Chapter 30

Place: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Date: November  27, 2014 (Thanksgiving Thursday)

Warning: Evalina fangirls

She hesitantly came over, her camera around her neck. Boy is she in for a surprise.

Evalina's P.O.V.

Ben called me over. Hesitantly I walked over. Instantly I recognized who he was talking to from the many photos on his phone and his dressing room. It was Emma, his twin. "Evalina, Emma, Emma, Evalina." Ben said "You must be the directer's niece. Ben talks about you a lot." Emma said. "I must." I muttered silently. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm sorry I'm in such a rush I have to get going. I forgot I have some work to do at the party. I'll see you then." I said quickly. I began running off before they could respond. I wasn't actually lying I have a lot of photos to edit and I have to send out the next clue as E on broadway then make it back on time for the party.

3rd Person P.O.V.

After working nonstop for an hour Evalina sighed sitting back in her chair. She had finished most of the photos and sent out a clue. She then saw the clock on the wall. "Frick! I'm going to be late." She threw on a cute maroon dress that reached right above her knees. "Gonna be late gonna be late." She murmured as she haphazardly put her hair into a bun jabbing bobby pins in to keep it in place then spraying hairspray over the final project. "Gonna be late gonna be late." She murmured again running across the room to grab her phone, camera, and jacket. "Gonna be late gonna be late." She continued chanting as she did one last mirror check before running to the elevator. She saw the elevator was at the bottom floor and would take too long to get back up. She sighed fixing her glasses clearly irritated.

She ran down the stairs in a hurry. "Gonna be late." She chanted once again. She checked her phone going on google maps to get the directions. With all the traffic going on it would be faster if she walked, well ran. Good thing she chose to go in converse. She began running taking sharp lefts and right running into the occasional person and running through crowds. "Gonna be late." She chanted quietly through the loudness of the city and it's people. Eventually she made it to the restaurant they had reserved, it was nice had a little stage and a dance floor for parties but it was an over all nice venue.

Evalina's eyes widened wen she saw everyone was already seated and was Jeff was giving a speech. Evalina was relieved when she saw no one had noticed her abrupt entrance but then frowned when she saw the only seat that was left was next to Ben. She quickly made her way over and silently slipped into the seat next to him. Everyone was focused on Jeff's speech. Ben turned around to get a sip of his drink when he saw Evalina sitting next to him. He laughed slightly. He lent over and whispered. "Better late than never." He said with a slight chuckle. Evalina gave him a look. "I got caught up in work, can you blame me?" "You work too much." He said. "You don't know the half of it." She muttered.

They both returned their attention to Jeff Calhoun who was speaking onstage. Evalina began bouncing her hand on her knee. She really didn't want to be here. This was the exact opposite of distancing. "Get in get out. Be seen by a few then bounce." She mumbled to herself as Jeff concluded his speech and everyone applauded him. The music began and everyone began talking amongst themselves. Everyone stood up and walked around the venue talking with others. Evalina slipped away from Ben before he could get a word and went to talk to her uncle. "Great speech. I got some pictures." She said as she gave him a hug. "Thanks. What are you doing to do with all those pictures anyways?" "Make a slideshow. For everyone to keep you know. With videos, pictures, and even drawings. It'll be like a memoir for everyone to keep." Evalina said. "Videos?" "Yeah, I have videos of the boys and some of the girls doing funny or stupid things or celebrating someone's birthday." She said with a smile. "Don't think I haven't noticed how you've buried yourself in your work." Jeff said.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Evalina denied but knew full well what he was talking about. "You've done so much work over the past month that we're all worried. The boys say you look like you haven't slept in days. Some of the girls say that when they come back late from going out your light is still on. The boys say they don't even know you anymore aside from the few hello's you've mumbled to them. What's going on?" He asked concerned. "I've just been needing some time to think. Every time I get closer to them the only thought that crosses my mind is Veronica and I can't help but worry. These are good kids, Uncle. They don't need me to ruin their lives." Evalina said sadly. "You know what happened to Veronica was not your fault." He said to her. "I can't help but feel that it does. I can't help but feel that darkness and death follow me because it seems the people I care most for do. Mrs. Greenwich died in a car crash coming to my concert, Veronica couldn't handle the world anymore, my favorite aunt died in a plane crash. (A/n:The aunt is not related to Jeff btw this is on her fathers side) It's all just a little too much. I just need to think about it." Evalina said her voice wavering slightly.

Jeff gave her a hug. "It'll be fine. None of those were your fault. Just give them a chance, I promise you they can help. They'll be there for you." Jeff said. "I'll think about it. I have to go take some pictures anyways and record some karaoke." "Alright, love you." "Love you too." She said as she began walking around snapping pictures of the cast. Some of them were dancing, laughing, talking, eating. They were all enjoying their thanksgiving day. She continued hiding behind pillars and snapping pictures and briskly walking away before anyone could talk to her. Evalina sighed as she lent against a pillar so she could think for a moment. In the background she could hear Sky singing the Schuyler Sisters with Ben, Josh, and Ginna. She closed her eyes for a moment enjoying the peace.

