Flying Horse

A thousand question enter my head. When did this happen? Has this been happening for a while now? Why didn't Val tell me?

I felt upset that my best friend didn't tell me about her and Elise. I wonder briefly if she thinks that I'm judging her just because she likes people of the same gender.

The pair are still kissing while the others hoot and whistle outloud. Everyone's celebrating while I feel miserable that I'm the only one who has not seen the obvious signs.

The glances Val stole whenever we talk with the twins.

How she defended Elise in petty arguments.

How Val appears to be very interested in Elise's lifestyle.

"Break it up you too," Eli yells teasingly, poking his sister's shoulder. "Too much PDA."

"I really like you, Valerie Kingston," Elise says softly into Val's ears. "And I think you know that."

Everyone in the room is starting to ask a lot of questions about when they are going to start dating and how long have they been keeping their relationship a secret.

While Val and Elise was bombarded by questions, I sneak out of the house to get some fresh air. My best and only friend is in a relationship.

And I didn't know about it.

The fact that she kept it a secret from me makes me feel like I'm betrayed.

I need to move to think clearer.

My Siren instincts beg for me to find shelter in the sea, but the rational human side of me state otherwise. I am too far away from the beach or a safe area. The best I can do to satisfy the Siren is to jog into the woods, not thinking that there may be other supernatural beings out there.

Why did Eli and Elise even have a party in the first place? I just realised that they didn't state a purpose for this party, so they were planning to expose this relationship during the party.

My heart pumped faster at how hurt I feel.

How could Val do this to me? I tell her my deepest and darkest secrets. I was there everytime she ranted about being left out among the Minatour kind. I was there for her, always.

She was there for me too.

"No secrets," a 9-year-old Val used to make me promise.

"No secrets my ass," I mumble out loud. The woods is almost pitch black and I'm starting to regret being so far away from the house. My Siren instincts are still restless, thanks to my unstable emotions. I can't help but continue walking away from the house.

"What other secrets are out there, huh?" I ask loudly, almost wanting to scream. I turn towards the nearest tree and poke it. "Can you hear me, Aunt Beth? You did say you can hear me through plants. Liar."

The tree remains unmoving. Of course it won't move.

"This place is too far away from the beach," I grumble in complaint. A nice swim, even in human form, would have ease my Siren side a little.

I look around to notice the small details of the woods. There are no sounds coming from any animals, which is odd since I've always imagined it so. Perhaps no animal dare make a sound or avoid this area since a werewolf is present.

Or should I say werewolves.

I take out my phone to check the time. I've left the house 20 minutes ago, so I better head back now.

Suddenly, my Siren side stirs uncomfortably. I look around to figure out what is distressing my other half. Dad's self-defense lessons come back to me as I stand my ground in a defending stance.

Loud galloping sounds are heading towards my direction. A black creature appears with a loud neigh, almost hitting me. I shriek in surprise as I jump sideways.

"Get out of my way, human!"

I furrow my eyebrows in confusion as an annoyed female voice says in my head. No one has ever been in my head before and it's scaring the hell out of me.

The creature turns to look at me with evil green eyes. That's when I notice a pair of wings attached to the sides of the horse. One wing seems to be broken, which explains why the creature can't fly to safety.

"A flying horse?" I mumble in question, keeping my distance away from the unknown creature.

"I'm not a horse, human! Ugh, why do I even bother? No one can understand me." The black horse stomps its front hooves in frustration, looking back from where she came from.

"If you're not a flying horse, you definitely look like one," I say softly, afraid to offend her.

The horse gives me an odd stare and then realization dawn upon her.

"Oh my Venus! You understand me? What are you?" she asks excitedly, hopping towards me.

I stumble back warily, not trusting an animal that is convinced that I can understand her.

"What..."

A howl indicates danger coming from where the horse came from. The horse neighs frustratingly as she looks back and forth between me and the wolves.

"Stupid werewolves. Look, as Venus's creation, we can communicate. Venus is gathering her children and we need to serve her," the horse tells me. Her broken wing tremble in pain.

"What? Who is Venus? We? What are you talking about?" I ask in confusion.

"I'll explain later. Get on my back; I'll keep you safe!"

I stare in disbelief as the horse lowers herself to let me ride her. This feels like a weird ass dream. Horses talk. Werewolves chasing the talking horse. I am Venus's creation. Whoever Venus is.

"Get on! They're coming!" the horse snaps at me.

"You're a stranger! I don't trust you, man!" I argue, unwilling to budge.

The horse growls outloud and use her strong wing to push onto her back. I let out a terrified yelp as the horse bursts through the woods with super speed.

"What the heck! Let me down this instant! This is kidnapping!" I scream, gripping the horse's neck. We are going at such a speed that I'm terrified to let go and hit against a passing tree. I can't risk a broken bone.

"Melinda!" a familiar voice screams.

"Elise! Help!" I yell back at the vampire who is chasing us down from behind.

"Jump! I'll catch you!" Elise yells, trying to catch up with the running horse. Two werewolves start to appear around her, snapping at the horse's legs.

The horse let out a threatening snarl as she tries to get her wings to move. Her broken wing moves, making us leave the safety of the ground. Elise curses and jumps, almost catching my reached-out hand.

Elise and the two werewolves stare up in despair as the horse and I disappear above into the thick clouds.
