3rd Person

Rosie slows down her pace as she takes cover in an alley nearby. She sits down against the brick wall as she takes a break from running. She laid down on the dirt ground before closing her eyes. As she begins to fall asleep, the city awakens along with all the sounds of the bustling city.

She hears a newsie hawking his headlines out on the street gaining her attention. Figuring there could be something in the newspaper that could be of use to her, she decides to buy one.

She stood up and took a deep breath. She began to walk out of the alley she previously took comfort in as her social anxiety took over. Her heart began pounding while her hands began sweating and shaking as she stares at the newsie strolling by trying to sell his papers.

She stopped and took in his appearance while trying to calm herself. He was attractive. He had sandy blonde hair and green eyes however one eye was covered by a brown eye patch. He wore a brown cap along with an orange shirt, tan vest, brown pants, and black boots. He wore the blue bandanna around his neck.

He had a bright smile plastered on his face as a few people here and there came and brought a paper.

She took more deep breaths before using her 10 seconds of insane courage as she strolled up to him.

"One paper, please," her shaky voice tells him as she hands him a penny in exchange for a paper. He looks up to his customer becoming instantly mesmerized by her blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. She looks up at him, and seeing him staring, blushes and turns away.

"I'm sorry. My name's Kid Blink. Blink foah short," he holds out his hand for her to shake.

"Rosie," she replies shaking his hand.

"Ah ya knew 'round dis area? Ya don't look fahmiliah," he questions knowing everyone from the area since he sees them everyday.

"Uh...," she looks around making sure the bulls weren't around. "I just got outta the refuge," she answers quietly.

"Ya mean ya escaped?" Blink clarifies as she nods.

"I'm tryin' to look for work," she continues.

"Ya can be a newsie if ya want," Blink offers and she nods again. "Follow me," he begins to walk in the opposite direction he was headed with her on his tail.

*2 Weeks Later*

"20 papes please," she buys her papers at the distribution center. She grabbed the papers and began walking out before Blink grabbed her attention.

"Rosie," he called walking up to her. "Do ya wanna sell wit me today?" Blink asks and she nods. After a week of being a newsie, her social anxiety has been getting better, but being in social situations the whole day still made her nervous.

They walked side by side to his usual selling spot and where they first met. In the two weeks they've known each other, they both have grown to like each other maybe even more than friends. But neither of them could help it.

They soon make it to the selling spot and begin hawking headlines before Kid Blink spots someone coming towards both of them.

"Rosie," he called. "We need ta go," he tells her grabbing her arm and pulling her away.

"Why?" she questions not knowing why he was acting this way.

"Da bulls. Dey're heah," he replies before whistles start sounding causing both of them to bolt in the opposite direction of the sound. They run through the streets before slipping into an abandoned building. They see the bulls run past them signaling they were safe for now.

"Thanks," Rosie tells him as they both take a seat against the wall trying to regain their breath. "For lookin' out for me," she adds.

"I'll always look out foah ya," he replies looking into her blue eyes he fell in love with. She gave him a small smile which he returned before leaning her head on his shoulder. He drapes his arm around her pulling her closer before leaning his head on top of hers.
