95 - Spot
"You're dating Spot Conlon?" your brother asks in disbelief wishing it wasn't true. You slowly nod as anger boils in him. He was a Manhattan newsie and all the newsies knew you were off-limits. But it just kind of happened. He took deep breaths trying to control his anger. "You know I don't like him," he tells you.
"You don't like any of my boyfriends," you state remembering every guy you brought to him.
"He cannot be trusted. I can't trust him with you. What if you get hurt? What if he betrays you? He's known for going from girl to girl and I will not have you be his next victim," he rants.
"He's not like that-"
"Don't stick up for him. I've known him for a long time and he's no good. He's not going near you," he finishes expecting this to be the end of the conversation.
"You can't tell me what to do. You're not dad-" you were cut off by a dark glare from your older brother. You've never seen him act like this. His once lively eyes were turning dark and his intimidating glare was scaring you. Your voice began to get shaky as he walked over to you.
"You're not seeing him again and that's final," he says before leaving your bedroom. You sigh and take a seat on your bed.
You and your brother have never fought like this. Sure, you guys have said some rude things before, but he has never turned this dark before. And you have never brought up your father before.
Your father was a drunk who abandoned you a couple years back leaving you, your older brother, your mother, and your older sister who was married and had a couple kids of her own, but you haven't seen her in months. You felt as if your family was falling apart. Your mother has never been the same ever since your father left, your sister has been very distant ever since she got married, and your brother it becoming more and more controlling. You felt like you were on a leash.
But you are not listening to him. You really like Spot and he really likes you, too. He's not going to break you two up.
....
"Did ya tell ya brodda?" Spot asks as you two walk to the Brooklyn docks after Spot finished selling his papers.
"Yep and he didn't like it," you responded.
"What'd he say?"
"He told me he doesn't trust you and that I'm not allowed to see you," you told him.
"So, I'm guessin' ya not listenin' ta 'im," Sot infers as you shake your head.
"He's getting more and more controlling each day," you repeated your previous thoughts. "But we had a huge fight last night about it. It was the first time I ever brought up my father," you continue. "Did I make the right choice? I just feel bad for going against him even after seeing how angry he is about it. He was a totally different person," you finished.
"Listen, I don't want ya brodda upset, but I also don't wanna lose ya."
"I don't want to lose you either, and if I listen to him, I will," you two finish talking and just continue walking before you noticed how late it has gotten.
"I have to go or else he'll be suspicious," you tell Spot as you both stop walking.
"Meet me tanight at da bridge," Spot tells you before you two exchange good byes.
You soon make it home just in time for your brother to come home, also.
"So, did ya tell Spot ya can't be with him anymore?" your brother starts and you nod hoping he gets the hint that you don't want to elaborate. "Was he upset-"
"Can we not talk about this?" you stop and turn to him hoping to change the conversation topic. He holds his hands up in surrender as you start to speak, changing the conversation. You two continue to talk for a while before you both call it a night.
You laid in your bed fully awake, just waiting for the right time to leave. You get up and heard your brother and mother were both asleep giving you the go ahead to leave. You climbed out of the window and down the fire escape making your way to the bridge.
"Hey," you greeted Spot.
"Hey," he replied giving you a quick peck on the lips before you guys begin to walk. "Do ya remember the newsie strike?" he says after a moment.
"How could I forget? The large crowds, Crutchy getting caught, Governor Roosevelt stopping by," you remember.
"Don't forget how Jack almost left."
"Almost. I'm glad he didn't."
"Me too. He's a good leadah," Spot compliments.
"He couldn't have done it without you," you reply looking up at him. He stops and turns towards you as you do the same. He leans down and kisses you lightly on the lips.
"(Y/N)?" you hear an all too familiar voice ask anger evident in his voice. You break away and turn towards the voice seeing your brother. You step back from Spot as your brother walks up to Spot rather quickly and throws a punch at his jaw making Spot stagger back.
You brother was taller and more muscular than Spot, but nothing could have stopped Spot from firing one back at him and soon, they were fighting. You screamed at both of them to stop, but they weren't listening. You walked up to them knowing enough is enough and tried to grab at Spot, but Spot, not knowing it was you, threw a punch knocking you on the ground. Your brother's eyes widened in shock as Spot's did the same.
"What the heck? Look what you just did," your brother yelled at Spot as he made his way over to aid you.
"I'm so sorry. It was an accident," Spot says not believing he actually hurt you physically. Spot rushed to you side, too, seeing a black eye. Your opposite eye opened seeing both of them. You shuddered away from Spot and to your brother.
"(Y/N), I'm so sorry. It was an accident. Ya have ta believe me," Spot pleads, but you ignored him and looked up to your brother with tears in your eyes.
"Can we go home now?" you ask with a tear cascading down your cheek tearing Spot in two.
"Let's go," your brother picked you up and helped you get away from Spot. Spot watched you and your brother walk away knowing he lost you for good. He walked over to a brick wall and threw a punch yelling in frustration with himself however immediately regretting feeling the ache in his knuckles from the brick wall.
You took a seat on your bed followed by your brother.
"I'm sorry," you broke the silence as tear kept falling down your cheeks. "You were right. Spot's just going to hurt me when he gets angry," you continue.
"It's okay. I'm just glad we are both okay and that you ended it before it got worst," your brother answers. You leaned your head on his shoulder before he winced in pain.
"I'm sorry. Here, I'll clean you up," you said standing up and retrieving a wet cloth to rid him of the blood and dirt.
A-n- I'm planning on a part 2 for this one btw. I hope you liked it! Please vote and comment! Thank you all! Love you all!
