Just Admit It Already

Newt sat quietly at the breakfast table stirring his tea. The only sounds were his spoon lightly tink!-ing the sides of his mug and the birds outside the kitchen window, singing their good mornings to each other. That is, until there came a thundering from the stairs and Theseus burst into the room with a horrendous amount of energy. "Ah, good morning, Newt!" he said, clapping his brother on the shoulder. "Why so glum, what's on your mind?"
"Tina," Newt replied without thinking.
"Ooohhhh," crowed Theseus, grabbing a mug from his rack, and Newt said, "not like that, I meant--"
Theseus smirked at his stuttering brother as he poured his tea. Newt sighed and scowled at him. "I'm only worried about her," he said, and Theseus sobered a little.
"It's just that, she's always had Queenie," Newt went on, "and now she's all alone."
Jacob sauntered into the kitchen and Theseus laughed at Newt and gestured at Jacob with his mug. "Did you hear that, Jacob, Newt's worried about Tina because he thinks she's all alone!"
"Oh, pal," Jacob began, pulling out a chair to sit next to Newt. "She ain't alone if she has you, is she?"
Theseus clicked his tongue and sat on the other side of his brother. "She'll never be alone so long as you're alive, for even when you're worlds apart, you're irrevocably joined at the heart!" He touched Newt's chest in a dramatic gesture and Newt groaned and placed his head on the table. Jacob sighed heavily and placed a hand on Newt's shoulder. "You poor soul...look what love has done to him!"
Newt lifted his head just enough to protest, "I'm not in love!"
The other two laughed at him hysterically. "Oh no," Theseus said, "Newt? In love?"
"With Tina?" Jacob chimed in, and Theseus gasped and said, "Never!"
"Would you stop?" Newt moaned, and Theseus said, "not until you admit your feelings for her, dearest brother."
"It ain't right to tryta repress such violent emotions," Jacob said, "such passionate desire..."
"Oh, how your hearts ache for one another!" Theseus exclaimed. "How your heart sings nothing but her name, Tina! Tina! Oh, Tina!"
"Alright, shut up!" Newt said, jerking his head up towards his brother. "Maybe I am in love with her--" he stopped short at his brother's horrified expression. "Why are you looking at me like that, what is it?"
Theseus slowly took a sip of his tea and raised his eyebrows towards the doorway. Newt made a grimace at him and then turned to see what was such a big deal.
Tina stood in the doorway of the kitchen, lips pursed and hands in her pockets. "Who are you in love with?" she asked, feigning innocence.
Newt could feel a presiding sense of the color red. "No one," he said quickly, ducking his head to take a sip of his tea. Jacob pushed back his chair. "Uh, I'm gonna, start on some breakfast," he said, gesturing towards the stove. Theseus snickered into his tea. Tina sat in Jacob's chair and propped her elbow on the back of it, looking at Newt. "So who were you talking about?" she asked with a mischievous smile. Newt faltered, trying to bring his eyes up to her as he spoke. "It's--no one, Theseus and Jacob were teasing and I just--they were--they wouldn't--stop, so I..." his shifting gaze finally landed on her face and he stopped at the sight. He hadn't seen her smile quite this much since the battle--she was really enjoying this. They looked at each other for a few moments, speaking with their eyes, until Theseus said, "it feels very intrusive to be watching this."
Tina scowled at him and Newt regained some of the color that had faded from his face.
"So, uh, Newt, you gonna tell her?" Jacob called from the stove where he was sauteing fillings for omelets.
"Tell me what?" Tina asked, propping an elbow on the table and her chin on her hand. "That you're in love with me?"
Jacob said, "yeah," Theseus howled, and Newt tried desperately to form a series of words with his mouth.
"It's really not fair," Tina said, "for you to tell the boys and not tell me, don't you think? I mean I would never know, would I?"
"But you do know, don't you?" Newt asked. Tina laughed. "Well I do now, but you still haven't told me!"
Theseus took a satisfied sip of tea. "I really feel like I shouldn't be here but this is far too amusing."
Newt sighed and shook his head at Tina. "What do you want me to say?"
"Well," Tina said, shaking her hair out of her face, "you could just say what you said to the boys."
Newt wrinkled the right side of his nose in a grimace. "I just said...maybe I am--in love with you."
Tina chewed her lip and then said nonchalantly, "well, maybe I'm in love with you too." She stood abruptly out of her chair and clapped her hands together. "I'm going to make some coffee. I don't think I can stand another cup of tea."
"Ooh, make some for me," Jacob said as she came around next to him at the counter.
Theseus looked over at his little brother, who was watching Tina in shock and admiration. "That wasn't so hard, now, was it?" he said, nudging Newt. Newt rolled his eyes at Theseus and drank his tea, gazing at Tina as she worked. Theseus chuckled and mussed his hair. "You really are in deep."
