121 - High School Series (Part 2)

A-N- Sorry this is kind of a day late...

Also, after the High School Series, I am going to do another series type thing with OC's, and I'm letting other people in. I'm having kind of like a contest to see who would want to be in it.

If you want to be in it, all you have to do is write me a one-shot with Skittery about anything! Just make sure you include who you would want to be paired up with before hand. Once you've finished writing the one-shot, just message me and I'll read it! My favorites will be able to join!

I want the next series to be a secret, so once you win, I'll tell you and you can help me with your own OC!

So, go write, vote, and comment what ya think! Thank you all! Love you all!

3rd Person

"Where are they?" Kayleigh wonders out loud checking her phone for the tenth time. She was currently seated at Tibby's with Abby next to her waiting for the two other people in their group to arrive.

"I'm sure they're just running late," Abby tries to assure her. Kayleigh rolls her eyes before the bell above the door sounded gaining attention of the small restaurant. Skittery and Jack sauntered into the restaurant and made their way to the table, Jack sitting across from Kayleigh and Skittery in front of Abby.

"Sorry we're late. Jack got... caught up in something," Skittery apologized for them both.

"It's okay," Abby gives him a small smile which he returns before turning to Kayleigh to start speaking about the project.

"So, about the project, I was thinking-"

"Do we really have to talk about it now? It's due in a week and it'll take us an hour to do," Jack cuts her off. He, being the procrastinator he was, only seemed to annoy Kayleigh further who would rather get it done and do a good job.

"I think it's better if we just get it over with rather than have it weighing on our shoulders for the next week," Kayleigh points out. After hearing no response from Jack, Kayeligh continued with her thoughts and ideas about the project.

Every now and then, Abby would steal glances at Skittery seeing him concentrated on anything else besides Kayleigh while she spoke. But sometimes he'd catch her. She quickly looked away hoping he didn't notice her staring, but he did. He smiled to himself before turning back to whatever caught his attention.

Jack would often roll his eyes at the two ready for them to just get together. He turned to Kayleigh, getting lost in her blue eyes rather than the conversation she has been trying to start with the project.

"Jack," she called knocking him out of concentration. "Are you listening?" she asked wanting to just give up on working with the two boys.

"Yeah, sorry," he apologized trying his hardest to start focusing on what she was saying rather than her bright blue eyes.

But he couldn't.  He found himself drifting off while she spoke. Something about her just held onto him and wouldn't let him go. He loved the way her eyes lit up when she got interested in something or when she talked about something she loved. He, also, began to admire her silvery voice.

"How does that sound?" she asks him even though he hasn't been paying attention.

"Sounds good," he tries to please- which he does. He offers her a small smile which she returns before looking back down at her notebook.

Even as much as he seemed to annoy her, he took a deep liking to this curly, brown-haired girl. And he knows he could never stand a chance, but he couldn't help but wish he did.

....

"Are you okay, Kayleigh," Davey asks walking over to where she was sitting and sitting down next to her.

"Yeah, why?" Kayleigh asks not looking up from what she was doing.

"No reason," Davey dismisses his curiosity on the subject. "What happened yesterday at Tibby's?" Davey questions looking at the newsies in the back of the room.

"Nothing. Why?" she asks back again.

"Jack keeps looking over at you, and Skittery and Abby keep trying to hide their own stares and smiles," Davey explains looking back at Kayleigh.

"Beats me," she speaks without another thought. "I don't think it's that much of a big deal," she tells him stopping what she is doing to look up at him.

"It's just that-"

"Did you finish the article?" Kayleigh cuts him off hoping to change the subject.

"Yeah," he answers handing her a hard copy.

"Awesome. We'll put this in for the Monday edition," she smiles putting the hard copy of the article with her notebook.
