Mr Tolliver
[A/N: I know I wrote another oneshot where Tina tells Newt about what happened with Achilles--that hasn't happened in this one & Newt still thinks they're dating]
Newt stood awkwardly at Tina's arm, gazing around at all the aurors who buzzed around the room with importance. He wasn't an auror, of course, but Theseus and Tina had convinced him that he was enough of an important involvement to come to this meeting with them. Tina checked her watch and then glanced up with a smile as a new set of aurors filtered into the room. "Looks like MACUSA's arrived," she said, then frowned as one young man in particular made his way over to them.
"Tina! Are you alright? They've told us a little about the battle--" he glanced at Newt and Tina folded her arms.
"Newt, this is Mr. Tolliver."
"Ah," said Tolliver, extending a hand. "Mr. Scamander."
Newt shook his hand with a slight smile, and Tina remarked to him, "he's not too fond of magical creatures." Why she would tell him that, Newt didn't know. Was she offering some sort of apology on behalf of her partner?
"Look, Teen," Achilles said, his face falling, "I've said I'm sorry about that--"
"Apologizing for a difference in opinions will not resolve them, Mr. Tolliver," Tina said sternly. Newt glanced between the two of them, frowning. Did Tina care that much about magical creatures? He knew he'd enlightened her to their beauty, but would she really go so far as to shun someone for disliking them?
Achilles sighed and put his hand out to Tina with a smile. "Let's put them aside, then, if we can't resolve them. Friends?"
Tina's arms remained folded and her cold stern gaze penetrated the other auror. "I think I'd have some trouble being friends with someone who wants to kill someone I care about," she said flatly. Achilles sighed again and rolled his eyes. "Tina, obviously, I don't wanna kill the kid, I just think that an obscurus is a dangerous thing, especially in the hands of Grindelwald, and that getting rid of it would be the first step to defeating him."
Tina's expression remained unchanged. "It comes down to a matter of priorities, then," she said, then turned to find a seat. "Good day, Mr Tolliver. Newt?"
He offered Achilles half an apologetic smile and then followed Tina to the table, watching her curiously. They sat in silence for a moment, and then Tina turned to find Newt gazing at her admiringly. "What?" she said, and he smiled and furrowed his brow at her. "You've got the worst case of middlehead I've ever seen."
Tina laughed a little and shook her head.
"I thought you were seeing him," Newt added after a moment, and Tina's gaze flicked to him suddenly. "I was," she said, "for a little while. But he's not--" she stopped, breaking her eyes away from Newt and glancing over at the auror in question. "We had irreconcilable differences."
She looked back to Newt again and he smiled. "You might have told me," he said, and she smiled. "When would I have done that, right after you told me you weren't engaged?"
Newt shrugged. "I suppose that would've been a reasonable time," he said. Tina nodded thoughtfully to herself. "I might have, if Leta hadn't interrupted our conversation."
A flicker of pain crossed Newt's face at the mention of the name, but then he said, "I suppose we ought to finish that conversation, then, some time."
Tina opened her mouth to speak but just then a pounding came from the head of the table and the minister called out, "Attention, aurors!"
She glanced at Newt apologetically and he smiled back understandingly. They would have to finish their conversation another time.
[This is kinda trash, I'm sorry, I just wanted a scene with Achilles and wrote this super fast.]
