Thirteen

Newt was waiting for Thomas on a bench outside of the ice cream parlor. He wasn't sure when Thomas would actually come. If he would come. What if he just wanted to make a fool of Newt? First he kissed him back. Then he didn't talk to Newt when they were at the bakery. A nice "Hello," as a greeting would have been welcomed. Or literally any other sign of friendship would have been nice. Was seeing Tommy again something that he wanted to do?

As Newt was getting ready to text Thomas and cancel, he saw him. The boy looked nervous and he looked at the ground. Newt sighed and put away the phone he hadn't realized he'd pulled out. Did he really not want to see Tommy?

"Hey," Newt heard from above him. He looked up to see Thomas. When their eyes met, Thomas looked away sat down next to Newt. They sat in silence for a long while until Thomas spoke up. "I'm sorry, Newt. I didn't think about it. You shocked me when I saw you. But even though I had a girlfriend, the kiss we shared meant so much and felt so right. Please, forgive me."

Newt nodded. He needed Tommy in his life. Before hearing his words, Newt hadn't realized just how much Thomas made his life better. Not realizing it, Thomas was leaning in and connected their lips. It was sweet and apologetic. The boys spent the rest of the day hanging out. And they may or may not have shared a couple more kisses.

Before Newt had to leave, he knew it was time. "Tommy," Newt started, forcing himself to look at the boy in front of him, "will you be my boyfriend?" Thomas, in response, nodded and pulled Newt into a hug. They stood there for a long while until Newt had to leave.
