After the Graveyard-Fluff

The events in Paris left marks on them all. Theseus lost his fiancee, Jacob lost his love interest, and Tina lost her sister. Granted, Tina and Jacob's losses were because of a betrayal while Theseus's fiancee was actually dead, but it was a loss none the less. And Newt? Newt lost two very good friends. But that doesn't matter. He didn't lose what the others have lost, not exactly. When the others had a nightmare, it was his job to comfort them. When a shoulder was needed to cry on, he was there.

Newt made sure they were as happy and comfortable as possible, completely forgetting his own needs. He was up all night making sure they didn't have nightmares, he didn't even want to risk waking them up if he had a nightmare. He did the things he needed to do while they ate so he could be with them every other time. Because of this, he hadn't had real food or sleep in weeks. Just enough to stay alive. Okay not even that... he was only using spells.

When he needed to cry, well that didn't happen. It was burned into him long ago by his dad that he didn't deserve to live, let alone cry. Crying was for the weak, anyway.

But his lack of self care and built up emotions was taking a toll on his physical health. His eyes were sunken in and had giant bags, and the rest of him was skin and bones. He still acted like nothing was wrong, though. But Tina, Theseus and Jacob saw through his act.

"Newt, why don't you eat with us today?" Jacob asked in an attempted to actually talk to him.

"Yeah, Newt. We haven't done that in a while," Theseus said, quickly catching on.

Newt stops in his tracks. "I really don't think that would be best. See, when you eat is when I feed my creatures. I quickly eat down there with them so I have more time to spend with you guys," he said after putting on a very convincing fake smile.

"But can't we just change it this once? Then we could do go down and feed the creatures together! Wouldn't that be fun?" Tina tried to change his mind. Seeing the looks on everyone's faces, Newt knew there was no getting out of this and agreed. Once he sat down, Jacob asked him about how his life's going.

"My life?"

"Yeah. We tell you everything and don't give you time to speak your mind. So how's your life been going?"

"Oh. It's been...good."

"Don't lie, Newt," Theseus said.

"I'm not lying!" he quickly defended.

"You're in a room with two aurors. Nothing gets past us," Tina pointed out.

"I'm fine, guys. Honest."

"So you're saying that the events in the graveyard didn't affect you at all? Because we've never seen you get upset about it."

"I'm sorry."

The three stared bewildered at Newt. "You're...sorry?" one of them spoke up.

"Yes. I didn't know it offended you. I'm sorry."

"Newt, it doesn't offend us. We can tell you're upset. We just don't know why you keep it in," Tina said.

"I'm not upset. Besides, I haven't lost what you guys have," Newt said almost convincingly.

"You're right, Newt. You've lost more," Theseus said. Newt opened his mouth to argue, but Tina held her hand up to silence him.

"He's right, Newt. Theseus might've lost a fiancee, I might've lost a sister, and Jacob might've lost a soul mate, but you lost two best friends. And not once have you asked for comforting. We all know you need it."

"I'm fine guys. And besides, it's not like I deserve to cry." Newt's eyes widened as he realized what he said.

"Why would you think that, buddy?" Jacob asked.

Newt's the friends looked at him expectantly.

"If you don't tell us, I'm gonna pull a Queenie and read your thoughts," Tina threatened.

"Fine! Fine. When I was young, me dad didn't like me to cry, happy now?" The looks he got said that they weren't.

"It's...just bad memories I don't want to revisit."

"What did Dad do, Newt?" Theseus asked quietly.

"Nothing!" He replied a little too quickly.

"Legimins," Tina and Theseus said with their wands pointed at Newt. After a few minutes, they returned to the real world with tears in their eyes.

"Why didn't you tell me Newt? I would've done something to stop it!" Theseus said angrily.

Knowing there was no point in lying, Newt explained.

"He said that if I told you, he would hurt me more. He always made sure you couldn't see what happened because someday when your were famous, he wanted to look good in the public eye. But he knew I was going to end up useless, so he took his anger out on me. "

"Newt, you're not useless! You know that, right? And you don't live with him anymore, you can let your feelings out, we won't hurt you."

"Thank you guys. I'll keep that in mind for the future."

They all smiled at the progress they made and went down to feed the creatures together.