Her moment of peace did not last very when someone called her name. She quickly looked up and saw it was Emma. "Hi Emma." "Hey Evalina. We didn't get to talk much earlier so I wanted to get to know you better." Emma said. Evalina nodded awkwardly. "So do you have any siblings?" Emma asked. "Yeah, I have a brother. What's it like being away from your twin all the time?" Evalina said changing the topic of conversation quickly. "I'll never admit it to his face but it's hard. We're always there for each other but now it's a lot harder with him on tour. I mean we both have our friends but it's not the same." Emma said. "That's sweet. Ben always looks at pictures of the two of you, he misses you more than you know." Evalina said with a smile recalling how he changed his home screen to a picture of him and Emma and how he had pictures of them always on them.

After talking for a little while Ben came over and slung his arm around Emma. "I see you two have gotten acquainted." Ben said. Emma laughed "that makes you sound old."  Evalina shook her head with a slight smile at their teasing. Evalina began to scour around some more to take more pictures when someone told her to go get a picture of the Cook family. Of course she obliged because it was her job. She walked over to where she saw Ben and Sky talking with Ben, Emma, and two adults. "Must be their parents." She noted as she brought the camera up to her face. She snapped the picture but didn't realize she had left flash on alarming them. "Sorry about that." She mumbled softly bringing the camera to fix the settings. "Evalina! I can't believe you're here." Josh exclaimed running over to engulf her in a hug along with Sky.

She stood there as the two strangled her in a hug. "Well yeah it is kind of part of my job." She mumbled. "Guys I think you're strangling her." Ben said with a slight laugh. Josh and Sky eventually, though hesitant to do so, let go. "We're just surprised you're here you've been a ghost the past month." Sky said putting his arm around her shoulder ensuring one that she wouldn't run away and two that she was actually there. This was their longest conversation with her in the past month and they still wanted answers to her random disappearances. " I've just been super busy with work and family. Unlike you guys I work even when you aren't rehearsing or performing. " she muttered the last part. (A/n: I mean the tired sass is me too)

"Too busy to not make enough time for us?" Josh asked putting Ben turned to her. "Oh yeah! Evalina, I didn't introduce you to my parents. Evalina this is my mom Jill Cook and my dad Glenn Cook." Evalina froze when she heard the second name.

Evalina's P.O.V.

Glenn Cook. Glenn. Cook. As in the Glenn Cook that inspired me. The one who is the whole reason I do photography. One of the people who made me who I am today. "I, er, it's a pleasure to meet you." I stuttered out. "I'm a big fan of your work." I continued. He laughed. Oh no! What'd I do? I, what do I do? "That's good to hear. I've seen some of your work myself. It's very good, you're very talented." Ohmygosh!Ohmygosh!OHMYGOSH! He just complimented me, I mean this is like Tony Stark complimenting Peter Parker or saying 'yeah I've seen you at my Stark Expos you're pretty smart kid.' Like WHAT! "Th-thank you! I mean it's nothing compared to your work. I mean you have loads of experience..." I continued rambling. The others just laughed.

3rd Person P.O.V.

Evalina rambled nervously. "I mean not that you're amazing because you are and I should shut up. Shutting up now." The others chuckled. She then remembered what she was here for. "Could I get a picture of you all?" She asks pushing her glasses up her nose. "Sure." and variations of such were muttered. As the four of them got together she snapped the shot. "Well it was nice meeting you all." She stuttered before quickly walking away, slipping away from in between Sky and Josh. "Awww, I've never seen her so adorably nervous." Josh coed. Sky smacked his head. "You're so weird. We were supposed to talk to her." He said. "Ohhh, we were. Oops."

Sky just shook his head. "So that's your girlfriend." Emma said with a knowing smile. "Wha? No. I don't know what you're talking about?" Ben sputtered. "Bro, we're twins. Of course I'd know." Emma said with a laugh. The two argued for a short moment. Their parents laughed at the two. "Hey dad. Remember that story you told us about that girl at Ragtime?" Ben asked. Josh smirked knowing where this was going. "Yeah, when I took that picture of you in the crowd?" Glenn recalled. "Yup. Well you know how you just met Evalina?" He asked. "Ben where is this going with the rhetorical questions?" Jill asked with a slight laugh. "Evalina is the girl. She carries the sim card around with her and even has the picture of Ben in her wallet all the time!" Josh said butting in.

"Really?" Emma asked. "Yup!" Josh said enthusiastically. "How did she not realize it was Ben?" Glenn asked with a laugh. "She's a very, very dense person. To a point where it's scary." Sky said. They laughed and continued talking. After a while Ben's parents and sister left back to their hotel having to go back to New York in the morning. Evalina was out on the balcony just about getting ready to leave having been there for an hour.

Ben had decided to go look for her to talk to her. He walked around the venue and eventually found his way to the balcony. He saw her taking a picture of the night sky and smiled. "It sure is peaceful out here." He said with a smile. Evalina turned towards him startled taking a fighting stance but relaxing when she realized who it was. "Yeah, I came out here for quiet. Not that I don't love you guys it's just really loud in there. Too loud to think." She mumbled quietly. They stood there in silence for a while. "Well I better get going." She said. "Wait, Evalina I need to tell you something." Evalina turned to him. "Yeah what is it?" She asked. "Well," Ben was cut off by the sound of her phone. Evalina looked at him apologetically. "Sorry, I need to take this."

She excused herself and answered the phone. It was Ana, she had some questions about the new merchandise going up. Evalina explained to her everything then hung up. She went back to the balcony. "Sorry about that. What did you need to tell me?" She asked. Ben looked at her. "Never mind it's not important." He said. "I'll see you later then." She said as she made her way off the balcony. But how soon would later be? I'll answer your question. Tomorrow because tomorrow is Nico's birthday. YAY!
