*One Week After the Strike*
"You will marry him whether you like it or not!" her father yells. She storms out of his office and up to her room tired of this day to day argument. They've had this fight many times before- each of them ending in her father's favor.
She collapses on her bed as tears cascaded down her cheeks uncontrollably. In one week, she'll be married to Edward Dame and kissing her dreams good bye. But she wasn't ready. She absolutely did not want to be a wife. She wasn't ready to give up her dream of traveling.
Rocks bounced off her window again and again. She wiped her tears away and opened her window seeing Jack at the bottom.
"What are you doing here?" she asked him. He looked up, but didn't answer. Noticing her tear stained cheeks and knowing she needed someone right now, he grabbed ahold of the tree next to her house. "What are you doing?" she asked as he climbed his way to the top. He slowly made his way down the branches which ended at her window. She stepped back as he reached her window and climbing in.
"What's da maddah?" he ignored her questions.
She sighs and sits down on her bed before answering, "My parents are making me marry him." He takes a seat next to her and drapes an arm around her shoulder letting her lean her head on his shoulder.
Over the past couple of weeks since they met, they've become best friends. She, now having someone to listen and talk to, told him everything and he did the same. They trusted each other more than most people they know. Slowly, she began liking him more and more. She has fallen for him in the small time they've known each other. Although he would never admit it, he's fallen for her, too.
"What am I going to do?" she continued. "I don't want to marry him, but every time I talk to my father, he doesn't listen. All her cares about is our image," she tells him. They remained quiet. Jack didn't know what to say. He didn't know if there was anything he could say. "How come you didn't go?" she asked. He turned his head to look at her with a perplexed look on his face. "How come you didn't go to Santa Fe?" she rephrased.
"I was goin' ta. Afta we won da strike, I had me heart set on it, but I couldn't. I neva thought dere would be somethin' holdin' me back, but I just couldn't leave. I had too many people here dat I couldn't lose," he replied keeping his eyes on her.
"Like who?" she questioned.
"Like you," he smiled at her which she returned.
"Do you think you will ever go to Santa Fe?"
"Maybe one day."
*A Week Later*
Her mother placed her pearl necklace around her neck adding the final touch.
"You look beautiful. Me and you father are so proud. Edward is fine gentlemen," her mother goes on and on with a bright smile on her lips. She keeps quiet with her eyes fixed on the mirror and lips in a straight line. Her sister knocks on the door.
"It's time," she tells them. Her mother gives her a quick kiss on the cheek and made her way with her sister to their seats. She grabs her bouquet and links arms with her father. Soon, the music starts and she's walking down the aisle. She couldn't help herself from wishing it was Jack she was marrying.
....
Jack fixes his tie once more before turning to Davey.
"Are ya sure I look fine?" he frantically asks his best friend.
"Yes. Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Yeah. I really do," he smiles turning his attention to the mirror once more.
"Then let's go."
....
She stands in front of Edward. His eyes on her as the priest goes on and on.
"If there is anyone who objects, speak now or forever hold your peace," the priest says looking out at the crowd. The church is silent, until the doors burst open. Horrified looks from everyone in the room are directed toward the door. Her eyes widened as she sees Jack walk through.
"I object," he exclaimed keeping his gaze on her. A smile makes it's way to her face as she fled from the front of the Church. She runs into his arms as he picks her up spinning her around. "(Y/N), I love ya," he cups her face.
"I love you, too," she replies before crashing her lips into his. The kiss was cut short by the yelling of her father.
"(Y/N) (Y/L/N), get here this instant," he called. She looked away from Jack and towards her father.
"No," she responded. Jack grabs her hand and leads her outside. "Jack, where are we going?" she requested as he lead her through the streets.
"Santa Fe."
