Chapter 12 1/2

"You see we don't have a Sniper tonight and it's eight minutes until we go on. We don't have any swings but Evalina said she could go on. She said she knew the choreography and songs like the back of he hand."

Jeff sighed from the other side of the phone. He told everyone they could have a break. Some of the Toursies were picking up on his nervous behaviour because he was pacing back and forth. "Its been it's been nine years since I've seen her dance and I've never heard her sing. We're taking a wild shot."

"Should I tell the director to cancel." "No, I believe in my niece. Make sure she pins her hair up." "Oh yeah and she said not to tell the Toursies." "Yeah I won't. In a situation in which her hair falls out, tell her that it's okay. We have a girl playing Sniper on tour so if it falls out the audience could have either a really good reaction or a really bad one."

"Okay, Jeff. Is there anything you want us to tell her?" "Just tell her to be careful, I'm not sure if she can even do Sniper's parts but I believe in her so just watch out for her. Thanks, Kara."

"We will Jeff. Thanks for letting her go on. I gotta go but let's hope this goes smoothly."

Jeff hung up on the other end and sighed. He hoped this would work out. Dan came up to him. "We kind of overheard part of your conversation. Is Eve all right?" "She is, but I'm not sure what's going to happen." "What do you mean?" "Nothing you need to worry about. Rehearsal is being cut by an hour . We only have two hours left instead. Let's get back to work!" Jeff said and clapped his hands.

Evalina burst into Kara's dressing room. She had the costume in hand. She threw on the clothes as quickly as she could. Kara braided her hair and pinned it up, hoping that it would hold. She got miced up.

"Alright my only solo is yelling 'so's the Bronx'" Evalina asked. Kara nodded and the both stepped out getting into positions. "You got this, don't worry." Kara said as Evalina started stretching as quickly as she could. Places had already been called.

"I hope I don't mess this up." Evalina said. "Don't worry. Jeff told me he hasn't seen you dance in a few years but he believes in you. You're gonna do great."

Evalina got into places in between Ryan S. and Thayne. "You're going on for Alex?" Thayne asked. "It was either that or have no show tonight." Evalina asked.

"You've got this don't worry. We all believe in you." Thayne said. "I never expected to actually make a Broadway debut. Even if I did, I never planned on it being this way."

"This is your debut?" Ryan S asked. Never seeing her dance or sing and not even knowing if she knew all the lines made them slightly nervous but they believed in her. They may have known her for a short time but they had faith she could pull this off.

Ephraim came behind her and patted her shoulder. He smiled at her and she gave a nervous smile back. Only a few people knew she was going on tonight. Not even the whole cast knew but hopefully they could mask their surprise until intermission.

Santa Fe prologue just finished and now it was time to go on. Evalina ran into place. Then Ryan B's voice rung throughout the theater.

Everything went slowly. Now was when the other boys would have the chance to notice she was the one going on. First to notice was Corey. At first he was confused but then he winked. She slightly smiled.

She began talking with Ryan S. That's when Mike noticed her in line. He was still one of the Delancy brothers so his face showed mean but then he winked, it was so quick you would be mistaken it for him blinking.

Ben noticed when he was asking for his extra pape since he only got 19. He winked at her so Eva knew that she had been spotted. One by one the Newsies noticed that she had been stepping in for Dan.

She hadn't sung a single note off key and hadn't messed up any of the choreography so far and for that she was grateful. During The Bottom Line Corey, Ben and a few others came up to her asking why she was on and she explained what happened.

Ben patted her head and Corey side hugged her. They wished her luck and ran off to their places.

The first act was almost when all of a sudden for seize the day. Everyone was doing their flips into their places and she missed her cue. She decided to go at the same time the last person did. She specifically remembered what they did and did the same thing so it looked intentional.

The crowd went wild. Eventually intermission arrived. Evalina sighed and leaned on the wall of one of the hallways. "You're doing great." Corey said. "I'm just glad I haven't messed up yet, except for when I missed my cue in seize the day." Ben came over. "You're doing amazing." "Thanks. It was funny seeing everyone's reactions when they noticed I would be going on for Alex. "

Everyone got into place for the second act. When Evalina went on she felt hair pins falling out. She was about to panic but Kara gave her a reassuring smile. She gave a nervous smile back. As she stepped into her place she felt more pins falling out.

She knew it was gonna happen during the tap number. Eventually she felt the last pin come undone and fall. She kicked it off stage so no one would trip over it. She looked over and saw Corey in the wings. She pointed to her head showing that it would come out.

He looked just as nervous as her. The moment came for her to pull of her hat. She started tapping next to Ryan B. Slightly panicking since he had so many solos knowing the attention would be on him. She pulled her hat off and did a quick spin. The crowd went wild.

The tap number started and she threw her hat back on not even trying to hide it any more. She did the tap number and crowd was cheering. At least their response wasn't negative. E noticed people breaking the no phone rule and taking pictures and partial videos of her.

She sighed in frustration finishing the number. She then ran off stage with the rest of the Newsies. She leaned against the wall. There was no possible way of keeping this from the Toursies now.

Eventually the show went on. Everyone reacted well to having the girl Newsie and Broadway blogs, blogs, and other things had been blowing up.

When curtain call came around the audience was especially excited. Each name was called. Evalina heard her name, well not her actual name.

"Evalina Calhoun!" She did a flip and bowed. Many phones were snapping pictures. She could hear it and a loud amount of applause coming from the crowd.

She that was over she walked off stage and changed. She was walking to Ben's dressing room as many people congratulated her. The cast had even managed to get her some flowers since this was her unofficial Broadway debut.

She was walking past Corey's dressing room when she heard riffing. She knocked on the door and heard Andrew yell come in. There Ben and Corey were having a riff off. She laughed. She pulled out her phone and changed Ben's contact to Benoncé.

She smiled and put it back. Each of the three boys have her a hug. "You did great tonight." Evalina muted her phone in case a bunch of notifications came on.

"Thanks, but you guys were amazing too. I'm gonna go. I'll see you guys soon." Evalina said as she waved and left the theater. She left through the stage door, luckily no one recognized her. But she was not prepared for what was going to happen the next day.

A/n now I know that the Broadway show closed before tour even started rehearsals but I'm going to make the show end in early November. Also thanks to those who are reading this I have decided to keep writing this story and publish a new one. Live long and prosper Fansies and until next time.
