(3rd Person)
She walked slowly through the streets enjoying every bit of Manhattan, New York. She rarely got out, so when she had a chance to slip away from her strict family, she took it. She took advantage of her father always being gone, her hard working big brother, and her bookworm of a sister. She wasn't aloud outside and in the busy corners, but she couldn't stop herself from slipping into the city once her family was gone.
Her father was William Randalf Hearst, the New York newspaper giant. With her father always gone to work, her brother who was at college, her mother dead, and her sister keeping her nose in a book not even noticing if she was there gave her much free time to do anything- well, if it meant staying indoors. Her father does not trust anyone on the street. He looks down on people below him and his family.
She used that free time for things she would not regularly be able to do including exploring the city. She loved the city. She loved different types of people all going different ways. She wished she could be like the children she saw on the street. Free of her father's rules and away from her lonely house.
She turned a corner keeping her gaze ahead of her watching the wagons ride by and the newsies call out their headlines. One newsie caught her eye. He was tall with dark brown hair and striking blue eyes. He walked alongside a little boy not older than ten, most likely his little brother. She couldn't stop herself from staring. He was perfect in every way. From his bright smile to the way he sold every paper.
But then he stopped selling. He stopped yelling. The little boy that was once by his side was gone as did the people crowded around him. He face turned in shock as an out of control horse ran towards him.
Without thinking, she ran to him knocking him out of the way and sending them both to the ground as the horse ran by not touching either one of them. The people began walking again and the noises went back to normal.
She sat up and turned to his body lying on the ground. She moved a piece of his brown hair as she softly stroked his jawline making sure he was breathing and without a scratch. His eyes slowly opened seeing the girl kneeling beside him.
"What I'd give to stay with you," she thought out loud. She gave him a small smile as they shared eye contact for a second before she heard his brother.
"Davey!" the little boy called making her look up to see him running towards them. She stood up and ran away not wanting anyone to know in fear of her father finding out as he turned to his brother not being able to see where she ran away to. She disappeared around the corner slowly peeking around to see him once more before she leaves.
"Davey! Are you okay?" the child asks kneeling next to him helping him stand.
"A girl. She saved me," Davey replied rubbing the side of his head.
"I didn't see a girl save you. C'mon Davey, we have to finish selling," the little boy urged him to continue selling. He started walking away from where he was saved.
She sighed as she turned away from the beautiful boy. Somehow, she felt like things were going to change. She wanted things to change. She wanted to be free like him. To see him smile at her. Talk to her. Walk with her- the simplest things done with him. She wanted to be part of his world. She knew that she will never be able to get him off her mind and part of her never wanted to.
