118 - Mush

Hey I know I've been really bad with updating but I am now on Christmas break, so I should have more time to write!

So, vote and comment what ya think! Thank you all! Love you all!

3rd Person

The truth: she missed Mush. More than anything. She yearned for his touch. For his kiss. And she missed the days where she would lay in his arms until the morning light poured into the room. Or the days he would do the smallest gesture in the most romantic way making her fall in love with him all over again.

Most of the time, she felt like nothing was right in her life. As if losing him threw off her whole entire world. She never felt at home in her small apartment with her parents and her siblings, because, for some reason, he was her home, and she was homesick.

....

Her midnight shadows began to creep on her again while she sat on her bed, hugging her knees close to her chest. Her arms held onto her legs while she kept her gaze out the window, listening to the silence of the apartment, and feeling the cold air from outside.

And then she thought of Mush- truth was, he never left her mind. He was always there whether she knew it or not. He was a constant reminder of how much she lost, and how much she craved him in the most innocent way. She itched for his touch. She dreamed of holding hands with him. She dreamed of sleeping next to him. Of forehead kisses and looks full of love.

Now that's all over. All of the moments and time spent with him was over. But, she wasn't okay with it. She wasn't at all.

They met two years ago. You could even say it was love at first sight. She bought a paper from Mush, and that was it. Everything was perfect from then on. He was perfect. And he still is. He still is the most wonderful person she has ever known. And why would she give him up? She wonders every night which always brought her to that one night in early September.

The air was getting cooler since fall was right around the corner, and the leaves started to turn a different color like they do every year. Just as the cold came, the darkness came, too. Fear slithered its way into her mind, and made her jealous of every girl, doubting his feelings for her the way she doubted that love even existed- especially if someone ever loved her. He was known for being 'mushy' around the ladies, and she feared he would cheat and leave her for any girl.

She became paranoid, and as much as he tried to calm her mind, she couldn't trust him. And no trust lead to the end of it all. And there's nothing that she regrets more.

And right now, laying all alone while he sleeps soundly in the lodging house, she wishes she could just turn back time to change what happened. To get him back.

....

She keeps her gaze on the ground while she navigates her way through the streets of Manhattan. The city bustled with different people going in all different directions. But as her eyes landed on one person, everything else seemed to go unnoticed.

Mush holds up a newspaper, hawking outrageous headlines, and selling to people here and there. She stops walking, taking a minute to see if his eyes reach hers. He looks back up from a customer and sees her staring back at him. They share eye contact, but he quickly looks away. She does the same knowing she is the last person he wants to see.

She turns around, ready to walk away from her past and try to move on. But she stops herself. As much as she wished she could, she can't move on from him. She can't forget the only person she has ever loved. Taking a deep breath, she turns back around and takes a penny out of her pocket.

"One paper, please," she speaks fiddling with the penny in her hand. He looks up at her, exchanging the penny for a paper, before looking past her and yelling out more headlines as if he didn't know who she was. Her hopes begin to fall as her gaze falls from his face to the ground.

Part of her was already to give up on him, but the other side still held onto the hope. She looks back up at him, taking her 10 seconds of insane courage, and begins to speak.

"Mush, I-"

"Mush," a high-pitched voice calls, cutting her off as another girl walks up to him. "Hey," she smiles.

"Hey," he greets back giving her a peck on the lips right in front of her. The new couple begin to speak as if she didn't exist. Her breath hitched in her throat while tears threatened to fall, and she, not wanting to show him how much she really did miss him, turned around, and walked away.

A small tear escaped her eye and rolled down her cheek. She kept her head down while she tried to wipe the countless tears away. She turned a corner and leaned against the brick wall. She looked back, seeing them still talking, and holding hands remembering when they used to do that.

She took a deep breath, hoping the tears will stop before continuing her walk to her apartment and her family which only felt more like a few rooms and a few people.
