commented with a smirk and a very suggestive look in my direction. He just had to ruin it didn’t he?

“XAVIER WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY POOR INNOCENT SISTER?!” Trevor yelled out as he pointed an accusing finger at the two of us. I groaned and shot Xavier a glare “What the hell dude already?” Connor said with wide eyes but the grin on his face told me he knew what was going on. 

Damn him.

“WE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING!!!” 

“Aw come on babe don’t be embarrassed…”

“XAVIER!!!!!” 

And we’re back to hating.

* * * * * *

“Oh Paula it was wonderful seeing you, tomorrow you guys are coming to our house got it?” my mom said with a happy smile as she hugged Mrs. East. She of course returned the hug with just as much enthusiasm and was all too happy to agree. “Wonderful idea!” she replied before turning towards me. “Oh Shaylee darling I was wondering if you could show Xavier around tomorrow. School is starting in a couple weeks and I don’t want my baby to be lost around the town and school. You don’t mind do you?” Mrs. East asked me with a pleading smile on her face. 

I inwardly groaned how was I supposed to say no to her? She treated me just like a daughter, I couldn’t do that to her. So of course I plastered a happy smile on my face and said with as much enthusiasm as possible “I would love to Mrs. East! What a wonderful idea!” my teeth were clenched as I gave her a stiff hug. “Now Shaylee you are like a daughter to me you know you can call me Paula” she said with a grin before turning to give Trevor a hug.

I let the smile drop from my face and I turned towards Connor “It was great seeing you again Con. I’ll talk to you later” I said with a smile and hugged the oldest East sibling. Connor returned the hug before pulling away and saying “Definitely”. I shook Mr. East’s hand before my mother pushed me in the direction of Xavier “Don’t forget him sweetheart” was all she said. It took everything I had not to glare in her direction. 

Things got really awkward after that stupid comment he made. I spent the rest of the evening convincing my brother Xavier and I didn’t do anything. I mean seriously we just met… or rather re-met! I wouldn’t do that with a stranger… well I guess you can’t really count Xavier as a stranger since I have known him all my life but then again we haven’t spoken in four years so wouldn’t that make him a stranger…

Argh my brain hurts now; I’m just going to leave him as undecided. 

I sighed as I gave Xavier a hug before quickly pulling away so he couldn’t pull me tight against him. “I’ll come by at 10:00am alright princess?” he asked giving me a questioning look. Before I could answer my father cut in with a laugh “If she’s up by then, you might have to come and wake her up. Shaylee love’s her sleep” he said causing everyone else to laugh.

I flushed a bright red before turning to my dad “Daaad” I said covering my face with my hands. Why am I always the one to be embarrassed? 

He chuckled before ruffling my hair which caused me to frown further as I proceeded to fix it. “Sorry sweetheart but you know it’s true.” His eyes held so much mirth as he made fun of me before my mother pulled him out of the house and chastised him about teasing me.

Once my parents left Xavier’s parents said goodnight and went upstairs. When they left Xavier chuckled and I turned towards him with a questioning look “Is that so? Maybe I’ll come over and get you out of bed. How does that sound Shay?” he asked with a grin. I rolled my eyes “That’s okay I’ll be up don’t worry about it” I told him as I started to walk out the door. As I left with Trevor I could swear I heard some one say “We’ll see” before the door was closed. 

It had to be my imagination… right?

Once I reached my room I quickly closed the curtains so we didn’t have a repeat of today. My cheeks flushed as I remembered what Xavier said about catching me changing. I was so used to not having anyone in that room that I forgot that new neighbors meant that the room could be occupied. 

I sighed at my stupidity.

I grabbed my pajamas which consisted of short shorts and an old shirt of Trevor’s. Then I walked to the bathroom and stripped out of my dress and put on my pajamas and quickly washed my face before sluggishly walking to my bed. I was beat and all I wanted was sleep so I plugged in my phone and snuggled with my teddy under the covers. 

Just as I was about to fall asleep my phone beeped and I silently groaned. I sat up and grabbed the thing from the table and had an idea of who it could have been from.

Xavier. 

Surprise, surprise oh that was sarcasm by the way.

Xavier- The sexiest man alive: Goodnight Shay don’t forget to wake up bright and early tomorrow for our date so I don’t have to wake you up. ;) 

I was so tired that I didn't process that he used the word date and I couldn’t even think of a snarky remark back so all I said was a simple “Whatever” before turning off my phone and placing it back on my desk. I went back under my covers and I think I was asleep before my head even hit the pillow.

I didn’t realize that I had forgotten to turn on my alarm for tomorrow. 

Big mistake right there.
