Chapter 10

Last chapter...

These thoughts were running through my mind as everything replayed over and over again. I walked into my room and sat down on the bed. I checked my phone.

One missed call from Father

It's time to face him... it's now or never.

**********************************************************

I called him back. "Hello, this is Justin Bonnefoy, how many I help you?" He asked in that sickly sweet fake voice.

"It's me father. I've made my decision." He scoffed. "The right one I suppose, I don't want you running around the country bringing lies and bad truths to our name."

"I'm going with Uncle." "You're such a disgrace. I expect you to be on your best behavior and don't annoy your uncle. I'm sure he has more than enough to deal with already and him taking care of you is even worse."

"Yes, father." "Find something useful to do and I expect you at some point to follow up on your education. Follow your brother's example, I mean he's already running part of the business and all you're doing is becoming a nuisance."

"Goodbye, father." "Goodbye,... disgrace." He hung up. I sighed. When I told Ben that's what they call me I wasn't kidding. I checked the time. It looked to be around 12. I'm not tired so I might as well animate.

Time skip ~~~~

I heard an alarm go off. I think I slept for... three hours? It'd enough to get me through the day. I took a shower. I changed into some khaki pants, a button up shirt, and a cardigan. I put my wraps on my arms. I fixed my hair into a half up half down style. I put on my glasses and grabbed my wallet, camera, my tag/pass thingy just in case, and phone.

I have enough time to grab my tea and hop into a subway. After a short wait we made it to my stop.

Alright, so I have to meet Ben at the Nederlander theatre. Well he said inside. I checked the time, 10:40. I'm early so I'll just go in. Just as I tried to I got stopped by a guard.

Hmmm, I'll abuse my Newsies powers and take out my tag. I showed it to him and he let me in. I'm not apart of this theater... they should tighten up security.

So here's what I know about Ben.... nothing. Except he's an actor because he asked me to come into a theatre. I sighed and pulled out my phone and was about to text him when someone poked my shoulder.

"Who are you?" I turned around to see a guy with brown hair. He had blue eyes and one had a sample of green. "I'm Evalina, I'm supposed to meet Ben here." "Hi, I'm Mike. Not to be rude, but how did you get in?"

I laughed at his confusion. "I used my pass." "Newsies? Just don't think I've seen you around here..." Mike said.

"That's because this isn't where just work." "But it says newsies on your tag..." "I work with the touring cast." "Oh." "Yeah, I'm Jeff Calhoun's niece too." "Are you the one he always talked about?

"Probably since I'm his only niece." "I should probably take you to Ben's dressing room." "Thanks." We began walking up many stairs occasionally running into people but mainly just techies.

While looking around I finally realized this was Newsies. I mean Broadway newsies. I won the album but just can't put a face to the name I suppose. And if I'm right then Ben is Ben Fankhauser.

We pass by multiple doors. Male ensemble room,  etc.

We eventually make it to a room that says Ben and Andrew. This is gonna be awkward, I can already tell. I pushed my thoughts aside and knocked on the door. In which included Mike asking if they were decent. We heard a yes yelled from inside.

Lo and behold there is Ben getting his stuff and another guy, who I'm going to assume is Andrew. Ben turned around and smiled. "Hey, Ben." "Hey, E."

My name is long so shortening it can't hurt anyone.  "Hi, I'm Andrew." I smiled and waved. "Hi, I'm Evalina." "Not to be rude or anything, but... is Ben your boyfriend?" Ben and I looked at each other then burst out laughing.

"No, we're just friends." We choked out in between laughs. "I'm going to guess that they saw you texting me, and when you told them it was no one they assumed that you were hiding something so they stole your phone, then based off the texts assumed we were dating and wanted to meet your 'secret girlfriend'." I said.

Ben laughed. "Pretty much. I'll introduce you to some others on our way out." "Bye, Andrew it was nice meeting you." We walked out then ran into a girl.

"Oh my gosh is this her?!?!" I looked up to see a girl with brown hair. "Yeah, Kara, this is Evalina, E, this is Kara." "Nice to meet you." Kara said. "Same to you." She looked at my lanyard. "Do you work here?" She asked, slightly confused.

"I don't, Mike thought the same thing. I'm the personal photographer for Newsies on tour. My uncle is Jeff Calhoun." A dawn of realization set upon her face. "Oh, so you're the niece Jeff always talks about." "Yup, assuming since there aren't any  others."

