88 - Davey

(3rd Person)

"Did you hear what happened to him? His father got hurt and now he's working as a newsie," someone whispers however loud enough for her to hear.

"She's dating him? He's a newsie," more people whispered, staring at her as she walked through the halls.

"Why would she talk to them?"

"I heard she's one, too," rumors spread throughout her school like wildfire. They treated her like she was a nothing. They gave her disgusted looks, and they wouldn't talk to her. Some would even leave the room upon seeing her. She tried to ignore it, but she couldn't. It stung knowing everyone hated her, and the hateful looks and words cut deep. Every day was more torture.

She met Davey at school. They bumped into each other, and they instantly clicked. He is perfect in every single way. Once his father got fired, he dropped out of school and became a newsie, but they didn't stop seeing each other. They still hung out and talked like always.

Except that she got bullied. Nobody approved of her dating a newsie even though he was just working until his father healed. Her friends whom she thought wouldn't mind her dating him turned on her. Everyone called her names and gave her disgusted looks.

"Hey, (Y/N)," someone called. She turned towards the voice and saw Ben Riley, the boy she liked before Davey. He was very tall and muscular. He had bright, green eyes and dark brown hair which looked black. He was nice, friendly, and smart, but he hang around the popular group.

"Hey, Ben," she greeted.

"I was wondering if you wanted to go out to dinner with me tonight," he says scratching the back of his neck in a nervous way.

"I'm sorry, I already have a boyfriend," she tells him looking down.

"Oh right. You're dating Davey Jacobs right?" he asks connecting the dots.

"Yeah," she plays with her hands.

"Well, I'll see you around?"

"Of course," she says before he walks away. She sighs and walks the other direction.

....

She walks through the halls for the last time that day hearing giggles, whispers, and staring directed towards her. She reached the doors at least pushing past them and to the streets. Then slowed her pace and took a deep breath relieved that it's all over for right now.

"Hey," Davey calls, but she walks right past him. His smile begins to fade as he follows her away from school. She looks around before turning towards him.

"Hey," she says with a fake smile, but he could see right through it.

"What's the matter," he asks. Then she lost it. A silent tear rolled down her cheek followed by many more. He pulled her towards him letting her cry on him. She pulls away once she stops.

"I can't do this," she whispers before taking more deep breaths trying to calm herself down.

"What do you mean?" he asks worriedly, but she just repeats herself.

"I can't do this. This isn't working."

"What is 'this'?"

"Us! I think we need to beak up," she looks up at him as his bright, blue eyes become dim.

"Why?" he asks wanting to fix whatever was making her react like this. "Whatever it is, I can fix it-"

"No you can't. This can't be fixed. Please, Davey, don't make this any harder than it is," she quiets down. He looks away from.

"Have a nice life," he says before brushing past her, a bit of anger evident in his voice. She wipes her face and walks back towards the school.

....

"Ben," she calls gaining his attention.

"Hey, (Y/N), what's up?" he asks.

"I was just wondering if I could still take you up on that offer for tonight," she says in more of a questions.

"Sure. I'll come by your house at around 7," he smiles before walking away. She smiles back and walks home.

She gets home and walks up to her room throwing herself on her bed. She was upset to say the least. She didn't want to end things with Davey, but she couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't take the constant whispering and giggling. Hopefully, after going out with Ben, it will all be over.

....

When her and Ben reached Tibby's, she expected a nice dinner with some laughter and talking. What she didn't expect was a double date with the meanest girl, Stella, and her jerk of a boyfriend, Russell. She thought she could tolerate them, but then the conversation started. From money, to school, and then to newsies.

She stayed quiet most of the night, but as Stella began talking, she lost control.

"Who knows what they are up to! They are all theives. I'm sure their parents were all drunks, and now dead," Stella began. "Rotten to the core. All of them-"

"That's rich coming from you," she remarked cutting Stella off.

"Excuse me?" Stella turned towards her. By now, they were all staring at her.

"You heard me. You know nothing about them. Sure, they had a bit of bad luck. Sure, they may need to take a little bit so they can keep themselves alive, but they are a heck of a lot better than you. To be honest, I'd rather spend my Friday night- or every night- with them than you," she finishes her rant. All they could do was stare at her. She stood up from her seat and walked out the door not looking back. A few tears escaped her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away.

She makes it to her destination- the newsies' lodging house- and walks in slowly not knowing what to expect.

"(Y/N), what are you doing here?" Davey asks as heads turn towards her.

"Can I talk to you?" she asks her voice breaking at the end.

"Of course," she leads him outside as the newsies carry on with whatever they were doing. She leads him to an alley nearby as the sun began setting. "What do you need to talk to me about?" he asks starting the conversation.

"I'm sorry. I made a mistake. I was getting bullied at school for dating you, and I thought the best think to do was leave and run away, but it's not. I'm so sorry. I don't want to be without you anymore," she finishes looking up at him waiting for any kind of response. Tears keep rolling down her cheeks. He walks up to her and pulls her towards him, wrapping his arms around her. She wraps her arms around him in response.

"It's okay. Everything is going to be okay," he kisses the top of her head. She pulls away from him before he cups her cheek connected his lips to hers. Their lips move in sync as her arms grab a hold of his neck. He pulls away.

"I love you," she wispers keeping eye contact with him.

"I love you, too."

A-N- Can this please become real? That's all I want in life...
