"So would'ya like ta come?" he asks me as I walked with him. He needed to sell his papers, but he said he needed to talk to me, too. He asked me to go to Medda's with him for a little get-together the newsies were having.

"Sure," I agreed to my best friend. I'm ecstatic that he asked. We have been best friends for so long and I have been in love with him for all those years. He doesn't know it, though. I've been wanting to tell him so many times, but either I back down losing all courage or he introduces me to a new girl he has.

"That's great. I really want ta intraduce ya ta someone," he continues.

"Who?"

"Dis goil I met. She's goigeous. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She's poifect," he goes on about this girl while deep inside those words put a dent in my heart. And here I thought I could at least tell him! He keeps on talking, but I don't hear a thing and frankly, I don't want to. From all I heard, she's everything I'm not. "Sherlyn?" Jack called bringing me back to reality.

"Yes?"

"I said I have ta get goin'. I'll talk ta ya lata," he said before walking away. I walked back to my apartment building, but I was soon interupted by Grover. Grover is my best friend, other than the newsies. I tell him everything including Jack.

"Hey, Grover," I called to him.

"Hey," he replied. "How was Jack?" He asked. An idea popped into my head as we walked by each other.

"Would you like to come with me to Medda's for a newsie party?" I asked sweetly avoiding his question.

"What's the catch?" he knows me so well...

"Jack asked me to go and I thought it would be the perfect oppurtunity to tell him, but then he started talking about this girl he met-"

"So you want me to with you to make Jack jealous," he finished my sentence.

"Yes," I drew out the small word.

"Okay, I'll go," he simply agrees before I give him a hug.

....

We walk into Medda's as the smell of smoke and the sounds of laughing and talking hit us. I look over the crowd of people and finally spot Jack talking to this blonde next to him. I grab ahold of Grover and laugh as we walk up to Jack hoping Grover plays along. Jack looked up at us and quirked an eyebrow as he looked at Grover.

"Hey, Jack," I called gaining his attention.

"Hey, Sherlyn," he tells me. "This is Sydney," he points to the blonde.

"Hello, Sydney. It's so nice to finally meet you. Jack has told me so much about you," I partly lie. "Jack, Sydney, this is Grover," I introduce him. They exchange 'hellos' before I grabbed Grover and sat down next to Jack.

I flirted more and more with Grover as he played along making it sound like we were an actual couple. Sydney seemed out of place as she kept to herself only speaking when spoken too. I could see Jack eyeing Grover out of the corner of my eye.

"Sherlyn, can I talk to ya?" Jack finally speaks up. I mumble a small 'yes' before standing up and walking behind Jeack towards the door. I turn around once more to give Grover a thumbs up about our plan. Jack leads me to the alley next to Medda's.

"What did you want to talk about?" I asked sweetly.

"Are you and Grover tagetha?" he comes right out. I could lie and see what he does or tell the truth. What if I tell the truth and he doesn't say what I think he is going to say? What if I lie and that lie stops him from saying what I want him to say?

"Are you with Sydney?" I asked back.

"I asked ya foist," he states. I take a deep breath.

"No," I tell the truth.

"Good," he says simply before grabbing my waist gently and bringing his lips to my own. Our lips moved insync as I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him in deeper. Butterflies roamed in my stomach as electricity surged through me from his touch. He tilts his head to the side to deepen the kiss even more. We both pull away to catch our breaths, but he doesn't let go.

"What about Sydney?" I whisper hoping I didn't ruin the moment.

"She's just a friend," he tells me before pulling me in for another kiss. 'My plan worked' I thought to myself as his lips moved against mine.
