Taking Action

*this was rewritten for length. There is no longer a part two, unfortunately :(
The beginning is pretty much the same but the rest is different

Sorry for not updating for so long!!! I promise I'll try and update more. If you feel like it go vote for this book in the 2017 Fanfiction Awards!!

"The magizoologist is here, Madam President." Your secretary poked his head through the big bronze doors located at the front of your office.

"Good, send him in." You commanded, only raising your head for a brief second before returning to the pile of paperwork and case files stacked on your desk.

You heard the familiar click and whoosh of the door as it was opened to let in your visitor.

"Oh, thank y-" The door closed. "Alright," the visitor mumbled to himself.

You picked up a file on the edge of your desk and lazily flipped open the front cover. Inside was the picture of a young, handsome man. The name "Newt Scamander" was printed neatly next to the photograph. Underneath, in smaller writing, was the occupation "magizoologist."

"Newt Scamander, renowned magizoologist and author." You said, not looking up from the document.

"Yes, that's me," the man cleared his throat.

"I suppose you know why you're here?"

You raised your eyes to look at the man before you. You took in his long, blue coat, white button-up shirt, freckle-splattered skin, dusty brown hair, and of course, his famous tan case. He seemed fidgety and uncomfortable, but somehow brave and caring, like he just needed the right people to be so.

Newt coughed slightly, shuffled his feet, and studied your wall decor with interest, preferring to look everywhere but your face. "I don't, actually." He murmured, glancing at you for a quick second.

You smiled. "To catch up, of course. It's been a while."

You looked at your old friend with a warm smile, soaking up the image of him. In your mind you contrasted him with his younger self, letting old memories of an old friend drift through your conscience.

Newt's darting expression changed and his face broke into a smile. He gave a small laugh. "I thought you didn't recognize me," he smiled.

You stood up from your desk, your black and gold robes billowing gracefully as you rose. "Of course I recognize you," you feigned shock. "You were my best friend at Ilvermorny."

You stepped around your desk and opened your arms for a hug. Newt welcomed it gladly, setting down his case and wrapping his gangly arms around your regal form.

"Well, I was only there for one year- as an exchange student, you know, before I was.. oh, nevermind- I never thought-"

"Oh, be quiet. Of course I remember you. How could I forget?" You pulled away, eyes sparkling.

"Well.. I didn't think you forgot so much as... well, I figured you wanted to forget me." Newt said sheepishly, pulling away and averting his eyes, a blush rising onto his ruddy cheeks.

You frowned. "Exes can be friends, Newt. I wrote to you. I just got busy after school, you know, with the election and all..."

Newt seemed to brighten up. "Yes, look at you now!" He exclaimed, gesturing at your stately garb with an excited smile.

You shyly adjusted your metallic headpiece (you'd opted for a smaller, more inconspicuous alternative to Madam Picquery's towering hat) and let your hands rest by your sides. Your fingertips brushed the inside pocket of your robes, feeling the faint imprint of your wand, tucked safely away.

"Yes, well, I was always interested in politics. And everyone kept telling me I would do great at MACUSA." You laughed. "You know how much of a neat-freak I am. I couldn't let those half-wits run this place when there were clearly better people for the job," you said jokingly.

Newt smiled graciously. "Of course," he commented. "I wouldn't expect anything else from you."

You leaned against your desk, running over the worn wood with your fingertips. "Oh, it is so good to see you," you sighed.

Newt's smile turned into a sad one. "I've missed you," he said softly.

"Me too," you replied quietly. You turned your face from him, faking interest in your carpet.

"We had some great times together," he mused, clasping his hands behind his back gently.

You peeked at him through the corner of your eye and smirked. "Remember, that time in the West Tower, when Professor-"

Newt groaned. "Oh, please, don't remind me."

You laughed. "We got detention for a week. Although, I suppose that just provided us with more opportunities to be out and about after curfew though."

Newt looked at the ground and shook his head. "Oh my goodness.." he muttered.

"We were quite the rule breakers," you grinned. "It was all very romantic. We made quite the team."

Newt started, a thought seemingly scaring him as it came to his mind.

"Are you alright?" You raised your eyebrows.

"Oh, yes," he laughed nervously, suddenly uncomfortable.

You narrowed your eyes. "Something is off. What is it?"

"It's nothing, really,"

"No, tell me," you probed.

Newt studied the ground. And then the ceiling. He cleared his threat and fixed his coat. "Well, and this is just a thought that came to me, but I've been following you in the news, a-and I know you don't have a, uh, partner, and I just thought, maybe we could be a team again."

You cocked an eyebrow. "Newt Scamander, are you asking me out?"

Newt blushed a raspberry shade of red. "I guess so,"

You felt a pang in your heart. If it wasn't clear already, you and Newt had dated in high school. It was wonderful. You were the perfect fit for each other. You never fought, and every moment was special. You could have stayed with him forever if he hadn't had to go back to Hogwarts. You were crushed when you had to break things off and you'd always hoped you'd see him again.

You felt ridiculous, standing in the clothes of a president, and feeling like a little girl again. Newt always rendered you hopeless. He made you feel weak, but somehow, with him, you were strong.

All these emotions came rushing back as you gazed into his fractal eyes. You took a sharp breath and your eyelashes fluttered, feeling a wave of affection and sadness wash into your chest like a tidal wave.

"I-" you swallowed. "I'm the president. How would that look?" You asked, more for yourself than Newt. You averted your stare to your shoes, preferring to think while directed at the floor. Pink splotches appeared along your cheekbones.

You mentally debated it. Newt made you happy. If he was anything like his teenage self, you knew you would be satisfied. But what would it mean for you as a president?

You could think of one thing to settle your mind. "I want you to kiss me."

Newt smiled, his blush reddening. "I can do that,"

You watched as his brown shoes slowly advanced towards you, avoiding his face. Only when he was standing close to you, so close you could feel electric pulses flying between the two of you, did you look up.

His face, angular and marred with scars and blemishes, was so close you could count the freckles dotting his sun-kissed nose. He was so imperfect, yet he was just as you remembered- absolutely breathtaking.

Your breath caught in your throat. "I can't believe I'm doing this," you murmured.

"Me neither," Newt replied with a quiet chuckle. His breath tickled the side of your face as you looked away.

Your heart rate sped up, as you started having doubts about your decision. "How is it that I still have feelings for you after all this time? I'm a president for merlin's sake, I shouldn't be playing games-"

Newt cut you off with a simple hand on your cheek and look in your eyes. You could tell he was just as confused and excited as you were. Neither of you understood why you were drawn to one another after just minutes of reconnecting.

He didn't say anything. But he leaned in, pressed his lips to yours, and suddenly all of the feeling from your youth flooded back into you.

It was strange how you had found Newt and he had found you. But he did it, and with that one kiss you knew that you were going to be indescribably happy.
