117 - Jack/Davey
3rd Person
"Just go ask her," Davey told his best friend, Jack, as they were in line for papers at the distribution center. For the longest time, Jack has been crushing on a fellow girl newsie, (Y/N), but doesn't have the courage to tell her.
"But what if she doesn't like me back?" Jack wonders, filled with doubt which seemed strange due to his usual cocky attittude.
"You'll never know until you try," Davey answers. "Now go or else you are going to lose your chance," Davey adds after they both receive their papers. She was just about to walk out of the distribution center when Jack, mustering as much courage he could, called after her.
"(Y/N)," he called causing her to turn around.
"Hey," she smiles seeing him run up to her.
"Hey," he says back scratching the back of his neck in a nervous way. "How are you'se?" he begins to make small talk.
"I'm pretty good. How are you?" she asks back wondering what he wanted to talk to her about.
"Listen, (Y/N)...," he stops, taking a deep breath. "I'se really like you'se, and I'se was wonderin' if ya want ta go wit me ta Medda's pahty," he tells her, waiting for a reaction.
"Oh... Jack, I'm really flattered, but no," she says looking down at her feet, hating having to turn him down.
"Oh, okay. I'll see ya 'round den."
"Yeah," she replies before they part ways. Jack lowers his head, beginning to walk to Davey who was waiting for him back at the distribution center.
"What did she say?" Davey asks.
"She said no," Jack tells him keeping his gaze on the ground.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Jack. I thought she'd say yes," Davey slung an arm over his shoulder.
"Yeah. So did I."
....
Davey made his way through the streets of New York knowing just where to find (Y/N). He wanted to speak to her to maybe change her mind about Jack and to find out why she said no in the first place.
He began to slow down as he sees her sell her last paper at her usual selling spot. She turns around, seeing Davey walk up to her as a small smile formed on her lips.
"Hey, Davey," she smiles.
"Hey," he returns the small smile.
"So, what are you doing here?" she asks as they begin their walk back to the lodging house.
"Well, I was just wondering why did you turn down Jack?" he questions looking over to her.
"Because, I don't like him like that," she answers.
"But, you could have gone with him as friends," Davey tells her showing her different options.
"Listen, Davey, I think it's great that you care enough to come talk to me, but I don't want to go with him," she tells him as he stops walking, sighing as she continues walking.
....
Newsies from all around New York were gathered together at Medda's sharing laughs, talking, drinking, and smoking. Jack sat at a table with Davey, Race, and Crutchy. Just as Jack was about to speak, one of the double doors opened, revealing (Y/N). She saunters into the newsie-filled room, stopping at Davey's table, and taking a seat.
"Hey," she smiled, pulling her chair in.
"Hey," they replied, some with small waves, and Jack with no emotion at all. Everyone could tell he was a little distant from her, but no one said a thing about it.
The conversation began with Jack saying small things every now and then, before a slow song began to play. The newsies with their girls began to dance as Davey's table stayed where they were.
"Davey, do you want to dance?" she asks gaining Jack's attention.
Davey looked back at Jack seeing him look away before replying, "Sure." He grabbed her hand as she led him to the designated dancing area with the other couple dancing. He softly placed his hands on her waist, as hers wrapped around his neck.
"Why did you ask me to dance?" Davey wonders out loud wanting to know if she just wanted to bother Jack.
"I'm not going to let Jack ruin my night. Yes, I denied him, but he is taking it terribly, and he shouldn't be acting like a child," she explains.
"You could have just gone with him," Davey brings it up again as she sighs in annoyance.
"No, I couldn't have-"
"But why not-"
"Because I like you!" she cuts him off, both of their eyes growing wide. She backs away from him, running back stage.
"(Y/N), wait," Davey calls, running after her.
So, this one is going to have a part 2 like the Mush/Kid Bink one and I want you guys to vote on what happens. Does Davey end up liking her? Does she get over Davey because Davey can't be with her because of Jack? Tell me what you think should happen, and get creative with it!
I know I've been really inactive and really bad with updating my stories due to a lack of inspiration. And I decided to close requests.
And the picture above is of my U.S. History textbook. When you find the scabs in your high school textbook, but nothing about the newsies :(
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this little one-shot! Please vote and comment what ya think! Thank you all so so very much! Love you all!
