47 - Race

This one is for Ember1899! I didn't know what to have you guys fight about so I put something random in. I hope you like it! Please vote and comment! Thank you all! Love you all!

"Why can't I just go?" I raise my voice at my twin brother, Spot. I was asked by one of the Brooklyn newsies, Moose (who's real name is Mason) to go on a date with him. Mason was about six feet tall and muscular. He had short, dark brown hair that almost looks black and green eyes. He was charming and has a great smile. All the girls swoon over him and I must admit I have had a crush on him for a couple of months.

"Because I said so," he answers raising his voice louder than mine.

"Wow, Spot. You should be a judge," I remark. I could see his anger building up as he inhales and exhales. "Do you not trust me or something?" I lower my voice already tired of fighting.

"No," he lies. "I just don't trust 'im," he tries to cover up his lie.

"You're such a liar. He's one of your own newsies! He's your best friend in the group! Of course you trust him! You don't trust me," I fold my arms over my chest. Just then the other newsies, including Moose, came into the newsboys lodging house where Spot and I were fighting.

"Moose, I need ta talk to ya," Spot calls not breaking eye contact with me. My blood boiled as I knew what he was going to say. Moose came up to the two of us giving me a small smile as he walked up which I returned even though I know Spot's watching. "So, I hoid ya plannin' ta take me sista out," Spot starts and Moose nods. "Too bad. I don't want ya eva near my sista again," Spot raises his voice. Moose looks towards me, but I avoid his gaze and look at the ground.

"Fine, if dat's whatcha want," Moose says emotionless and walks out. I look up at Spot and see him watching Moose leave.

"You're the worst brother. I hate you," I tell him before walking out myself. I ran out of the lodging house as the tears sting my eyes. Moose hates me now. He probably lost his position as second in command. He wants nothing to do with me and it's Spot fault. I notice I'm in Manhattan, so I run to the nearest alley and sit down. I don't know Manhattan very well. Spot never lets me leave Brooklyn. I finally start to calm down as a familiar face comes up to me.

"Sas?" Mush asks sitting next to me. "What 'appened?" he notices me tears.

"Nothing, I just had a little fight with Spot, so I ran out an now I'm lost and it's getting dark," I explain.

"Come wit me ta da lodgin' house. You can stay dere and I'll bring ya ta Spot in da mornin'," he tells me.

"Thanks, Mush."

"No problem." I walk with Mush to the lodging house as we talk about nothing. We finally arrive and walk in. I first see Race winning in a card game and immediately regret my decision. Racetrack and I have always had a bad relationship. I hate him and he hates me.

"On second thought, I could just find my way back," I turn around and face Mush. He looks past me and sees Race. Everyone knows how me and Race feel about each other.

"One night won't kill ya," Mush says taking my shoulders and turning me around.

"It just might," I mumble. All the boys' heads turn upon hearing Mush's voice.

"Sas is havin' some problems wit Spot so she's just stayin' hea foa tanight," Mush explains. I looked at Race and saw him exhale not liking that I'm staying.

....

"I just don't know why ya would invite 'er even if she is havin' problems. Ya know we don't like each odda. I don't want 'er hea," Race whines.

"It's fine wit da rest of us, so your out-voted," Jack steps in. They don't notice that I can hear them from my bed. "Just go ta bed," Jack tells him. Jack climbs into bed, but Race goes up to the roof, probably not wanting to be in the same room with me. I sit up and see that everyone is asleep so I step out of bed and make my way up to the roof. I see Race with a cigar hanging out of his mouth and leaning over the side watching the city. I walk closer and he hears me. He turns around.

"What are ya doin' here?" he asks. I don't even know why I'm up here.

"Why do you hate me so much?" I ask all of a sudden walking closer to him.

"Why do you hate me so much?" he asks me back emphasizing the 'you' and 'me'.

"I asked you first." He stays silent for a second.

"I dunno. Because you hate me, I guess I just started hatin' ya back," he answers turning his attention back to the view. "Your turn," he tells me as I lean over the side next to him.

"I don't know. I don't even think I hate you anymore," I smile a little looking at him. What has gotten into me? Surprising both of us, I leaned over and attached my lips to his.

And he kissed back.
