Identification Test Day

Dad has been busy making phone calls all day yesterday after the news of the conduct of Identification Test nationwide. Aunt Beth, Uncle Seb and dad has to go to the nearest Identification Department, which happens to be in town. Me, on the other hand, will have to go through the Identification Test at school. All students are required to go to school because of this.

I've been nervous the entire morning when I see students and teachers alike looking calm. There are many government officials, FBI agents and HQ Agents in school.

The day started off at the assembly hall where the appointed head HQ Agent give instructions on how the procedure will work. The teachers will first take attendance to ensure all students are present. Students then will be marched over to the other hall where there are many nurse stations to take blood samples and other simple tests.

To fasten the process, vampires and werewolves are encouraged to go to another hall to perform the Identification Test.

Valerie and I silently follow the small crowd to the hall indicated. I see Jasper ahead of me, looking around for something. The moment he lays his eyes on me, he gives a small smile and let people pass until Val and I reach him.

"Apocalypse, huh?" I question in amusement. Val casts a confused look at me.

"Future sci-fi movies don't lie," he whispers to me.

"I wonder if there are people absent," Val murmurs.

Jasper loses all hints of the previous amusement as he answers her seriously. "I'm 100% sure there are. In case you haven't noticed, a few Agents are pulling a few students to a side for questioning. Bet they're trying to get information about their friends who didn't come today."

I look at where his eyes are locked on and know that he's right. I didn't realise how aware Jasper is of his surroundings. Note to myself to be more careful about any white lies I tell him.

"Damn," Val says in amazement.

I notice one of my teachers and an HQ Agent heading straight towards us.

"Miss Caesar? Please follow me," my Algebra teacher calls me out.

Val's eyes are wide as saucers as she panics. She must have thought that they might suspect of my heritage. My heartbeat rapidly, afraid of what they may do to me. Jasper also looks worried, but he nods in encouragement.

It takes me a second to calm myself down and follow them. I can't get away, even if I want to. There are too many HQ Agents that can intercept me. They're all shifters and I'm basically a human with human strength when I'm not in the water.

They lead me towards one of the smaller classrooms and the HQ Agent wastes no time as she interrogates me.

"When was the last time you saw Polly Morrison?" she asks, black eyes beading straight into my soul.

"What?" I squeak out in surprise.

"Polly Morrison," she repeats, tilting her head to one side which reminds me of a predatory animal. "A few of your classmates says that you've been spending time with her almost everyday."

"Uh, yeah. She asks me to tutor her for Algebra and we meet up after school. Is she in trouble?" I answer truthfully. I know that Polly is a bit odd, but she's been nothing but kind to me. And she's quite a slow learner.

"So you saw her yesterday?" the HQ Agent prods.

I nod.

"Did she give you any indication of where she might be? Has she texted you?"

"I'm not that close to her," I admit. "The last time we texted was during the weekends, when she wanted to meet up to study at a cafe in town."

"Is she failing her grade?"

I give the Agent an odd look, hoping she won't see how nervous I am. "That's what she told me. And she's way behind class..."

"Miss Caesar," my Algebra teacher says gently. "Miss Morrison has been acing my class. She had always been a bright student, until the past few weeks. I confronted her about it when I see that she's been looking sick and down."

"Acing Algebra?" I repeat in confusion. She asked me to tutor her a few weeks ago, now that I think of it.

"She got a 96 on my class text last week," he adds.

I feel like the world has spin even more in confusion. If Polly has been amazing at Algebra, why has she been wasting my time? Jasper and my teacher has been telling me that she looked sick, but she doesn't look that way to me. In fact, she was bubbly and babbled a lot to me.

"Something doesn't add up," the HQ Agent says, looking at me and my teacher. "If she tried to make contact with you or you see her, please inform the authorities. We will take it from here. Now, you may get back to the hall."

"Wait, is she okay? Polly, I mean?" I ask worriedly. The thought of the redhead being in trouble doesn't seem likely to me. It shows how much looks can be deceiving.

"She'll be in trouble if we get our hands on her," the HQ Agent says darkly as she instructs another HQ Agent to lead me back to the hall.

Jasper and Val has already taken their Test, so they wait for me to go through the short process before we hang out at the cafeteria.

"Polly is missing?" Val asks when I tell them what just happened.

"I wonder what she is to make her flee like that," Jasper says with furrowed eyebrows. "The Identification Test will be able to tell that she's different."

"Maybe she's been using the human disguise tech that's illegal," Val suggests.

Jasper shakes his head. "Or she's one of Asmodeus's ally."

It's hard to not notice the bitterness in his voice. Almost everyone who doesn't know what I am have a hatred towards Asmodeus and any supernatural creature that was on his side, besides the vampires. The vampires are the only ones capable of forming human speech to tell their side of the stories. Other supernatural creatures don't as they rely on telepathy for communication

That proves to be a disadvantage in this situation. I pray silently that the Dark pegasus Denise and the others are safely hidden from danger. The world is going chaotic these days.

"I don't get why she's been hanging around you a lot lately. I did notice that she looks physically better by just being with you," Jasper says, looking at me inquiringly. I give a 'no-idea' look.

Val's eyes widen once more, staring right at me. I can almost see the gears running in her brain as Jasper is still trying to figure out the mystery. He thinks that Polly is weirdly clingy to me just because of what she is.

I, on the other hand, am worried that she's been sticking to me because of what I am.
