"What ?" Jack said as he put the large orange pumpkin down on their kitchen table .

"I've never carved a pumpkin" Katherine said flatly as she tied her long brown hair up .

"What ?! Why ?!" He asked his girlfriend who was now sitting crossed legged .

"Dad always said they're too messy and plus my family doesn't do Halloween decorations, they pay people to do it for them"

"Well that my dear is changing... geez I thought I had a shitty childhood " Jack sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Shut up !" She laughed throwing a pencil at him.

"Anyway ... welcome to Jack's carving class ... today we are gonna carve on them pumpkins ... get a knife and pencil and get going " he smiled .

"Okay , I'm ready !" She said proudly.

Jack gathered newspapers and spread them across their dark cherry kitchen table , he had two medium size pumpkins and one large one for himself , since he was the master of Halloween.

"So ... we're gonna cut the top off then get all the seeds and crap out" he told her handing her a knife.

"That's gross ... what do we do with the crap and seeds ?" Katherine asked as she grabbed her pumpkin.

"We take the crap to Medda and she makes the most delicious pumpkin pie , take the seeds and roast them , sprinkle salt ! SNACKS !"

"Oh... okay so I just cut a circle or -"

"Use that marker and make a circle around the stem wide enough to get the crap out and fit a candle" he explained as he used a marker to dot a circle around the stem.

After both had cut their stems and taken all the pumpkin guts out they began to figure out what they wanted to carve .

"Can I just do a simple smile face ? Or -"

"No... if you're gonna carve a pumpkin you gotta do it right Ace... think outside the box ... make a typewriter or a pencil ! Maybe a snap chat ghost !" He suggested.

"Snap chat ghost ... hmm ... I can do that... what are you doing jack ?" She asked.

"You'll see ... it's a surprise" he smiled .

"Surprise ? Oh no , last time you said that I spent three days washing frosting out of my hair !" She said.

"No ... not a bad surprise Ace ... you'll love it ! Promise !"

"For sure ?" She asked at him.

"For sure Ace" he smirked and began to trace a design for him to carve .

After about two hours of silence , the sound of the fire cackling and the pumpkin cinnamon candles burning and hot cocoa she had prepared for them.

"And I'm done!" She smiled turning her pumpkin around to show him the simple pumpkin with a Snapchat ghost on it .

"That's wonderful Ace !" He said with a smile .

"Okay now let me see yours !"

"Okay " he moved her pumpkin aside "close your eyes" she did just so "and open"

"Oh jack" she smiled , it was a beautiful carving of the skyline with the shadow of jack and Katherine.

"Happy Halloween " he smiled .

Also I'm said to say Happy Trails to the touring cast of NEWSIES !

I had the chance to see the show live and it changed me forever , bringing me into this crazy fandom and I never ever want to leave ! I can't wait till I get to see the live filmed performance with Kara , Jermey , Ben and Andrew ! I'm pumped and I'll be dragging all my friends and boyfriend in to see it !
