"What does Santa Fe have that Manhattan doesn't?" Davey asks still not being to comprehend how much Jack desired to leave. But as much as Jack cared about these boys who he's fighting for against the 'Great Pulitzer', he loved his sister more. And the fact that she was out there with no one to protect her across the country from him, made him desire the small town even more.
And with that being the main reason, he should tell the boys instead of covering it up with excuses like needing more space and needing more than what he has in Manhattan- which is true. But Jack likes to keep his personal feelings and problems to himself resulting in lies to cover up that part of his life.
So, Jack repeated himself just like he did every other time anyone would ask this question.
Jack and Davey continued selling after that with no words shared between the two. As Davey yelled exaggerated headlines- learning from Jack- and Les came back an forth trying to help sell, Jack began to stray from the two. That is, until he heard his name from an all too familiar voice.
"Jack?" he heard turning around to see his little sister, Angel, in the flesh.
"Angel," he smiled not believing it was really her. She ran up to him engulfing him in a hug as if to make up for the years the two have been separated. "What ah ya doin' heah?" he questions confused on how she was able to make it here.
"Jus' called in a few favahs aftah I realized it's been too long," she explains.
"Well, I'm glad ya back," Jack says. "Do ya remembah da boys?" Jack starts the conversation.
"Only some," she answers as Jack leads her to Davey and Les.
"Hey, Davey," Jack calls gaining his attention and Les's. "Dis is mah sistah, Angel. Angel, dis is mah sellin' partnah Davey and his little broddah Les," Jack introduced them.
"I didn't know you had a sister," Davey speaks to Jack.
"I'se been livin' in Santa Fe fah a couple of yeahs," Angel explains as Davey pieces it all together
"Come on. I'm suah da boys'll be happy ta see ya," Jack leads Angel back to the lodging house seeing most of the newsies already there. And, soon, it was as if she never left.
....
"What ah ya doin' ovah heah?" Angel questions Davey, taking a seat next to him and away from the others.
"I don't know. I'm just kind of upset Jack never told us anything about you. I wish he told the truth. About everything," Davey explains.
"Ya know Jack. He likes ta keep dat paht of his life ta 'imself. He's not big on sharin'," Angel tells him.
"I just don't get why though," Davey continues.
"Maybe it's easiah fah 'im," Angel begins to quiet down from her usual loud voice. She turns to Davey as he looks up at her. Her green eyes meet his electrifying blue ones in an instant.
"Is it like that for all the Kellys- or Sullivans?" Davey asks leaning closer to her.
"Not all," she whispers with a small smile. Davey looked down at her lips quickly before looking back up at her emerald eyes. And after they both leaned in a bit more, Davey crashes his lips against hers. She kisses back before they both pull away, each content with the small kiss shared between them.
"So, you're the reason Jack wanted to go to Santa Fe?" she nods. "Can't say that I blame him."
