3rd Person
Ever since Dodge-ball, Kayleigh has not been able to find her ring, and she was not getting used to the naked feeling on her finger while she strolled through the hallways the next day, eager to get to Journalism Club.
Kayleigh looks up, seeing her club gathered around the door to the classroom they use. All heads turned to Kayleigh with worried expressions plastered on their faces while Kayleigh read the sign hanging on the door. The sign was a piece of paper with the words "Journalism Club closed" written in black marker.
"What are we going to do?" Davey sighs, turning to Kayleigh while the others nodded in agreement. The last plan they had was to just do nothing and hope Pulitzer was bluffing- but he wasn't. Kayleigh looked around the group seeing her friends and acquaintances. Seeing Abby giving worried faces to Skittery who gave her a small smile, calming her down a little. She looked at Anna who instinctively grabbed a few of Crutchy's fingers in a worried way. She looked at Jack who's full attention was on her, admiring every attribute.
Then she though of her history project, and new what to do.
"Abby," she called, gaining her attention, "do you remember what the newsies did to get the word out about the rally?" Kayleigh asks before Abby nodded. Abby's eyes grew wide as she caught on to what Kayleigh was thinking.
"What are you thinking?" Anna asks curiously, not getting what Kayleigh was thinking.
"We make our own newspaper," Jack answers, speaking Kayleigh's thoughts exactly. Everyone looked at each other, some sharing nods and others sharing quirked eyebrows, not knowing how to do so.
"Like Jack said, we make our own newspaper to get word out and encourage everyone to stand up against Pulitzer. We could even protest if we need to," Kayleigh explains. "We can't let Pulitzer take everything away from us. This is our school, too, and we need to stand up for what we want," Kayleigh goes on, trying to spark excitement in the small group. By now, everyone was excited.
"So, how do we start?" Crutchy wonders earning a brilliant grin from Kayleigh while ideas flew through her head.
....
"Kayleigh," Jack calls while everyone was switching classes. He sped up to catch up to her while she turned to him, giving him her full attention.
"What's up?" Kayleigh asks, wondering why he stopped her.
"I just wanted to give you something," Jack says while he fished through his jean pockets to find what he was looking for. After a moment or two, he pulled out her ring. Her eyes widened in surprise and happiness as he placed the intricate ring in her hand.
"Thank you!" Kayleigh smiles, placing the ring on her finger and giving Jack a hug which he gladly returned. "I can't thank you enough. How'd you find it?"
"I had a bit of time after gym class and I know how important it is to you," Jack explains, scratching the back of his neck in a nervous way.
"You didn't have to do that for me," Kayleigh replies, looking away to hide her slight blush.
"I wanted to," Jack responds, giving her a small smile.
"Seriously, thank you so much. I don't know how I can ever repay you," Kayliegh looks down at her ring admiring it.
"How about you could go out with me. Tonight at Tibby's at 6 o'clock," Jack offers.
"Well, since I do owe you, I guess one night wouldn't hurt," Kayleigh answers. "I'll see you then, Kelly," she speaks before leaving him smiling like an idiot in the middle of the hallway.
