59 - Davey

(3rd Person)

She was deeply, fully, terribly in love with him. There's nothing else to say. She smiled from thinking of his smile. She laughed from thinking of his laugh. And she hurt herself even more feeling this way.

But she couldn't help it.

She couldn't help wanting to see him everyday. She couldn't help wanting to be his. She couldn't help always thinking of him. It just... happened. One day everything clicked and she fell helplessly. She fell for his eyes, his laugh, his smile- everything.

She knew she was just hurting herself. She knew that he was never to be hers. She felt as if she was hugging a cactus. With every word he said and every breath he took, she hugged tighter and tighter.

She spends all night laying in bed and staring up at the ceiling or out the window thinking of him. Thinking of perfect scenerios that she wished would come true. Thinking of how it would feel to fall asleep in his arms. Thinking of how it felt to be loved by him.

....

She woke up early this morning wanting to get an early start of the day. She got dressed and ate her breakfast before walking outside. Today was Sunday, so the newsboys had today off. Her parents were also away for the weekend and won't be home until tomorrow night. She walked to the lodging house where she knew they would be as they are every Sunday. And she was right. Davey and most of the newsies were chatting and hanging out there.

"Hey, (Y/N)," Davey calls as she walks up to him.

"Hello," she replied tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. She takes the seat next to him as the boys start a new conversation. She tried her best to follow along, but every now and then, her gaze would shift to Davey and stay there. He would talk and laugh as his blue eyes would brighten. She realizes her stare and quickly looks away hoping no one noticed. She looked down at her hands.

"(Y/N)," Jack says as her head snaps up. She look at him and gives him her full- most of her attention. "Da newsies ah havin' a little get tagedda at Medda's tanight. You should come," he finishes and she nods. She knew Davey would be there, so she couldn't help it.

....

She finishes getting ready and leaves her apartment heading straight for Medda's. She was beyond excited. Maybe something will happen. Maybe tonight will be different. Maybe everything will turn out perfect. Her hopes were high as she walks into Irving Hall. She walks over and greet the boys before taking a seat next to Davey.

The night was getting shorter and her hopes were fading. She stands up and says 'good bye' to the boys. She was done pretending as if something will happen. It killed her sitting there with him only a foot away. It killed her having to walk away, but she had to. She had to get over him.

"Wait," an all too familiar voice said before she could walk out. He grabbed her wrist and turned her around. "Before you leave, may I have this last dance?" he asked holding out a hand to take. She blushed and giggled taking his hand.

"Of course," she answers. He leads them over to where the other couples were dancing. She placed a hand on his shoulder as he placed a hand on her waist. They held each other's other hand as they danced. The song ended too soon and they broke apart.

"Do you want me to walk you home?" he asked as they walked to the door.

"Sure," she replied as they continued outside. The winters in Manhattan were harsh and she found herself shivering from the weather. He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her closer to keep her warm. Snow was falling delicately on the pavement as they reached her apartment. They walked inside and climbed the flights of stairs that led to her floor. "Do want to come in? It's cold outside and I can make us something to drink," she started hoping he'll stay.

"Sure," he replied taking a step inside. She made them hot cocoa as they sat at her table just talking and laughing the night away.

"It's getting late," he started. "I should get back to my apartment," he finishes standing up. They walk to her door and she opens it for him although the last thing she wanted him to do was leave. He was at her door, before he stops and turns around. She was about to speak before his lips crashed into hers. She wrapped her arms around his neck as his arms wrapped around her waist as their lips moved in sync.

She didn't know that, secretly, he loved her too. I guess some things are meant to be.
