62 - Kayleigh's Contest
This one is for KayleighWilson5's contest! I decided that I couldn't pick just one pair, so I did a little one for each and you can continue it or something. So, I hope this wins and I hope you like it!
(3rd Person)
She walked along the bridge tring to sell her papers, and trying to catch a glimpse of the 'King of Brooklyn'. She would never admit it, even though everybody already knew, she has taken a great liking to that cocky newsie. Something about him made her feel free and excited. Maybe it was his careless attitude or the gleam in his eye. She couldn't stop thinking of him. His smirk always plastered on his face. The look of concentration as he aims his slingshot. He always knows the right things to say and do to make her lose control inside.
She walked further and found him against the railing with his arm draped over another girl. She stopped, but she couldn't look away and she couldn't walk away. He moved his arm and kissed her on the lips. She couldn't take it anymore. She finally, looked away and turned around. She walked away without either of them noticing her. A small tear slid down her face. She quickly wiped it away.
She knew she should've known. She knew he was never hers to lose. She just wanted to know why. Why did he do this to her? One night, they are fooling around and she thinks that maybe she has a chance. But then, the next morning, he's kissing another girl. He was playing with her feelings and she was sick of it. She was done with crying over every girl that he kisses. She was done caring about him.
She walked to the lodging house after selling her papers. She was immediately greeted with the smell of cigars and the laughter shared by all her friends. She walked over to where Kayleigh and Jack were and joined their conversation.
"Where are the others?" she asked noticing the lack of people in the room.
"Amanda and Blink are still selling papers and Abby and Skittery are off somewhere," Kayleigh answered her.
Spot pulled away from the girl and looked towards the other side of the bridge. He saw someone walking away and soon recognized that person to be Jennifer. He moves the girl out of the way as he walks away leaving her behind and following after Jennifer. He sees her walk into the lodging house, but he stays outside. He debates whether or not to go in. What does he say to her? Does he appologize? Should he just walk away? He begins to doubt himself on everything. Maybe coming here was a mistake.
He turns around and walks away.
....
Kayleigh goes on about something her and Jack were talking about. But he wasn't paying attention. He watched as her eyes lit up when she talked about things she liked and how she smiled and laughed when a funny part came up. He smiled upon seeing her smile and laughed upon hearing her laugh. Without thinking, Jack crashed his lips into Kayleigh's when she was mid-sentence. She immediately kissed back and wrapped her arms around his neck. They pulled away.
"What was that for?" she laughed.
"Just 'cause," he smiled.
....
"Nude corpse found! Maniac on the loose!" Amanda yells struggling to sell her last paper. Blink comes over to her all done with selling his own. "I can't sell this last paper," she whines giving up on yelling. She walks over to Blink as they sit down on the Horace Greenly statue. "Thanks for selling with me," she starts the conversation looking over at me.
"Anything for ya," he replies giving her a small smile which she returns. The sun started to go down as they stayed there sitting next to each other enjoying each other's presence.
....
"You don't have to walk me home," Abby tells Skittery as they walk towards her house.
"I know, but I want ta," he replies. She starts shivering from the cold weather, so her wraps his arm around her waist pulling her closer. They turn the corner and is immediately greeted by Oscar and Morris.
"Why, hello, Abby," Oscar starts. "What's a pretty girl like you walking around with a guy like him?" he asked enphasizing the 'him'. She could feel Skittery tense.
"I don't get it, Abby. Your rich and pretty and yet you choose to hang around guys like that. They go no where in life. They're lucky if the get a quarter a day," Morris continues. Abby could tell how angry Skittery was getting. Abby leads Skittery away from them before they started something.
"How come ya didn't answer 'em?" Skittery asks wanting to know the answer.
"I've learned not to waist my breath on the apes," she simply replies.
"Well, will ya answer me?" he stops walking. She turns and faces him. "Why do ya hang 'round me? Ya Seitz's daughta," Skittery goes on.
"I'm not his daughter. I'm his neice-"
"Same thin'."
"No, it's not the 'same thing'. I didn't ask to be rich. I wasn't born rich," Abby starts to raise her voice.
"What do ya mean ya weren't born rich?" Skittery asks.
"My parents weren't rich. We lived in California and we didn't have any money. Once my parents died, I moved here," she explains before she continues walking. "I didn't even want to come here," she mutters, but Skittery could hear. Just thinking about her family made her feel bad, but when he was yelling at her for being rich, it made her feel even worse.
He exhales and walks over to her, "I'm sorry."
"It's fine and to answer your question, money doesn't matter to me. I hang around you because I like you, and I want to," she confesses.
"I like youse, too," he admnits before gently kissing her on the lips. He wrapped his arms around her waist as she wraps her arms around his neck pulling him closer. They both pull away before he pulls her in for a hug she couldn't deny.
I know some parts are long and some parts are really short... and for the part when Jack's like "Just 'cause" I was about to put in "I just love ya" but I didn't want to rush things since they weren't even together yet in the book... I hope you liked it tho! Please like and comment! Thank you all! Love you all!
