3rd Person
"Would ya like ta buy a pape, miss?" Kid Blink asks her. She looks up at the newsie and hands him a penny in exchange for a paper.
"So, how are headlines today?" she continues the conversation with him. They've been friends for a while now. He has even fallen for this beautiful girl, but sadly, he has no guts to tell her.
"Bad as usual," he answers and she agrees while looking through the newspaper.
"I should get going, but I'll see you later," she smiles noticing how late is has already gotten.
"Bye, (Y/N)," he says as she walks away. He smiles while watching her turn around once more while she walked away before she turned a corner.
With the time they've spent together, there was no way he couldn't have fallen for her. She is perfect. She is nice, funny, smart, gorgeous- everything he likes in a girl. He just hopes one day she might love him as much as he loves her.
*One Week Later*
"Hey, (Y/N)," he greets walking towards her.
"Hi," she replies blandly.
"How's it rollin'?" he continues ignoring her strange behavior.
"Fine. I should go," she quickly says walking away from him without looking back.
He couldn't help but notice how strange she acted. She was never this rude or bland. He wanted to know what was upsetting her, so, being very nosy, he followed her.
He kept an eye on her as she made her way around the city before stopping at Tibby's and walking in. He decides against going in and just watches as she makes her way towards Bennie Flynn.
Bennie Flynn was one of the richest people in Manhattan. His father was a very successful business man. He had blonde hair styled upwards with hazel eyes. He was tall and thin. Soon, he'll be taking over his father's business.
He couldn't stand seeing them together. It should be him who takes her out to dinner or makes her laugh, and here, seeing Bennie in his position, he feels as if his whole world fell apart.
But he beat her to it. Her heart was taken. He could have been her first kiss or her first serious boyfriend. He could have been where he was standing.
*One Week Later*
She hasn't come to buy a paper from him in a week. She stopped talking to him overall which brought him to the conclusion that now since she was dating one of the richest people in Manhattan, she doesn't talk to street rats.
But he still sees her now and then with her dazzling smile and luscious hair making him fall even harder whenever he saw her. He knew liking her would only bring heartbreak, but he couldn't help himself. He loved her first.
The sun was beginning to go down as he made his way to the lodging house to turn in for the day.
"Stop!" he heard an all too familiar voice yell. "Bennie, stop!" he heard again and again. He walked towards the sound seeing Bennie pinning her to the wall of an alley. He stomped over to them and pulled Bennie off of her.
"What ah ya doin'? She said stop," he told Bennie.
"It's none of your business, you filthy street rat. Get lost," Bennie fought.
"Once ya leave 'er alone," he challenged.
"We're done," Bennie told her.
"No, Bennie, wait. I don't know him," she pleaded stabbing Blink with each word. Bennie just kept on walking away. She turned around to Blink as he does the same seeing tears in her eyes.
"What do you think you were doing?" she asks in a yell. "Because of you, he's gone!"
"I'se was jus' tryin' ta help," he explains.
"I don't need your help! You're not my boyfriend!" she yells as he slowly backs away. "Just stay out of my life," she finishes before brushing past him as she walks away.
....
She hasn't talked to Blink ever since that night she lost Bennie even though he was trying to protect her. He felt bad for making her cry, but at the same time, he was glad that he did something before Bennie did anything else.
Blink kept his gaze to the ground as he trudged through the streets.
"Can I please buy a pape?" someone asks making him look up to see her standing there holding out a nickel.
"Ya do know it's only a penny," Blink tells her with a small smile.
"It's the least I could do for my savior," she smiles.
"Ya not mad?" Blink questions with confusion etched in his voice.
"Listen, Blink, I was at first. I thought I loved Bennie. I don't know what I was thinking. I over-reacted. You did save me. I don't even want to think about what he could have done if you weren't there, so thank you," she explains.
"Ya very welcome," he smiles exchanging the nickel for a paper. "(Y/N), can I'se talk ta you'se?" he asks knowing now is the time to tell her. He wasn't going to risk another guy taking her heart.
"Of course," she answers before he leads her away from the crowded streets. "What do you need to talk to me about?"
"(Y/N), I'se been in love wit ya evah since I'se met ya," he looks into her eyes as she does the same thing. "I'se been wantin' ta tell ya, but he beat me to it," Blink finishes hoping for the reaction he desperately needed.
"Blink," she starts raising a hand to the back of his neck. "I love you, too," she tells him back before he crashes his lips into hers. Their lips moved in sync as he wraps his arms around her waist while her arms snaked around his neck pulling him closer.
He may not have been her first kiss, but he was definitely her first and only love.