"Well it was nice meeting you." "Same to you." Ben and I continued down even more stairs. That's when we saw a blonde hair guy and a brown haired guy walk out of the ensemble room.

"Hi." The blonde one said. "Is this her?" The brown haired one asked. "Yup, Evalina this is Thayne and Ryan." Ben said gesturing towards the brown haired one first then the blonde. "Thayne, Ryan, this is Evalina."

"Hi." They looked at me with confused glances. "Have we seen you before?" Ryan asked. I figured he saw the badge. "Probably not, I work with the touring Newsies cast but I'm sure that at some point I'll be back here. I'm also Jeff Calhoun's niece."

"Oh that niece he talks about, well it's nice to finally meet you." I didn't think Jeff talked about me that much but maybe he planned on bringing me here at some point. "Same to you."

"Well, we're off. Ben we'll see you tonight and Eva can't wait to see you again."

"Bye." Eventually Ben and I made it out of the theater. "So where do you wanna go?" Evalina shrugged. "Anywhere is fine with me." Ben decided on an Italian restaurant. As we entered a waitress immediately came up to us.

When we sat, we both read through the menus quietly. Ben picked Chicken Alfredo and I picked a simple Caesar Salad. "So what's it like being in a Broadway show and originating the role of Davey?"

"Honestly is like living a dream everyday. It's amazing getting to work with all these talented people." Ben's face lit up when he spoke. He's very passionate about what he does.

We continued to talk throughout the meal not a single dull moment. Right when the bill came just as I was about to pay my part Ben wouldn't let me. "Think of it as a payment for your ruined shirt." After a few minutes of arguing I gave in.

Just as we began walking on the street I noticed some of the toursies. Just my luck. "Alright, Ben this may sound weird but I'm gonna hand you my glasses and take out my contacts really quickly after that I want you to hold my hand and call me Meadow. " I pulled of my glasses shoved them in his hands and took out contacts showing my two different colored eyes. I ruffled my hair a little and grabbed Ben's hand.

I shuddered slightly but I don't want the toursies in my personal life. I made my voice slightly higher. I sure hope Ben is good at improv.

"So sweetie where are we going next?" Ben looked confused but played along. "We're gonna go see Wicked." "You finally got tickets, thank you so so much." Just as the tourists passed by Ben put his arm around my shoulders and we continued walking this way until they were out if sight.

"Thanks, Ben. Sorry for putting you in that position." "It's fine, but who were you avoiding." "Just some of the touring cast knowing them they'd ask too many questions when I go to the next rehearsal or get spammed with texts."

Ben looked at my eyes. "Your eyes...." "Yeah I wear colored contacts then my glasses, I hate wearing colored contacts and then the ones with my prescription. A lot of people hate my eyes." I said as I began putting in my contacts.

"I don't know why they would think that, I think they're beautiful." "Thanks, Ben." I checked the time. "Judging by the time we both have to go. Bye, Ben. I had fun, it was nice meeting you and your cast, I'll probably visit at some random time."

"Can't wait until then. Bye." We both parties ways and I made my way towards Jeff's house. Your was about two weeks from starting so all the practice they could get in would be helpful.

I sighed, today had been interesting. I checked my phone and saw some picture of Ben and I, well that and food because the dishes were so pretty. I sighed and decided to call Ana.

I heard one ring then she picked up. "WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING? I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF YOU SINCE EARLY IN THE MORNING!" "I was out eating lunch with Ben." "Who's Ben?" "Ben who spilled his coffee down my shirt, Ben." "That's so helpful can I at least get to know his full name?" "Ben Fankhauser."

"You met Ben Fankhauser and you didn't even tell me you were meeting up for lunch." "It was a last minute apology, relax." Ana then droned on about everything I had been missing.

When I checked the time I saw it was getting late and that I was late. "Ana, I have to go to rehearsals. I'm already late because of you." "Fine, but if you see any cute boys send me pictures of them and introduce us, don't leave out the fact that I'm very single." "-.-' you don't need me to help you, you could practically get any boy you wanted, also that's weird and they're my co-workers." "Fine, Bye love you." "Love you too, you twat." Of hung up before she could protest.

I changed my hair and outfit. I put my glasses on grabbed my wallet, camera, phone, and sketchbook. I ran out the doors, glad that since Jeff was the director I wouldn't get yelled at in front of everyone.
